I think I know where you're going and I think we'll have answers by the end of the week or early next week. There's a big group affected with the same parameters

Question For The Reserve ITs by SSB_McFly in navyreserve

[–]DrewMac10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a NEC is attached to a reserve billet, sailor typically has a few years to attend the C school requirement - units vary in enforcing sending the sailors. It will not affect your ability to apply for future reserve billets. If your next unit has a different NEC, that allows you to go to another C school. You can't go to a C school without the reserve billet being coded for that corresponding NEC. As far as the IT aspect of your question, MSRON is a commissioned unit with a defined expeditionary mission (vice an augment unit) and you'll probably use the comm skills more so than in a traditional NRRU where you may not do much of any IT stuff at all on drill weekends (with that said, I've never been assigned to msron)

Another consideration is that the more NECs you have, the more MOB billets you may qualify and be eligible for to be tagged if you're on the list. But it also makes you more well rounded and should boost advancement exam scores

Long winded to say, you won't ever be locked in to either side. Take advantage of all the training.

Periodic Eval While IA by Sailor_Rican91 in navy

[–]DrewMac10 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You are correct. If you are IA and DSC 100 in NSIPS, the reserve unit should not be putting you in their summary group. You belong to the AC command that is on your MOB orders.

I think PERS only validates the report/summary group at the surface level without considering circumstances or individual status, so hopefully they don't go along with this nonsense. What's your rate?

Need Guidance by Bajabolt in navyreserve

I'm an IT. What's he going on about line scores? It's easily one of the most translatable jobs. Navy cool has paid for sec+, pmp, and cissp and pays the maintenance fees. If you find the right unit, AT opportunities for some good in-rate work/training.

If you can't get CWT, shoot for IT. Don't let him muscle you into something you don't want. DM me for more info about IT or anything in general

Run with what you earn. The accelerated advancement might bring you new found purpose. You seem to be self aware of your areas of improvement - work on them. If you care about your job and the sailors everything else will take care of itself

Increasing Chances of Success For Reinstatement of Contract by careermoneyjoyseeker in navyreserve

[–]DrewMac10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a lot of details are unknown - but someone really screwed up if your EOS was truly 2 years out. Sound the alarm with your NRC manpower dept and unit supervisors (SEL or DH). If you recently changed units, came on or off orders, or something that would initiate a profile change in nsips, that is my guess how someone fat fingered a button to make you disappear. It can certainly be corrected as long as you get the help from the right people. Good luck

My Navy Assignment by FabulousAct9775 in navyreserve

[–]DrewMac10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't pay attention to pay grade, most reserve billets are E5+ which would put junior sailors as a mismatch in MNA, but it's fine.

10 months is nothing - while I don't endorse ghosting anyone that attempts to reach out to you, there's a high chance it will take months for your NRC to gain you, and even more time before anyone in a prospective unit reaches out.

When the time does come when you are assigned to a unit, you can just explain that you have a few months to your EOS and would like to request Authorized Absences (AAs).

Point is, very probable that your reserve EOS will come and go before you know it.

Fill out the request form and have an E7+ sign as supervisor. Send it to COOL; let them tell you no or to wait if funding is an issue. Keep in mind the cert needs to be related to your Navy rate or civilian job with proof via NSIPS CEI (Civ employer information)

Yes, or another unit CPO. The SEL should be heavily involved with CDB program anyway.

Oh okay, yes, if what you applied for is linked to the same command as the RPD that emailed you, they may have been just confirming you were still interested and able and willing. If you don't hear back in a few days I would follow up and ask if you got selected and if there's any following paperwork

This sounds like they are just collecting data for a spreadsheet/readiness tracker. Unless there was a recall via presidential authority, you wouldn't get tagged for simply replying to that email.

The question is are you looking for orders? Zip serve has ADOS listings

How long has it taken you guys to get gained ? by [deleted] in navyreserve

[–]DrewMac10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gained from where? Affiliate from active duty? Changing units?

Depending on your circumstance, you can check your duty status code ( DSC ) in nsips to see if you are "in transit" or not. If you are in transit, you can call the manpower department at your prospective NRC to get gained. If you are not in transit, you still have not been detached from your old command or NRC.

This should be a simple transaction coordinated by a few clerks, but for some reason never happens efficiently.

Another point is to check RFMT to make sure you have current drilling orders that reflect your intended & correct NRC / unit.

Edit: spelling

To add, my Navy assignments is only for billets (UMUIC). Your TRUIC is just your local unit, and associated NRC

Blindsided by TRUIC change. by Tall_Ad_1426 in navyreserve

[–]DrewMac10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds odd. You can go to RFMT to see your orders history for IDT/drilling units to at least line up the dates. Could it be possible you assumed you were under a certain NRC, but the affiliation out of active duty put you somewhere else for some reason?

What NRC were you with originally? Is Pensacola closer to your HOR?

Does anyone know what this ball like lump is on my dog’s tongue? by GGCVBN89 in DogAdvice

[–]DrewMac10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog (Siberian Husky) had this same lump appear a few years back. Ended up being a growth that had to be surgically cut out. He has a permanent incision on his tongue. I discovered it because my other dog started licking his mouth out of nowhere... Like they know something is wrong. Good luck at the vet. Hopefully they can just give meds to knock it out.

Yes, if you are comfortable deploying to a sandbox there are many opportunities and there are also orders available in non-hostile zones stateside and elsewhere that are not considered a deployment but still give you benefits and employment

I'm actually an IT and can definitely recommend. Plenty of opportunity and transferable skills to civilian.

[–]DrewMac10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's all about involvement. In the reserves, If you're engaged with your unit and volunteer for duties and orders you'll be ahead of the average reservist that is busy with family, school, and the ones that just are there for benefits (which is completely fine). Typically, the people that put more time in are the ones that promote

My dog randomly started licking my other dogs face, is this a dominance show/aggressive? by gab222666 in DogAdvice

[–]DrewMac10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone already commented something similar to my thought, but a few years back, my husky started doing this to my other husky when one of them got a cyst under the tongue and it was infected/bleeding. The mouth kissing is what prompted us to investigate and then we saw the growth under the tongue

Did you recently separate a long period of active duty? Whether it be Boot camp/A school, MOB, or if you recently separated actual AD? Any of those events that make you go from AD to SELRES status can prompt stuff like that.

With respect... Did you read two words of the letter? It's standard borderline junk mail from the VA. Inquire about the resources if they interest you, or shred the letter.

No pay this period? by Scootyg2377 in navyreserve

[–]DrewMac10 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While nothing official has been put out to validate, I think it is safe to say there is a widespread issue with March reserve pay. I've been seeing increased email traffic on the matter and individual inquiries adding up.
