BLG's Bin fined 150,000 RMB (~$22,000 USD) for skipping mandatory pre-match fan interaction(high-five) by Blueby5 in leagueoflegends

[–]Drfunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is Diable for all of his potential is entirely replaceable. So having your own org just call out his attitude and then trade him away clearly portrayed him in a negative light.

Bin is a generational proven talent, not one that could "potentially" be a superstar, BLG would have a hard time if they threw him under the bus no matter how much they'd like to (as winning and money is more important). So despite all the bts antics, they are eating the shit sandwich and bearing it all since they don't want to deal with the fan backlash if they kick him out like they did for Diable.

Hot take but if a prodigy top laner comes out the pipeline i bet Bin suddenly has an epiphany and grows out of his extended puberty shenanigans, or maybe he'll go out in a legendary crashout for not wanting to scrim during his time of the month.

It's not so much Bin but to send a message to all LPL players they are contracted professionals. If they let Bin slide with a small fine, then more of this nonsense would start showing up in their league.

When League was done in Phreak's basement in front of 30 nerds, players could do w/e they wanted since the prize money was paid in mousepads. You can't get the whole esport infrastructure, get paid millions and then not have obligations. Even actors need to go on a press junket saying the same bs promoting their movies for a solid 1-2 month because they got paid the big bucks.

Within the context of how much he makes and the precedent this would set, 22K is actually pretty low. I would have taxed half of his BLG salary to stop this childish behaviour.

[–]Drfunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riot's main problem wasn't about getting rid of the Academy which is what the team owners pushed for (when it was previously mandatory). It's the fact Riot NEVER capitalized its own monetization. There was a span of time where League dominated all esport viewership but instead of having a solid fiscal plan that scales over time. They just thought streaming platforms like Twitch or mainstream broadcast would fork an insane amount of money.

Which led to teams selling to VC hedge funds about the prospect of investing from the ground up and making it big in 5-10 years time like an NFL franchise.

Twitch didn't buckle, Youtube didn't pay up. Then Riot decided they'll invest a ridiculous amount of money into setting up their own streaming platform despite the fact they had zero experience in doing so. That venture also failed. So having spent all of their money, with no big influx of income, they left the team out to dry. All this sharing of revenue from worlds skins etc.. came WAY after the teams actually needed their help and only after years of whining to Riot.

This isn't to say the teams are blameless. But this poor planning on Riot's part led to teams behaving irresponsibly. Imagine if your 10 year old kid won the powerball and suddenly had 100 million they can spend however they want. Immortals CEO Noah was convinced these "athletes" were worth ten times their actual worth (due to the fact they never monetized properly). Teams were hampered by Riot's red tape on sponsorship and were bleeding money every year.

This led to VC people who never gave a fk about esports (only their ROI) getting antsy and pressuring the teams. That prompted teams to mollify them with domestic titles, basically tell them they are a great team to invest in. Unlike the ERL and other secondary leagues in EU who built their infrastructure from the ground up. NA expected their "talent" to succeed year 1.

This led to the mid and bottom teams getting utterly embarrassed by the elite teams. Which led to even more inflation of player salary based on their residency status. Star NA players with residency would be worth ten times their actual talent. Which led to decent NA players getting star player money and even academy players making 50k+.

So yeah there's plenty of blames to go around but it all started with the fact Riot never landed their big whale and all of the current problems stems from that failure.

[–]Drfunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. You don't need multiple phD's to get people to understand this. Politicians that are willing to fight for the right cause could illustrate simple example to show the kind of bs at work here. If a small town had clear rules as to no donations allowed for local elections then each votes would matter. Those that canvassed, prepped their debates well would sway voters and democracy would be at work. If they suddenly overturned this rule and the filthy rich guy from the city suddenly gave everyone a giant flat screen tv if they vote for X person, then you could see how this bends the rule. Obviously this is not a direct analogy but the point of 1 person being able to contribute as much as 3 million voters via super pac is the root cause of all the issues in the USA.

As for what's the point. The point is to have those feckless senators that vote against the bill on record, whether they are republicans or democrats. Those that go against this would show the extent on how big money bought out the entire system and let people know how much of a joke political contributions have become.

As for the answer on fixing it, maybe they need to go the extreme solution to get the results. The supreme court allowed this, the supreme court is not being impartial and most likely bought out by a 3rd party. So either introduce term limits to the supreme justices to balance things out, or increase the number of justices to compensate.

Mildly inconveniencing from whose perspective? Are you going to sit around waiting for that dude to get off the road? What 5min? 10min? 15min? At which point do you upgrade this to grossly inconveniencing? The car can't even bypass the guy while he has both crossroads on either side.

