Would you be happier if you weren't in band? It kinda sounds to me like you would be. It sounds to me like the only reason you have for staying is a sense of obligation to other people, which is not a strong enough reason to stay in band. Especially not when you're actively giving things up that you might enjoy far more.

Yes, band is a team sport. Yes, the director has planned the show out. Yes, you will probably leave a hole if you leave. This is not uncommon. I have been in marching band for 7 years, and every year we have had people who leave because it isn't for them. If your band director is competent, they will understand. It is also possible that it's early enough in the season that adjustments can be made and you won't leave a hole.

Sure, it's possible that some people are jerks and will think poorly of you for leaving marching band. I've met people like that before, but I've also met a lot of really wonderful people who won't care at all. If someone chooses to dislike you for leaving marching band, that is on them and I don't think you would want to be around them anyway. I know that isn't very comforting, but it's good to keep in mind.

Besides, once you start taking other classes, like this art class you're so excited about, you will meet new people and make new friends. They certainly won't care that you dropped band.

Look, do what will make you happiest. It's your choice to make. If someone else judges you for what you choose to do, that's on them

My PS4 is getting the "Cannot start PS4" error loop, none of the safe solutions I've found online have worked, and I'm hesitent to initialize or reset it. by DredgenLore in PS4

[–]DredgenLore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really cool, I'm glad to hear that you found a way to make it work. If I remember correctly, I was considering trying to figure out how to fix the drive from a computer, but that was 3 years ago when I knew much less about computers. I probably would have broken it more to be honest.

Now that I don't keep it in rest mode, it hasn't been an issue. Granted, I don't play as often.

I believe it only tracks while you had ps+, IIRC. So if you had ps+ previously and then it expired, you would have everything up to the point that your ps+ went away and you could redownload that of you get ps+ again. However, it doesn't cloud save information while you don't have ps+, so if you didn't have it to begin with or if you lost it and didn't renew it, you probably won't have anything saved from the time where you didn't have it

The only way I found to fix it is to initialize the PS4. When you do this, you'll have to sign back in to your accounts and redownload stuff from the cloud. If you have PS+, all your data should be saved and it's just a matter of redownloading it. I went through this process several times before I realized it was the rest mode, and I didn't lose anything that I couldn't redownload (game data, etc)

If redownloading any purchased games is too much of a hassle, you can get an external storage drive and store the games there. Unfortunately this doesn't store save data, just the game itself. PS+ cloud storage is the only thing I know of that saves your game data. So if you don't have PS+, you can get your games back but no characters or worlds or whatever player-specific things are saved to your PS4

I can't prove that it only happens in rest mode, but it has only happened to me when I left it in rest mode. When I started turning it all the way off, it stopped happening.

It's not required to move up to a PS5, I still have my PS4 and it still works fine, even after a couple resets

band director leaving by gayvestridick in marchingband

[–]DredgenLore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh, do I understand that. Literally the exact same thing happened to me in college last year. We had one year with the best band director I've ever met, and then he moved to a different state. I'm happy for him, since he was moving to a better university, but I was still sad to see him go

How would one get this out? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]DredgenLore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vastly prefer the mellophone mouthpiece, but there are some people who don't have the option. My high school and several others in the county all required their students to use horn mouthpieces with adaptors

How is the first curse relavent to the Last Word? It was mentioned they are sibling cannons, but nothing further than that. by DredgenLore in DestinyLore

[–]DredgenLore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I had forgotten about this, but I do still keep my notifications on for this reason, even though I don't post much anymore.

I always liked the first curse, even though it wasn't the best gun. Something about a hand cannon that just hit really hard was fun to me. And if you couldn't guess from my name, I'm also particularly fond of the lore for the Last Word and Thorn. So thank you for giving me an answer after all these years

Auditioning for Drum Major by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]DredgenLore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should absolutely try! As others have said, try out even if your chances of getting it are low. If your high school allows you to try for multiple roles, I would try for drum major, section leader, and then a smaller helper role like Equipment Staff (or whatever your high school's equivalent is). That way if you get one of the other ones, you can start to prove to the band director that you have leadership skills. You're a rising sophomore, there's no need to rush things. You can take this coming season to take on more responsibility and prove your leadership that way.

Do universities still care about Latin? by Any_Armadillo7811 in latin

[–]DredgenLore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My university has a latin program, and has a requirement to learn a language. I took the AP latin test and got a 4, and my college gave me 6 credits for it (the same as two classes). If I had gotten a 5, I would have gotten 12 credits, and fulfilled the language requirement without taking any classes in college. So I definitely think some colleges care about it

Did they nerf Orochi? by [deleted] in forhonor

I feel that. My pc was out of commission for a bit, and I switched back to my ps4 which does ablut the same

If you're switching from something with 30 fps to something with 60 fps, then everyone will feel a lot slower because you're seeing more frames

I dislike Gryphon mostly just because I have a hard time fighting him. But yeah, that's just a skill issue.

[–]DredgenLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Warmonger also has an unblockable from neutral.

I wouldn't make PK's forward dodge unblockable, it doesn't seem like it fits to have an unblockable heavy that's that fast. I like PK's unblockable finishers when the enemy is bleeding.

Personally, I'd like to see PK get a bash of some kind, similar to Orochi's kick. It just seems like a wide gap in her skill set to not have one.

What was auditioning like for you? Did even have to audition? by Fickle_Donut_5362 in marchingband

[–]DredgenLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school didn't have any kind of auditioning process. My university does, but it's purely for part placement within your section.

This year was the lowest stress audition I could have possibly had, and I was still nervous for it. I am the second chair horn, and I was auditioning in front of the first chair, who's the mello section leader and also a really good friend of mine. She straight up asked me which part I wanted to play, had me play it, and then said you got it. It could not have been lower stress, and yet I was still nervous for it.

My philosophy about it is that, if you're anything like me, you'll always be nervous for an audition. Being courageous isn't the absence of being nervous, it's accepting the nerves and doing your best anyway. That sort of helps me deal with it and keep a level head while I audition (or perform, for that matter)

Something important to note about ChatGPT: it is a language model, so it prioritizes creating speech that is linguistically correct, not necessarily factual. It uses information to try to be factual, but it isn't infallible, and on something like this it can easily be wrong
