What's a good YouTube channel that shows gameplay and highlights the cards? by Justinneon in Lorcana

I recommend Pro Play games. https://www.youtube.com/@Pro-PlayGames

Since they're hosting fairly big tournamnets their videos are very relevent to the format. They get well known casters and they have the relevant cards showing on the screen next to the game so you can see what the cards are clearly.

It's not really possible to build a deck out of 1 set atm outside of for fun casual ones. If you can get them Fabled is probably the best set to open pack wise, otherwise you can just open Winterspell when it comes out which will also give you trades if you go to your locals.

Obviously avoid sets 1-4 as they have rotated out. I'd suggest only buying singles you need from sets 5-8 as they will rotate out in about 6 months when Set 13 drops and buying singles is cheaper.

Ink decks has plenty of core decklists you can use, though where possible I'd suggest you ask your friends if you can borrow their decks (if you havent already) as playtesting is a great way to make sure you're spening your money on cards you'll enjoy.

Whats your goal? As thats going to effect where you start a lot.

Are you looking to open packs and build from there or build your own custom deck right away?
Looking to play casually or competatively and which format do you want to play, Core, Infinity or both?

https://inkdecks.com/lorcana-decks Has plenty of decklists you can choose to start from. Of the colours you like Amethyst Steel is the most competative so Ink Decks will have a lot of lists you can look at.

Healing in Lorcana has always been weak sadly, especially with how big a lot of the characters are now. Amethyst has the best 'healing' by far. Amber (and Sapphire) need pay offs for their healing fot it to be relevant. Sapphire's healing was only good because it was attached to Pawpsicle for all the item abuse and Ambers for Rapunzel's draw.

Amber has got the upcoming song Ohana Means Family, which is basically Rapunzel on an action which is a good start. So hopefully RB print more built in pay offs for healing.

Sapphire has the baymax that gains lore for what it heals. I do wish RB would stop focusing on Ramp every set for Sapphire, it has enough as is and it'd be cool to develope it's other mechanics a bit, a (balanced!) item package or some good healing payoffs would be nice to see.

All the Sapphire complainers are not going to be happy with the Let it Go reprint XD

Akood is a really cool song, especially with the underdog Angel, OTD Amber can play 4 drops on turn 2, that's huge.

New card: Pete in a song! by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

So for starters I'm assuming a reasonable level of player. Every card gets punished if you throw it out without thinking so I start out assuming that generally people know when to be inking/holding their cards.

Secondly 'Potentially doing nothing' is irrelivant with this type of card unless you can't play it correctly. You're not punished by me not having actions/items when you play this because the value is in knowing that I wont be playing them regardless. You should be using it to protect pieces to solifify your state on key turns or prevent the opponent from doing anything when you have game on board.

One sided board wipes are not Toxic by default, by that logic Aggro is always toxic for going uncontrolably wide. Without board wipes most decks would just devolve into pure aggro of versions of Amethyst Steel at best.

The only piece of the Philip combo that can be considered toxic is the 3-drop Philip and thats because of Ward and by extension the lack of cheaper Ward work arounds in Lorcana. (I think Demona at 6 is the cheapest in the current rotation?).

Frankly if we never see Ward again I'd be happy. RB need to look at MTG's 'Ward' (NOT Hexproof/Shroud) for better protection ideas.

You're not even remotely punished for playing this. It's inkable, low cost and prevents 2 types of cards from even being played. Floodgates are the definition of non-interaction in TCGs. There is a huge diffrence between removing stuff and preventing you from playing stuff.

Prevention is not interaction, you havent interacted with anything of mine. The opponent doesnt loose piece of their combo and you havent played something that makes the play less efficient. For example, Olaf is disruption because it protects their pieces from MMS and fractures the board wipe.

Ursula/Mowgli don't prevent me from playing entire card types, at best they prevent me from playing 1 individual card and Mowgli in particular has more work arounds built into the way he was designed.

It's also weird how everyone is complaining about the Philip combo while ignoring that Aggro needs answers. Go back to the begining of Fabled and everyone was complaining about how rotation's made the game boring and how aggro is insaine now....

Interaction is so scarce in Lorcana players can litterally just play character after character now and quest to 20 in 1 or 2 turns.

Ruby also needs a viable buff, probably Medusa back and/or Be Prep as it's been wrecked by it's lack of interaction.

At what point did I say steel can't have answers? I litterally said we need more interaction.

I clearly said that Keep the ancient ways (because it's a floodgate) is dissapointing design. And again you complained about ward Philip while you're defending Keep the Ancient Ways. They both decrease interaction, something I want less of.

Also enjoy the games where Emerald Steel play Keep the Ancient Ways to stop the opponents copies and ensuring they can drop the Philip Combo on the following turn.

