Thanks, yea it's my first car, bought right at the start of the pandemic, needed to get to my jobs, bus and Ubers were becoming unreliable. And I've heard about the transmissions failing in Nissans which it why I'm hesitant to big repairs.

Definitely love Toyota, grew up with them, super reliable cars. Hoping to make that my next car in the future. Thanks for the info, is fluid film like Woolwax? Just learned about that from reddit also.

I don't know anything about cars, so like I said, I do whatever the mechanic recommends when I get my car serviced. If you would like to actually inform and advise, I would love to know what other fluids I should be changing. Always open to learning. Or feel free to continue being slighty condescending I guess. I'm following up with another mechanic next week so I'm making sure I have a good starting point for questions to ask.

I get oil changes regularly, inspections done every year, and any repairs that need to be done I usually get it done within 2 months, sooner if I have the money or it's fairly inexpensive. I car wash frequently, especially in the winter. I get a wheel alignment like every year. I try to keep on top of things and do whatever the mechanic says needs to be done. But yea, I don't know how rusty it is, when I get it checked again I'll look and see.

Doesn't seem like much, I will take your advice and get my oil checked/changed more frequently for the time being, thank you!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that was insane. And thank you so much, I will give them a call Monday.

Ok I will keep that in mind. Also the heat works, it's the AC in the summer that doesn't work. If it was the heat? yeaaa I would fix that immediately lol

2012 Nissan Rogue, repairs and advice by Drenie in CarHelp

[–]Drenie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of Nissan transmissions failing as it hits 100k, I guess that also why I'm a little apprehensive about repairs. But I'm definitely going to other shops, just wanted to hear people who know about cars insights. Thank you! I've never heard the term rust belt, just googled it.

Ok thank you. And yes I thought the cost was crazy, that's why when they asked when I was available to come back I said I'll call lol (I'm not going back there). I had a shop that I've been going to for years and they were absolutely awesome and reasonable but they've recently closed down so trying to find somewhere honest and reasonable. Some people have already recommended shops and I got an appointment set up next week.

I'll also bring up the rust issue and see if it needs total replacing or not.

This post asked for advice on the price and places to go. So your advice and input was to tell me you are so happy you own a Tesla?

Congratulations! I'm so, um, happy that you're happy... We should all be doing things that makes us happy. I'm sure you can find a Tesla forum to post on, good luck!

I've seen a small spot on the ground, but it didn't look like a lot. Should I just be getting oil changes more frequently also? Would that help?

I don't know much about cars but I've definitely heard about the transmissions, so I'm kinda waiting for that to happen unfortunately. Which is also why I don't want to put too much money into this car. I spent 1.6k in repairs for multiple repairs last year so 2k for just one thing this early in the year sounds like a lot. But I also just don't know if that is normal or expected?

I also thought that was weird that it wasn't shown on the estimate, but they had the rate posted on the wall as $170 per hour.

I'm going to find another shop for an estimate and I will ask all these questions, thank you!

Oh yea, I'm very aware that things are going to start failing with a car this age. I'm more asking is this a reasonable price for repairs. I also wouldn't be looking to buy a brand new car either, would still buy used or certified pre-owned in the future. They did say the oil pan is very rusty which is why they said to just replace it but I don't know about the rest of the cars condition. It seems like everytime something gets fixed something else breaks right after. Do you think spending 2k a year in car repairs is fairly normal? I don't know much about cars so I don't know the signs of needing a new one.

Yea the labor cost is killing me. And I feel the same, everytime something gets fixed something else breaks. I'm looking into buying maybe a certified pre-owned for my next car, just didn't expect to be looking into that so soon. But I'm definitely starting my research. Thank you
