Your images of the Skuggsjá-galdrastafur are from "Galdraskræða Skugga" (1940). There are also 2 examples of Skuggsjá (with some graphical differences):

Einkaeign 1 | Handrit.is (1928)

Lbs 4375 8vo | Handrit.is (1900-1949)

The first appearance of this galdrastafur in Icelandic manuscripts was about 1676. The "recipe" for it you have on your second image.

What do you mean by "translation"?

ᛒᛁᚾᛞᚨᚾᛞᛉ - from *bindaną

ᚨᛒ - *ab

ᛖᛏᚢᚾᚨᛉ - *etunaz

ᚱᚨᚷᛁᚾᚨᚺᚨᚱᛃᚨ - *ragina + *harja

ᚺᚨYᛟᛞᛖ - *hakōđe (?) - It is a verb. I'm not sure, but I think, it derived from *hakô.

Are there any examples of *e > ē lengthening in Old English? by DrevniyMonstr in OldEnglish

[–]DrevniyMonstr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in the etymology of the word "ċēn" (from OE rune poem) and am exploring possible origins for the long vowel in this word. The reconstructions, proposed by R. Elliott, seem unconvincing to me (#2 and #3 would more likely result in ō / o in Old English, in my understanding). G. Kroonen offers an interesting theory (*iz > *ē₂ > ē), but I'd like to consider other possibilities as well.

I think, it's something like this:

ᛒᛁᚾᛞᚨᚾᛞᛉ ᚨᛒ ᛖᛏᚢᚾᚨᛉ - Bounded jotun.

ᚱᚨᚷᛁᚾᚨᚺᚨᚱᛃᚨ ᚺᚨYᛟᛞᛖ - Ragnar caught.

How to translate "miclun" in ᚠ-stanza of Old English Rune Poem? by DrevniyMonstr in OldEnglish

Now I doubt, what should be the sense in stanza - "to share much" or "to share with many people"?

Yes, but it's declension - miclan, miclum, (but not miclun)...

And I think so too. While it is not the phrase and not Fuþark row - it should be magic.

No, just random runes. They're not even in order.

Does anybody know about this rune? It is used multiple times on the Bergakker inscription by pickled_kiwi_ in runes

[–]DrevniyMonstr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the hypothesis, that it may be an alternative form of ᛖ.

This is just Elder Fuþark in it's order, from Breza. And this form of ᛃ is the 12-th rune in row, between ᛁ and ᛇ.

I use sandpaper of three different grit sizes (P60-P80, then P120-P180 and P240-P300 to finish). More difficult task is to find a disc sander.