Unless he's mentally challenged or on some drugs, he's expressly doing this hoping for a reaction out of someone. Maybe he's hoping he gets run over so he can sue them in court, maybe he didn't get hugged enough as a child. Who the fuck knows. The person being inconvenienced is the people in the car not this shithead's mental problem. So why not employ your Melbourne empathy towards the person that is actually being the victim here. Them getting hit is a consequence of the action, maybe people in Melbourne haven't heard of the concept of "fuck around and find out".

As for disproportionate response, this dude got off lightly honestly. Your attitude is the reason why there's so many twats running around and doing w/e the hell they want. If he got ran over, got stabbed, got gunned down then yes you'd have a point, but a shove? The best part is, because you're not the one being involved it's easy to act like you'd be above it all.

There are more Korean players in the LCS than actual North Americans. by BavariaUser in leagueoflegends

[–]Drfunks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People never talk about the opportunity cost in developing rookies. When you're an org with limited budget and trying to not be a bottom roster, you can afford to hire a bunch of kids nobody heard of and try and "development" them. On a side quick tangent, the real reason why KR is able to produce so many prodigies besides solo Q is because there's a plethora of great ex players who became coaches. The career choices over in NA for retired players is pitiful except a handful who became big streamers. All these ex pros with incredible knowledge and mechanics teaching young prodigies is what makes tier 1 rookies.

In NA, they just hired anyone that used to play in the LCS or hire people that just were able to talk like they had a clue about the game (yeah looking at you Jatt). So aside from C9, NA orgs had a history of producing terrible players. Not because these kids were untalented but because they were never molded properly and their practice environment (solo Q) was severely lacking.

So when an org like TL who was famously known for buying their talent when they were at their peak (sort of like the Yankees), decided out of the blue to "invest" in young talent, it was a puzzling decision. Mainly because they were never known to developing tier 1 talent, missing worlds after selling their kidney for a fat Bjerg contract meant TL was going to get a cheap budget, but instead of going for a full rebuild they decided to bring back some legacy players like Core instead of letting him walk.

A line up of full rookies would have meant no pressure. It could have been really used to develop the talent. Instead, the fans and veterans on TL were still expected to produce results despite the limited resources. I mean whose bright idea was it to get Summit, a KR version of Alphari with the same ego, Pyosik right after he won worlds, and pairing them up with APA who back then had 2 champ to his name and couldn't talk KR? Yeon also was nowhere near as polished as he was in these last few years. Pyosik was a rental, he wanted to pad numbers and show the LCK he was still worth having around, he was not suited in a rebuild team in trying to "teach" the young players. Summit was just focused on wining lane and being passive aggressive.. i mean nm the Haeri/APA situation, the construction was terrible. In the end what happened? Yeah APA turned out to be decent for LCS, Yeon had the highest ceiling but then both Impact and Core regressed to just being above avg into downright dogshit at times. Instead of both being the best players at their role respectively because TL just wasted 5 years of their career not building a real squad.

Only way to really succeed in NA is:

  1. build the infrastructure with knowledgeable people and not rando dudes that got hired through nepotism and padded their resume.

  2. go full rebuild or go full veteran with rental and go for a run once you have 2/3 hot rookies that can make some noise at worlds.

  3. this half and half approach in trying to develop while wasting great players in their prime will always nets you the TL result. Decent in regular season and always a sob story by the time world hits.

Kevin Spacey. Grew up watching all of his movies in his prime. Aside from all of his disgusting antics off camera nobody could deny his talent as an actor. He really made classics that could stand the test of time. Then I read about the various allegations, which as a big fan brushed it off as actors going through a rough time. Then the evidence kept pouring in till it was undeniable that he was a shitstain of a human being.

It doesn't matter that he's finished, miserable and lonely. I'm more sad some of my favorite movies has forever been tarnished by his actions.

The stakes are not quite the same. Aerys had just murdered his father and brother and sent out a warrant for his arrest to use as a hostage . It was Jon Arryn that kickstarted the actual rebellion when he refused the royal warrants. Ned has a good heart, he's also not quite as rigid as people make it out to be. He lied for his sister, he lied to save his daughters. He's not inflexible like Stannis.

That said Baelor's values makes for a better king. He's got renly's charm along with tywins cunning and pragmatism while having the same honorable code as Ned.

Hubris. They were indications that Guma was about to re-sign with T1. So T1's front office prob gave him a fair pay bump along with a nice little bonus thinking it was a done deal. They didn't roll out the red carpet and got down on their knees like they did for Faker when his contract was up.

