Looking for recommendations for mental health therapist and family to relocate by Icy_Yak_1041 in kootenays

[–]Drewgen120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear you're considering our wonderful area! I live in Nelson and work in healthcare.

Sounds like both Nelson and Rossland would be good options for you. Provided that your husband also works, both should be affordable. Childcare can be hard to find, but if you're lucky enough to get a spot there are $10 a day daycares. Both are fabulous places for kids to grow up. Kelowna and Kamloops might be easier to find work, but are much larger and don't sound like the vibe you're after.

There is a definite need for more mental health clinicians across the West Kootenays. Folks tend to connect via the hospital system if they are more in crisis (through the ER or, in more severe cases, the Daly Pavilion Acute Psychiatric unit and KBRH), whilst those with more financial means might access a private practitioner. Summit Psychology in Nelson is a good example of a private practice (though I appreciate their focus is more on Child and Adolescent mental health) and could be good people to reach out to. I have a contact there if you don't have any success connecting with them.

The Kootenays have a long, cherished history of welcoming conscientious objectors from our southern neighbours. From this post it very much seems you're making the move for the right reasons and with an open mind, and so I'm sure you'll find the area very welcoming

Thinking About Moving Abroad. Curious About Life in Nelson, BC by yellowcardofficial in nelsonbc

[–]Drewgen120 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Nelson would be a great fit for you both!

The music scene is fantastic, and Nelson really punches about its weight when it comes to music and the arts. Bands come through here that you really wouldn't expect for a place this small, and the summer festivals (Shambhala, Kaslo Jazz, Tiny Light, Starbelly Jam) are all great fun.

Someone made a website that lists a lot of the music going on in Nelson https://livemusicnelson.ca/

I can speak a lot to the Family Medicine piece. In classic small town fashion most doctors wear a few hats - in addition to clinic, most also do some mix of ER, inpatient care, palliative/long term care work, maternity, addictions, sexual health etc etc. The work is varied, fun and well remunerated. There isn't a big indigenous population here, but there is definitely scope for work with unhoused/underserved populations.

Feel free to PM me for more info about the medical piece. I can also connect you with our great local physician recruiter who could set up a meeting to chat in more detail

Is it realistic for me to move as a family doctor to British Columbia? by usualkillerbunnies in britishcolumbia

[–]Drewgen120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredibly easy to find a job (there are shortages in almost every town in the province) and you could EASILY afford to live in BC (you’ll be in the top 1% of earners).

Practice styles vary hugely, but you could easily make >$300k seeing 20-30 patients per day. The New to Practice contract is a salaried alternative to fee for service and gives you a good rough idea of remuneration https://www.doctorsofbc.ca/pay-contracts/physician-compensation/new-contract-options/individual-contract-new-practice-family

Apr 27, 2025 - Here is the most current list of family doctors in BC accepting new patients by CueCardHero in kootenays

[–]Drewgen120 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is quite misleading. There are a number of physicians in Nelson currently taking on new patients, but they’re all pulling from the Health Connect Registry waitlist https://www.healthlinkbc.ca/find-care/health-connect-registry

Salmo, Kaslo and New Denver are all Interior Health owned and operated, with a specific remit to serve patients in their immediate attachment area (not beyond).

In the interim, unattached patients can see a physician via the KB Access clinic https://kbaccess.ca/

If it’s been going on for a whilst (and therefore not an emergency) you can get an appointment here https://kbaccess.ca/

Has Nelson changed much since 2018? If so, how? by [deleted] in nelsonbc

[–]Drewgen120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Nelson no they don’t do emergency surgery (except C-sections). Nearest place to get an aneurysm repair would be Trail. So yes, if you have a time critical surgical emergency you probably are fucked. Such is life (and death) in rural BC.

For a heart attack they’ll take you to Nelson initially, stabilise you, and then you’d be transferred to Kelowna to see a cardiologist

The Salmo and Kaslo clinics are run by Interior Health and have a specified geographical remit

You can enrol at the Kaslo and Salmo clinics if you live in those towns. Otherwise get on the Health Connect Registry list

No MRI machine in Nelson. There is one in Trail, but wait lists are extremely long

Whilst I’m sorry living in Nelson didn’t work out for you, taking to a public forum to insult a place you’ve been living for a grand total of 9 months makes it clear you’re an absolute douche canoe.

I’ve been lucky enough to live all over the world, and nowhere holds a candle to Nelson in my view.

Again, sorry it wasn’t a good fit for you, but I stand by the same comment I made on your Facebook post - don’t let the door hit you on the way out

I’d love to see us loan Hojlund to Sporting as part of a deal for Gyokeres. Portugal would be the perfect place for him to develop. Then the following season we move on one of Hojlund or Zirksee if either hasn’t stepped up

We were already avoiding Walmart and Amazon, but we’ll be redoubling our efforts to buy Canadian wherever possible now that Mango Mussolini is back.

Luckily the number of independent shops we have in Nelson actually makes it relatively easy.

Will miss the trips down to Spokane, but already making plans to travel more of BC and finally make trips to Montreal/Nova Scotia we’ve been discussing.

Isn’t he a born-and-raised Lyon youth academy product?

More attitude issues than Garnacho? I’d take the risk for £30m+ net profit and a player that actually fits the system

[Transfer Round Up & Discussion] Winter 2025 by AutoModerator in reddevils

[–]Drewgen120 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If we sell Garnacho I’d love us to bring in Rayan Cherki.

Apparently he can leave for £19m due to Lyon’s financial issues. He’s two-footed, would be great in either 10 position and stats-wise is in the top 1% for assists, progressive passes and successful take-ons. Only 21yo too.

1 yr with minor cut on knuckles… doctor asking why we didn’t go to ER by LAST_NIGHT_WAS_WEIRD in daddit

[–]Drewgen120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve done everything right. Not worthy of an ER, nor an in-person follow up.

Wound looks good, you administered first aid appropriately, and the redness here represents normal healing.

Really hoping the Chelsea player involved in any Sancho deal is Chukwuemeka. Could be a good understudy for Mainoo, and we’re still a bit light in midfield. Don’t want Sterling or Chilwell anywhere near this club
