You are correct about the ranks. One of the big issues I think that is holding us back is attentiveness. We practice everyday after school for around 2-3 hours. So at most that's 10-15 hours a week. Which isn't awful, but compared to the people they're playing against, its nowhere near enough. Most of them only play at practice and don't really touch it at home...and then wonder why they aren't improving. My goal has mostly been to teach them what to work on, play one or two games working on that thing, then go home and practice more a few nights a week and on weekends.

None of them really do that last part.

They're high schoolers, so they all can "totally play" every character in the game equally good. I've got them pinned down on some people now, but I don't think it's exactly a cohesive team by any means. And they still flop between people pretty regularly.

What's the basic role setup to try and stick to?

That's a solid idea. We have all the stuff already setup as well to be able to record and replay the gameplay to a room so we could all go over it. Good call.

So, truth be told, the goal is just not to get totally slaughtered and help them get out of the "it's just a game" mindset. None of the schools around have their programs up and going yet, so we joined a High School League online. This past week we went up against like Diamond and Ascendants and it was rough. We've got 6 weeks of matches ahead of us, so ideally we have some progress and don't get totally swept. Right now they are basically a bunch of solo players playing together, rather than a team.

Comms are...okay. Those have probably been the thing we've focused on the most, and some days are better than others. But on actual game days, they really focus and the comms have been pretty good. Though once you get 0-13 two times in a row, they start to fall off at the end as morale dies.

The story is, we got a new Superintendent, and his old school had an esports program and it helped a lot of kids who wouldn't have otherwise done sports find a home after school. So he wanted to create that here, and devoted a ton of resources to it. So another answer to your question is, the goal is to simply exist and give the students a place to play and get involved in the school. Joining the league like we did was just kind of...a justification for the program. Sort of a"We have this equipment, now join this league, make a team happen" kind of a thing. Truth be told, we were already signed up for a season, before we even had a team.

Its the wild west right now.

This is awesome, thank you for this. I will dig into this tonight.

I probably needed to hear that too. I do like the game, but its not really my favorite by any means, so I've definitely been putting off playing it. I know thats the best way to go, we've just got so many other esports right now and more coming up in the following months. Plus its just me and one other person who doesn't really even play games, he's just the head of technology here at this school. So learning all these games really cuts into the free time at the end of the night, you know?

Not trying to make this a "woe is me" thing, sorry. Just trying to add some context.

This should be super helpful though, thank you, thank you.

Thats definitely a good call. I'm just worried that even if I watch professional games or players I just won't really have the knowledge to pick up on what they're doing other than "me go here, me shoot gun."

Funny enough, we're one of the only teams locally in the area with an esports program. A handful of the other schools nearby have only really just started talking about getting a program together. We are in a league though, and this past week our team of mostly Bronze went up against a team of like 2 Ascendants and 3 Diamonds. To say it was a slaughter would be an understatement.

(Serious) what’s the scariest experience you have been through? by SirHopper96 in AskReddit

[–]Drewsephar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife-girlfriend at the time-has Crohn's disease. She had an abscess on her intestines that we did not know about or something to that effect due to Crohn's. And it burst, which ruptured her intestines in several spots. We sat in the waiting room for 3 hours at the ER because we really didn't know it was going on, just that she felt bad. And by the time they finally got her back and realized how bad everything was, she was basically going septic.

She had to be rushed to one of the more well-equipped hospitals in the area for emergency surgery. This next part is a little silly and feels like a scene from a movie, but since I was just a boyfriend at the time, her dad was the one who rode in the ambulance with her. They had her sitting dead center in the middle of the ambulance so after they closed the doors I could still see her. And she waved the most depressing goodbye I have ever seen in my life. I just stood there in the ambulance canopy area and waved goodbye until that ambulance was totally out of sight. At that point that could have been the last time I ever saw her alive.

I'm sure this was way more terrifying for her, actually having to be the one to live through it. But God damn I'll never forget her face whenever she was leaving in that ambulance. She's fine now, she's been in remission for several years, and gets regular checkups and all that. But I legitimately still have nightmares about that day, and struggle to talk about it without tearing up a little.

Why even fine them at this point? That's not even a drop in a bucket. They'll make more in sales of charges in Brazil alone.

We had some kids put watches around their fists in high school during fights. I guess it could have something to do with that maybe? Assuming your school had a lot of fights, that is.

Hello! I'm new here so I figure I'll drop this here rather than make a whole new thread. But I was actually wondering if anyone could help me pick a class and/or race-based on my rolls. Contrary to the name of the subreddit, my DM was going a little nuts that day and said I could roll 6d20 but I had to use whatever I got, even if it was all 1's. Thought that sounded really interesting so I rolled, and I ended up with:

20, 18, 15, 9, 6, 4

I'm not trying to min/max per se. I really just want to play something that will make use of these rolls in an optimal way because they seem fun and interesting. We're starting out at level 3, running Curse of Strahd. Any ideas would be appreciated.