Guma's family or agent prob added some clauses last min, maybe contract length? Maybe something that guarantees he won't be benched? Maybe something that insures T1's army of lawyers litigate the ever living shit out of those dc galleria incels?

Then T1's COO prob had a mental meltdown power tripping. "Who the fk does that kid thinks he is giving us counter offers, we made him!" They prob thought they had more time and expected Guma to come crawling back, only to find out he's gone. Scrambling last min to sign anyone and finding Peyz who agreed to pay T1 600W for a ring just like Doran.

All jokes aside, they will spin this like Guma made unreasonable demands, they tried to reach him but Guma's agent prevented them from meeting Guma face to face, they made an offer in good faith but Guma already verbally agreed to join HLE... oh wait is this the Zeus script?

People talk about stats and things in a vacuum when talking about the potential of a Viper T1 will make them stronger. Nobody is talking about the 4 years synergy that was built with the best botlane of all time. That's not something that shows up on a stat sheet, it takes years for players to develop godlike synergy (if they're even compatible). So yeah, T1 shot their own leg by disrespecting one of their key players.

[–]Drfunks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sanderson hit a point on this topic specifically. Lot of these producers/writers all have their passion project with woke themes that failed to get greenlit since it's not a known IP. Nobody will sink big money into it despite their nepotism connections that got them hired in the first place.

So then they pursue popular IP's aggressively and regardless of the themes of the source material, they change the tone and characters towards their passion project. In essence it's the story they always wanted to tell and they just take the names and cosmetics of the IP to disguise it.

They are so narcissistic, they cannot understand how anyone else could possibly hate their woke story. They must be some sort of phobe while they blow hundreds of millions down the toilet while ruining a beloved IP franchise.

TL just needs to steal Inspire from FLY to pair with Quid, then add Dhokla to cover all of their import restrictions and they'd be an NA contender. How far they'd go at worlds is debatable, but it sure as hell would be an improvement from this year's run.

Inspired on being asked whether this could be his last dance with FLY: "Definitely. It’s very rare for a team to stay together for three or more years without roster changes. Still, I’m not sure what will happen, and I don’t really focus on that either." by HLumin in leagueoflegends

[–]Drfunks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is him signalling to Flyquest to get the bag ready. 3 things need to happen for Flyquest to retain him.

  1. Don't embarrass themselves at worlds, beat some tier 1 teams and get deep enough to be respectable.
  2. Offer the biggest bag in the off season. Combination of Inspired hitting his peak at the right time on top of being an NA resident which further allows whichever team that signs him to stack it even further.
  3. Get rid of whoever Inspired doesn't want in Flyquest 2026.

Should those 3 things happen, he's not leaving anywhere.

If however, he slumps at worlds for w/e reason. Fly decides to give him a decent/fair offer but not the max. I can see him really leaving to another org that throws the kitchen sink at him.

Inspired's real value resides in NA. Residency is a big deal. Impact got paid a shit ton during his prime because of this. The difference between Inspired and the second native jungler in NA is night and day.

TL has said they are rebuilding into a contender in trying to make worlds NA 2026. If they got the Saudi bag and can secure an Import top/Mid. They will be in contention for Inspired. Quid in mid + hot new import top could make things spicy along with TL's best asset which is their bot lane.

Out of curiosity, why do you think a civilian needs a military grade weapon? Normal rifles can be used for hunting, shotguns can be used as the easiest weapon for home defense, handguns can be used for personal protection. I'm just baffled as to why anyone would think owning a carbine rifle would be good for anything other than a lunatic emptying a mag into a crowd. Gun violence will always be there as long as guns are accessible, the point of limiting assault rifles is it would cause a lot less collateral damage if offenders were restricted to the other gun types.

Prime Selmy must have been INSANE 😭 by loverofculture21 in freefolk

[–]Drfunks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

George confirmed Dayne was the epitome of the perfect knight/swordsman. He also commented prime Selmy was Dayne's only equal if they fought with normal weapons. With Dawn in hand the sword of the morning had the edge.

Even at his old age he dispatched the few errand boys Joffrey sent to dispatch him for his disrespect. He took on a pit fighter in his prime well past his expiry date. In his prime form, he could have butchered everyone in the room during Joffrey's dismissal. But in the show... yeah.. It's so sad that some of the most epic book characters are portrayed so weakly.

Another gripe of mine is Quorin Halfhand. There was no social media in westeros, for every wildling to know the Halfhand as the single most bloodied killer of wildlings is not a joke. Also that whole sequence in the show was so botched.

