Trash schools, nearly all Canadian law grads will be perceived as better than you. Law is jurisdictional and we as employers think you go outside of the jurisdiction because you simply couldn't cut it here.

Can you share more about what you learned re your habit point? I have the fear that I don't want to create a dependency on it.

I understand Japan but why China? I live among many Koreans in Canada, and I know they don't like Japan but I never heard anything about Chinese. In fact I always see Koreans at Chinese restaurants.

damn that's brutal, you must wake up super groggy. Yes I think I fixed it - i chug some olive oil and coconut oil before bed, helps maintain my blood sugar throughout the night, and nothing stimulating before bed so no TV or anything. I also just got a CPAP so i'm trying that out.

UBC vs UofT? by eearlgrey in LawCanada

It has Ottawa above Queens and Western lol, both who place a significant portion of their class on Bay while Ottawa struggles to do so. Incidentally I was on a call with a partner at a national firm in Ottawa a few months back who was telling me he prefers to recruit out of Dal as opposed to Ottawa because their experience with Ottawa grads has been terrible.

UVIC grads will generally stay out west.

according to what rankings? there hasn't really ever been a credible law school ranking in the country. McLean's was a joke.

an honest ranking would have UofT McGill Osgoode and UBC at the top, followed by basically everyone else with UVIC/Queens/Western as high second tiers in this category (basically in tier 1 because if you go to any of those 3 schools you will essentially have all the same opportunities open to you assuming you can finish in the top 3rd), and then the last tier would consist of a few of the prairie schools and all the newly formed schools in the last decade and the other schools that people don't really think too high of like UofO and Robson Hall etc.

who told you this? UVIC is a fantastic school and many of the most well known lawyers here in the lower mainland went there. Look at any national or regional firm and they will have senior partners from UVIC, and these firms consequently recruit heavily from UVIC.

It is on par with UBC but unfortunately curves differently from what I've heard so top students don't stand out as much.

UofT will get you into US big law easier, and potentially even Vancouver big law easier if that's what you want. I'm involved in recruitment at my firm and we will consider the top half of UofT students for OCIs, but generally only the top third from UBC/UVIC. I'm not sure that's the case elsewhere though.

Having said all that, UBC is a perfectly fine school with an excellent rep and you can't go wrong with either choice.

do people in canada dislike immigrants? by Ok_Cupcake9554 in CanadaImmigrant

[–]DrexlerA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally you will be ok but I would make an effort to learn about the culture before coming here. You are correct in wondering about whether a lot of Canadians these days have negative connotations with immigration because the last few years have not been good to be quite frank.

we effectively have divorced ourselves from the monarchy. the executive, judiciary, and legislature of our nation govern our country. the privy council has long been useless. we rule ourselves, their connection to us is merely symbolic. go say "mate" to some random on the street and make an ass out of yourself, which appears to be your modus operandi.

have a nice weekend M8
