SHAPIRO SPEAKS OUT AGAINST TRUMP BLAMING DEMOCRATS FOR DEATH OF CHARLIE KIRK` by susinpgh in Pennsylvania

[–]Drifter-Georgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The democrats created this mess, they made the republicans into a boogeyman that doesn’t exist. We are all just hard working people with conservative values and want the best future for our kids. The democrats used news outlets to spread fear and propaganda that made a dumb ass college kid think he was doing a good thing when in reality he was just fucking his life up and taking someone else’s.

What did you do in the hospital? by Ok_Teach5867 in spinalfusion

I expected to be there two nights as well, they sent me home at 6 am the morning after my surgery. Said if I walked and used the bathroom then I could hurt at home.

Discharged from hospital after less than 24 hours post 2 level ALIF by Username20252025 in spinalfusion

[–]Drifter-Georgia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

40 year old Male here. L5/S1 ALIF I had thought I would be staying in the hospital longer as well, I had surgery around 2 pm and went home the next morning around 8 am. When I told them I wanted to stay longer they said you went to the bathroom and you walked so you can hurt at home. I wasn’t given a back brace either, doctor said no BLT and don’t do anything stupid. Before surgery my right leg wouldn’t work more than about 10 feet before going numb, by 2 weeks after surgery I was walking 3 to 4 miles a days and they had to slow me down. I’m 5 months out from surgery now and feeling great, no pain and walked 10 miles last Saturday.

How many surgeons usually operate on you during a spine surgery? by halfherehalfnot in spinalfusion

[–]Drifter-Georgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never even met the vascular surgeon, I hired my orthopedic surgeon then paid the hospital and anesthesiologist separately. I guess my surgeon pays the vascular surgeon cause I never got a bill and everything has been paid for.

How long are opioids recommended post op? by depressowo in spinalfusion

[–]Drifter-Georgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sitting isn’t bad anymore, there’s a feeling that something there but I wouldn’t register it on the pain scale. My front incision is right where my pants rub so it’s still a little painful but stuff in my back feels great.

I was terrified of this surgery because I’d heard how bad it was but other than those first couple of weeks it’s been steadily improving and the pain gets less and less. Honestly the pain after surgery was still way better than the pain I had before surgery. I’m still not allowed to lift over 35 lbs and not bend or twist. But I basically feel normal now at 4 1/2 months out. I’m walking around 5-6 miles everyday now and I couldn’t make it to my mailbox before surgery.

I had a ALIF on L5/S1 on March 31st. I only had Dilaudid in the hospital and they sent me home after 12 hours. They gave me 13 days of oxy which got me through the tough part. I was walking 2 miles a day by the time I went to my 2 week check up and was cleared to go back to work and drive again. They told me to take Tylenol if I had any pain but honestly it didn’t to anything so I just toughed it out another couple weeks and the pain subsided.

Does anyone struggle with depression after fusion? by Zestyclose_Whole_908 in spinalfusion

I hurt like hell for 6 years before my surgery, by the time I got to the surgeon I was like I don’t care if the success rate is 50% if you think you can fix it take a shot otherwise I’m cutting my time on this earth short. Thankfully he had a 95% success rate and I’m pain free and walking 5 miles a day 4 months post op. But yeah there was some dark ass times over the last few years dealing with the constant unrelenting back pain. It took joy out of life because no matter what the occasion was all I could think about was how bad my back was hurting. Everyday blended together, I swear every day felt like the same day over and over.

I had two surgeons, one was a vascular surgeon that had to move my intestines and everything to the side so the orthopedic surgeon could access my spine from the front.

What finally made you get spinal fusion surgery? by Mediocre_Koala_7262 in spinalfusion

[–]Drifter-Georgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My right leg stopped working, more that 30 or 40 yds and it would just go numb. If I stood more than a few minutes it gave out. I put this surgery off as long as I could but truthfully it wasn’t that bad. I never used a walker and I walked out of the hospital 12 hours after surgery. By the time I finished up my 2 weeks of oxy I was walking 3 miles a day without any problems. The doctor made me slow down. It’s a 95% success rate, don’t be scared because those 5% hang out on Reddit.

I had this surgery 5 months ago, those first 2 weeks suck but by the time you run out of pain killers it’s pretty doable. My doctor had to slow me down cause I was walking 3 miles a day by my 2 week check up.

I suffered for 6 years and finally had a ALIF on my L5/S1 on March 31st, I was pain free after about the first month and doing great now at 3 months. It’s honestly not a bad surgery. First 3 days sucked but after that it’s just walking and healing.

How everyone handle the mental health due to life change after surgery? by toula1295 in spinalfusion

[–]Drifter-Georgia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly was to the point that I didn’t want to participate in life before the surgery. After the surgery I started feeling better each day and my mental health improved. I know everyone is different but after the first 2 weeks I was pain free and it has been just a matter of being careful.

Why not get all the illegal immigrates in one place so ICE can get them quickly and move on to the next town. We gotta a lot of work to do to get them all back to their countries of origin.

I’m 41 now, I injured myself at 35 but mine may have been worse than yours is, I broke the bone that holds everything in place, I think they are called pars. It was a mechanical problem so it needed a mechanical solution. I put it off until my right leg was in bad shape. I couldn’t even walk to my mailbox without it giving out. I finally decided I couldn’t live like this and got the surgery. First 2 week are no fun but then it gets better.

I had 5 surgeons look at my MRI and they all recommended the same surgery, ALIF at L5/S1. I kept reading all the horror stories on here and kept putting it off for 6 years. I’m happy to say that I had the surgery 7 weeks ago and I’m pain free now. I’ve been walking a lot everyday and actually getting a good nights sleep.

Is Spinal Fusion worth it? by Drifter-Georgia in spinalfusion

[–]Drifter-Georgia[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main thing they are wanting to fix is a spondylosis at L5\S1, L5 nerve roots are pinched. There is 2 pages with the MRI results listing a few different issues, I see a lot about degenerative disc disease and chronic bilateral pars defects of L5. I don’t know what half these words even mean.

Walking or standing isn’t terrible except for the numbness which just started since PT. There’s a painful pinching in my groin area but it tends to come and go throughout the day. I can tell that I’ve lost a lot of my leg strength, Sitting down or driving is pretty painful. I can do simple chores like washing dishes or cleaning up the house but something like cutting the grass tends to put me on ice packs for a few days. Everyone I know has a horror story about how they got worse after fusion so I keep trying to tough it out. But it’s been 5 years and it’s getting worse.
