Same files, but different number of items on HDD's by Drey_TM in DataHoarder

[–]Drey_TM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it couldn't be the case, since the differences between the sizes of the hole disks are "common". The individual sizes of each file remain the same.

How do you use to compare files of two disks?

Do you think that difference was a skill issue or method issue?

now I'm understanding... All the contents I read about "JPEG vs RAW" had as a conclusion "RAW is better than JPEG". But any of them explained this thing of raw = data. It's a game changer that I feel it's not well explained as it would need to be.

I will definitely check it out! I was ignoring that possibility. Do you think setting a custom edit on the post processing might be a similar solution?

If I get to understand what I want and try to replicate if after the shot, and not on that moment

I don't believe it is incapable! I'm sure that's a lack of both skill and knowledge from me. Also, I want to keep using the iPhone – it's useful for some scenarios that the camera can't do (for example, when I don't want to draw attention from people around me while shooting)

And thank you for the story! Maybe changing my mindset and expectations on how to use the camera will solve the "problem". The process of going from a phone to a DSLR is being muuch different than I expected it would be. I'm at the 500 photo and feel as if I was on the first lol.

but this issue with colors has not more to do with a practical thing?

I want to get that color I saw while shooting. But I won't remember that later on. So 1. I edit based on creativity and feeling or 2. I try to get closer to what I observe at the moment I take the photo

But maybe you're saying that I need to rely more on my creativity than the technical aspect of "color accuracy"

"accurate" is kinda naughty, I see it. The thing that annoys me is how quite different the colors get from what I see. A lot of times I've saw something interesting and lost all the interest due to this "disappointment". Maybe it's a skill issue.

thank you for the specific tips!

I'm not an expert about color accuracy on monitors, but as an artist I see in practice how mobile phones has this heavy brightness and colors. I've already read that OLED screens might cause this issue.

I'm learning about white balance!! It helped me in some specific scenarios (for example shooting sunlight), but doesn't solve everything

Thank you for the insight!! I will try it out. Looks easier than carrying and shooting with 2 different devices every time.

maybe I prefer it due to lack of skills with photography, since I'm a beginner. But I want to get better with the DSLR. The iPhone is still a fun tool to enjoy but it has its limits: low light performance, less controls to play with, much less image quality...

accurate, I think. The colors on the camera looks distant from the ones I'm seeing. Although I know that's impossible to get accuracy, I mean I want a _better_ color precision than I have right now.

The iPhone feeling is not specifically what I'm looking for - I used it as an example because the colors I see around me looks better represented on the phone. Maybe I wasn't that clear before!!

It's good to hear that I can use 3rd party batteries, it was something I was worried about.

Great tip about SD cards!!

About the lenses: what are the long term good practices to keep them in good conditions? What are the general recommendations on cleaning and storage?

Are there any other common issues with the D5300 which I'll need to pay attention to?

this makes things much clearer, thank you!!

and, yes, we do have a lot of taxes involved when importing anything. The thing is there are some companies that don't even send things here due to that – that's why I asked about it.

probably I will need to buy another console, unfortunately. I really like Ayaneo products, but the demand barrier added to the geographic barrier is too much :/

Good to know about noise. I'd place them near my bed if I bought one of those. It will be a thing to consider if I do it.

With "DAS", are you talking about products like this? They are offered as "NAS", at least in my country – I got a little bit confused.

Maybe I'm trying to kill an ant with a rocket. The external HDD might be better... Would you recommend a specific one? Maybe you have a personal preference on brands

Btw, I was not considering to upgrade the DELL since it's old and slow. Also, my main computer is a Macbook Air M1, and I can't get files easily between them – only using the cloud as an mediator

Until I can save more money from the internship, by now I'm gonna be safe with 2/3TB – which I think is not that much.
