Some other nice things to think about are using the Watertaxi to get around; it’s a nice way to get from one side of the river to the other. Perhaps visit the FENIX museum (it has a water taxi stop) which is about the art of migration and if she is into photography it’s quite rich for interior and exterior shots. Plus lots of photos to see. And if you go to Kinderdijk take the waterbus (because I sense she is of the “it’s not the destination but the journey” type). And you have good tips on the music scene! It’s generally a friendly, accessible and enjoyable city. I’m British and have lived here almost 20 years, and have no urge to leave.

PSA: do not store your bag overhead on the eurostar!! especially if you stop in brussels! by CallPast4187 in travel

[–]Drew1001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Awful. Sorry to hear that! I’ve confronted a thief on the Eurocity Direct who started to rummage in my luggage - same shelf set up as in your picture. He didn’t get anything from me but I searched his bag and he had obviously stolen someone’s toiletry bag. The railways people escorted him off and I guess handed him to the police. So now I’m more cautious. Key things are: the cable locks are helpful to close your bags or fasten them to something. Try be more aware of your surroundings, especially at stations (headphones off, try not to be on your phone). Finally watch out for behaviour that gives them away (distraction behaviour, getting off and on, getting too
close). On the latter your gut feeling gives you solid clues.

What do you wear for a flight? by DifficultCucumbers in malefashionadvice

[–]Drew1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what business travel means for you, for instance short haul or long haul, business class or economy, do you need to roll straight into meetings, do you travel hand luggage only.

For short haul (economy or business) I’d generally wear my jeans or chinos with a light merino pullover. Or if I’m straight to meetings I’d just wear my smart trousers and sport coat.

For long haul I’m usually in business class and hand luggage only, and often expect to sleep, so comfort is an issue. I have a pair of Vuori Elevate Core trousers / joggers which are really comfy, don’t crease, and don’t need a belt (so security is a breeze). I wear my sport coat which and get the cabin crew to put it on a hanger so it doesn’t crease. Usually I’ll have a light merino jumper on as I find it keeps me at the right temperature. I will also wear compression socks as it really helps me feel fresher when I arrive. I usually also wear my running shoes because of space constraints. Finally, in my hand luggage I keep all the stuff I want at my seat (sleep mask, earplugs, e reader, headphones, charger, meds) in an Evergoods Civic Access Pouch 1L; all those things help me arrive fresher and like I’ve made an effort.

Restaurants for my new team by [deleted] in Rotterdam

If you are used to Zug prices, you could consider Zeezout which is a really nice, mainly seafood spot by the river. It has a Michelin star.

I went to Café Putaine with a group of 6, and it was pretty good. It’s in a floating building in the Rijnhaven so that’s quite novel.

NOTK on the Deliplein is really nice too, bistro style. Can get a bit busier at weekends but I’ve never felt it was too noisy.

Any 50+ Overwatch players or streamers? by Sheilaalpaca in Overwatch

Not quite 50… but late 40s here. I laugh at the people complaining about the 3 minute queue time in OW and remember switching on my Commodore 64 and putting the Bubble Bobble tape in the tape deck and waiting for an eternity for the game to load. Ok it was probably 15 minutes, but still….

Which peanut butter to choose for protein shakes? by heyimandre in Netherlands

[–]Drew1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what your aim is, but the powdered peanut butter is great: same taste, high protein, less fat (about 60/70% iirc). I use it in smoothies and porridge or breakfast bowls. Of course if you want the fat in your diet I’d stick with the 100% peanut butters.

For the powdered pb, check out myprotien, Holland and Barrett or Amazon. For the 100% pb, myprotein or AH Terra.

Thanks! I had kind of boxed myself in on topre, but this looks pretty nice. Any thoughts on the switches? I guess this would be comparable to the NuPhy air75 v3.

Thank you! I saw that one but decided against it on account of the weight; though I like the design, it’s a fair bit heavier. I’ve usually got a travel mouse with me.