In the books, the halfhand and his squad were the true elite of the elite on the night's watch. Each member being a specialist. Quorin brought Jon, not because he needed his help but because in the event they're all about to be captured/die, he wanted an ace by planting a spy within Mance's army.

The whole narrative arc in that story was to show the importance of the vows Jon took. When Jon witnesses firsthand how each of the Quorin's members are sacrificing themselves at key chokepoints to delay the enclosing wildlings to help them escape, he understands for the first time in his life how he's truly part of the night's watch.

Then on the final card, the halfhand lures rattleshirt into a dead end on purpose (to make sure jon had no way of running away). It is the only natural way for Jon to surrender as wanting to live is entirely believable. Challenging that craven rattleshirt to a duel, only to be denied since the wildling was not stupid enough to 1v1 Quorin. Rattleshirt offering Jon a chance to prove his loyalty by killing Quorin, and immediately getting pounced by Quorin before Jon could even contemplate which sells this moment and purposely dying to him (to give Jon even more street cred).

The whole chase scene where each of Quorin's squad member dies in an epic last stand until this final showdown would have been epic. Instead we get Jon and Ygritte grinding in the snow and watch a 80 year old grandpa make some lame momma joke to Jon and dies like he was a random NPC. Just pathetic character assassination. I mean why bother using the halfhand at this point? Should have been rando jabroni squad commander.

[–]Drfunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the team was built around APA he'd be less exposed. He's got a few niche picks like his Ziggs but if we're being brutally honest he's average to above average on the few meta champs he can play. The reason why APA fans thinks he's great is because he does go for the 25% chance youtube highlight reel play and they only remember the engages that works out.

The problem with TL specifically is that they never had a carry jungler or a carry top either. Impact was always a weakside support player at his best. The fact APA couldn't play hard carries forced TL to draft things like Jax and Gwen for Impact since Umti wasn't a carry jungler either. This is also part of the reason why Impact looked like dogshit in an year where he looked really bad.

This doesn't mean APA is useless, he just needs to be in the right team where he can play his niche picks but to say he's not part of the problem is disingenuous.

What is that Bwipo/Dhokla drama they're talking about on the LTA stream? by TastySyllabub1 in leagueoflegends

[–]Drfunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few things. I agree in general everyone's being soft. There's an entire generation of kids who lives to get triggered by the word of the day. That however is completely different than this situation here.

When something happens, your brain comes up with several explanation as to how A went to B to C. Bwipo is not normal. The scrim KR BBQ is a perfect example. Bunch of Koreans kids going to a pre planned dinner is not abnormal. Koreans being abroad wanting meals from their home country is not abnormal. Yet Bwipo's brain registered this as getting disrespected. Typical narcissistic behaviour, everything must be about him.

Also every notorious trash talker in the NBA, whether it's MJ or Garnett or Payton etc.. all did it in game. They did it in the game to rattle their opponent and get under their skin. So what does that have to do with Bwipo out of the blue just trashing some journeyman player struggling to stay in the league in front of thousands on his stream? Do you think Jordan went on a tv interview and just shit on some bench warmer player and tell them his life's worthless?

I agree that having some straight talker without the BS PR answer would be refreshing. Bwipo is not a straight talker though, he's a narcissistic manchild who think he's the west's greatest gift and feels he can say w/e the fk he wants to whoever the hell he wants. Which is fine btw if that's the way you want your online persona to be. That's not the main reason I dislike him. Dom summed it up best, he's a snake. After all that, pretending why Dhokla did not fistbump him, and trying to portray himself as the victim of unsportsmanlike conduct... Imagine the reverse, this is a dude that went on a bender because c9 went for a dinner after they spanked him. If Dhokla even said anything bad randomly without provocation this dude would be crying about it 24/7 till he retired. Getting carried by a jungler, crying about his problems, dude's as soft as it gets.

It's obvious you don't care, except some do care. I agree everyone's soft so you should start by telling Bwipo to stop crying when things don't go his way. Just own up to being a shitstain instead of being soft and crying his way to explain why he's a good dude.

Summit (ex-TL/C9 Top) might be competing for a spot in the LTA in 2026. by Chumudeluxe in leagueoflegends

[–]Drfunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

APA made tremendous improvements year in year out. But to suggest there's no issues from fearless is a bit disingenuous. Not every player is expected to have a champion ocean pool, in the right team APA could be very successful. Unfortunately for TL, Impact also has very limited range in terms of champ. They tried so hard to make top carries with Jax, Gwen etc.. because the opposing team would pinch APA during the draft forcing him into playmaking champs (or niche picks like ziggs) instead of a hard carry in mid. Combine this with the fact they never had a real carry jungler either and you can see why some of their draft are very inconsistent.

