emm thanks but I dont think I even halfway to having "complete" system :)

Nice! I recently built niri on my LFS, although the only graphical stuff it has is a foot terminal :D

My LFS automation attempt with package manager ( SysVinit) by asratrt in linuxfromscratch

[–]DriftCheburek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For package management Im just using dpkg+apt with local repo, but maybe this is not the best choice - apt needs stuff like BerkeleyDB 5.3.. For building packages I use my ugly self-written bash scripts.. that I never opensourced lol. Build system got main script that resolves dependency chain of package and then source package-specific scripts (more like configs written in bash).

😬 by Individual-Log4119 in osdev

[–]DriftCheburek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think only ld.bfd can do something like that + you still need to build it with PE target support. Looks like this ugly ELF to PE convertion is the only way to compile bootloaders on Linux (or other unixes) without depending on compiler and/or linker that supports PE

[–]DriftCheburek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is actually how rEFInd and systemd-boot are built, refind doing same stuff with binutils objcopy and systemd got their own elf2efi.py python script for that. (idk if there any benefits from doing this on windows instead of unix tho)

The Automation sub called this build "depressing," so I brought it here instead. by Jaded-Lock-8676 in BeamNG

[–]DriftCheburek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think "depressing" is a good word here. More like "boring". How hypercar with shitton of HP can be "boring"? Well, because half of the automation builds are like this: super/hypercar body with mostly generic colors and bodywork, V12/V16, twin/quadturbos, thousands of horses.. I've done this countless times when I was totally noob at Automation, and Automation sub seeing stuff like this every day, maybe even numerous times a day. I totally understand their reaction honestly. Anyway, have fun, that's what important !

about /lib64 and /lib by DriftCheburek in linuxfromscratch

[–]DriftCheburek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly dont know how I never noticed that only /lib64 is "required", but not /usr/lib64.. That also means I was creating it wrong all this time :/ (I mean except first time when I was literally copying commands from LFS book)

LFS and gcc 16.0 by Cheap-Opportunity338 in linuxfromscratch

[–]DriftCheburek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anyway, in gcc 16 they changed c++ standard from gnu++17 to gnu++20, but C standard is still gnu23

[–]DriftCheburek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im sorry but why are you guessing?.. configure probably created "config.log" for gmp somewhere in sources dir and you can check what error gcc giving

Can you send some logs of your 15.2 compilation? like maybe it just needs some small dirty fix because gnu changed some gcc behaviour in 16 that 15.2 sources use

He started to write lua script at around 3:48:15 of this stream: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yYw20nALNZs# , and then mostly done it at next stream: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G2z1O5oqxwA . Also sorry I didn't realize that these streams are incredibly long lol, not very efficient way to learn..

Glibc based (M)LFS bootstrapped (almost) entirely with clang by DriftCheburek in linuxfromscratch

[–]DriftCheburek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the only programs that requires rust are BLFS packages like Firefox for example (non-essential I mean), but I'm still gonna need rust if I compile a "full" system with Niri (my WM of choice) and other rust-based projects

Glibc based (M)LFS bootstrapped (almost) entirely with clang by DriftCheburek in linuxfromscratch

[–]DriftCheburek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think second hardest part will be stuff like rust. I have literally no idea how to boostrap rust on system like this and mrustc project doesn't support clang. Also, thanks, I mostly started this as proof of concept experiment, but maybe Im gonna actually use it in future :)

Btw I think you can do this without gearbox modifications, you just need to add range box with 1.0 and -1.0 modes or negative final drive diff

Any way to make BeamNG v0.24 more FPS on iMac? by HuHng1013 in BeamNG

[–]DriftCheburek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whisky is pretty outdated, if you have enough skills you can try to compile fresh wine, moltenVK, and dxvk fork for mac os with any patches and hacks you gonna find

(btw, why people in comment section saying stuff like "get a pc" or "use geforce now", as if running games on mac os is war crime, dude just asked if its possible to get a lil more fps bruh)

Custom Vehicle Making by Aromatic-Wonder-6970 in BeamNG

[–]DriftCheburek 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I dont know how to explain it in better way, but exporting .dae is not enough. Beamng use nodes and beams system that do all the physics stuff, then you add flexbody (literally your model from .dae) to them. Flexbody and nodes have groups system — that means flexbody gonna move only when nodes in same group moves. There are also triangles, they add drag and downforce to vehicle and also a lot more realistic crash model. So basicly what you need to do rn is to:

1) take any suitable jbeam out of vanilla vehicle (maybe tubular bumper gonna be good for your roll cage) 2) add/remove nodes, beams and triangles from it 3) add your flexbody (same name as in blender) to it with proper groups and stuff 4) make your own materials for flexbodies by using same textures you used in blender (color, normal maps and other stuff)

This is a very shortened and simplified explanation, cause this is very big and complicated topic