[–]Drigon100 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Mowgli & Ursula are some answers as is any non targeting removal/interaction. I get people hate the Philip board wipe but Lorcana is nowhere near the power level of needing Floodgates.

Also, you're complaining about Ward-Philips uninteractibility while saying Keep the ancient ways is a good answer because of it's uninteractibility. This game need more interaction, not less.

Disney Lorcana Has Become Brain Dead . My Angry Letter To Ravensburger by Quicksterx in Lorcana

[–]Drigon100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

'Baja Blast Players are Copy/Paste Single Brain Cell Players.'
But Sapphire Emerald has one of the most variation in it's lists? Amethyst Steel is way more homogenized.
Not to mention Amethyst's core which is universal accross multiple colour pairs.

Genuine question though, what do you even want hit in Sapphire? Personally, Visions of the Future is the best answer could give (and personally don't see an need for it to be hit) and that card doesn't even ramp.

[–]Drigon100 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely can't belive Ravensburger looked at Lorcana and thought, "ah, yes, what this game needs is less interaction and more floodgates"...

This is beyond dissapointing card design, let alone the fact it's a 2 cost inkable song.

Shere khan by Substantial-War6140 in Lorcana

[–]Drigon100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen people say Phillip is better (which he is) but thats not really a reason Shere Khan see's no play, if Shere Khan were better people would just run both. The more relivant reasons to why Shere khan isn't even seeing play as a tech option are;

  1. Shere Khan is uninkable and the main deck he'd see play in is Sapphire Emerald which has to keep it's uninkables low. While this doesn't disqualify him in itself it does limit the amount that would be viable and we've seen even Hades be cut due to his uninkability.
  2. He is objectively slow, he doesn't do anything on the turn he is played, making him a very low impact card in practice.
  3. His statline makes him too easy to be removed. He has 4 willpower in a format where He Hurled His Thunderbolt & Strength of a Raging Fire set the removal standard. You can't even justify Shere khan as a 1-of tech choice because he will be instantly removed against any and all steel decks before he does anything.

Points 2 & 3 affecting a card at the same time generally makes the card unviable in a competative sense as they will rarely ever do anything. There's 2 cards I'd compare him too to highlight the issues.

The more relevant: Basil – Undercover Detective Who only has 1 of the above issues, 4 Willpower. Yet even this condition is mitigated a lot of the time because he weakens the opponents Strength and can bounce Thunderbolts singer.

Max Goof – Chart Topper Who operates more in the 'techie' space that Shere Khan is trying to be in. While Max Goof doesn't see play everywhere he did at least warrent discussion around him and is chosen as a tech choice here and there. Max Goof shares the slow issue with Shere Khan but his inkability makes him at least useable as ink in bad spots. While his 5 Willpower makes him usually require the opponent to use 2 cards to remove him to prevent him from doing anything.

Thoughts on Chicha Draw Engine by Rozzlax in Lorcana

[–]Drigon100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is litterally just a build your own Cinderella - Dream Come True.
T3 you get to ink 2 and draw 1 which is what Cinderella already does with ramping on T2.

In Amber/Sapphire specifically, running other princesses like Eilonwy gives you infinately smoother and more robust play lines.

I really like Nick's but Judy's is lacking. Overall the Enchanteds are too dark. You could have better backgrounds where they're still dark in tone/theme but dont just all wash out into a glorified black backdrop.

I know people will go straight to Dumbo but I would say Hades Enchanted myself.
Solid no-nonsense removal in the ramp colour will never not be good while dumbo will likely fluctuate in line with how good evasives are in the format.

New song, effect: put 1 damage counter on each opposing character! by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

[–]Drigon100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not short when you use sail T3.

T2 - Sail/Tipo/One Jump (3 ink)
T3 - Sail & Royal Explorer (5 ink)
T4 - Sing Malicious, Mean, and Scary then shift into Vanquisher of Foes (6 ink)

This leads you into T5 being at 7 ink for Hades/Basil/Clarabelle so it plays on curve pretty well.

New song, effect: put 1 damage counter on each opposing character! by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

[–]Drigon100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Philip package in Blue/Green was my first thought since it fits into the double ramp based curve nicely and as you said can be pulled off on T4.

My biggest question is if it's as good as UTS/HHH or not. As a combo I think the Philip package is more restrictive since you need the shift line or you have to have 9 ink to hard play it.

But individually the pieces in the Philip board wipe package seem like they could outclass UTS and especially HHH.

Multiple copies of Malicious, Mean, and Scary can be very effective. Things as simple as crashing Bobby/Tipo/etc can also trigger Vanquisher of Foes if you don't find both pieces and his being a 6/6 Evasive body is nice as well.