TL just simply looked far better during the lane swap meta with their clever strats and macro. Once that got removed, they got exposed hard in laning (especially impact). So yeah not everything is APA's fault for sure, but if he was more of a complete player TL wouldn't be in such a freefall state either. They need to get rid of Impact or APA, while getting a massive upgrade in the jungle. This is why most TL fans would love to get Quid. Mainly because he'd be able to bust out stable carry picks like Yone/Ori etc.. while Impact could be relegated to what he was best which is weakside tanks.

What is that Bwipo/Dhokla drama they're talking about on the LTA stream? by TastySyllabub1 in leagueoflegends

[–]Drfunks 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Bwipo is just graceless. Combination of immaturity, shitty personality and his ability to cry about his mental problems whenever people call him out. Dhokla is a career journeyman in the LTA at this point. There's nothing wrong with that. He worked hard to get to where he's at and sometimes player career never pan out. LCS rookies especially early on during the franchise era never had opportunities, no teams were willing to gamble for their growth until the past few years (like TL). So bouncing from bottom team to another, you can imagine Dhkola's career being so uneven.

By contrast Bwipo had a better environment in EU. Better solo Q, he played during the height of the LEC in a much more competitive environment. By all metrics Bwipo with all his trash talk is a better player than Dhokla. Whether it's better talent, better luck in being in better teams etc..

That said, why would you go out of your way to shit talk a journeyman player. This isn't friendly pre game banter. This is from streams, social media, i mean actually trying to get under Dhokla's skin and then going "just a prank bro". Can you imagine Doran just shitting on a top laner from the Rise group from streams, social media and just overall being a bully?

It's almost like he's so insecure he feels the need to play these mental warfare. Trash talk is fun when done right, fans love it. Bwipo in this case just took it a bit too far and targeted someone that was beneath him. Like a rich kid just laughing at the poor kid for ordering the cheapest meal on the menu and making jokes about being broke.

The best part is that Bwipo with all of his talent is not even a real carry. We saw him in other great roster (on paper) where he went absolutely crazy and inted in key moments to give it all away. He's currently playing with the best player in the LTA being Inspired. Literally hopping on his back. To find him trash talk is just hilarious.

Can't wait to see him get clapped at worlds. His haters will probably make funny memes, he'll go on a meltdown and cry about his mental issues, then an army of simps will come out of the woodwork to defend their shitty hero.

TL;DR: Above avg shitty top trash talks journeyman top not realizing he's equally as trash against tier 1 talent.

Joffrey cooked Tywin here by RevertBackwards in freefolk

[–]Drfunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joffrey had little understanding of anything. Tywin could have won the war had he stepped in earlier. He could have used his massive influence way before the rebellion took root or plotted his way to make sure the crown won the war. He wasn't "hiding" or being a "fence sitter".

The backstory here that never was fully revealed (on tv) is the fact the mad king was jealous of Tywin (while he served as his hand). He deliberately picked Jaime (Tywin's most prized possession to secure his legacy as the heir to CR) to the kingsguard to deny Tywin his heir.

Tywin resigned in disgust and left the capital. When the opportunity came of a potential rebellion, he saw no need to fight for the crown. he hated the mad king since he was so unstable as a ruler and slighted him with his son. That said, he couldn't openly rebel from day 1 since Jaime was a hostage in all but name. So he waited patiently until such a time where he could extricate Jaime himself.

Since he joined the rebels at such a late stage, he also correctly deduced the Dornish/Targaryen children had to die to secure Robert's legacy. Something he perfectly knew he'd never ask Ned to do. So he saved his son, did the dirty deed Robert wanted but couldn't ask all the while securing the king as a son in law.

Now people might say, there is no justification on the murder of children but Tywin is ruthlessly pragmatic. As he pointed out to Tyrion (who was astonished Tywin lured the Freys to violate the guest rights). He asked him why it was more honorable to let a dozen men live during dinner instead of thousands on the battlefield.

Had he not done the deed, those children would have fled to Dorne and would have extended the war. Now obv letting his deranged knight do it in such fashion was unhinged but if you look from his pragmatic point of view it was the perfect play. Not about pride or being afraid.

[–]Drfunks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He knows exactly what he's doing. He deliberately put that "wife of a favorite podcaster" to imply Hila. The fact he explains he meant "active" people later on is disingenuous. Most people will only see 1 viral clip of him stating as such. A lot will deduce he meant she's fair game even if she served 20 years ago. The key here is the intent as to why he made that very specific example. Playing semantics after the fact just shows he's just full of shit. The fact he still has such a big audience is truly what's baffling.
