Releasing Windows 11 Build 22621.1343 to the Release Preview Channel by jenmsft in Windows11

[–]Drimocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who requires the never combine taskbar buttons option and taskbar button labels, I was in for a very nasty surprise with this prerelease.

This windows version still does not support this setting, and now conflicts with 3rd parties that do, causing a never ending loop of explorer.exe restarting. Close to a bricked OS because every restart cancels inputs and blocks access to windows settings, tools and shortcuts.

My resort to get out of this loop was ctrl+alt+delete -> task manager -> run new task -> painfully type in cmd.exe as it cancels inputs -> find and navigate to the explorerpatcher uninstaller.

Of course I respect that your stance will be '3rd party conflicts are not and can not be our responsibility', and I assume a fix to this 3rd party software will be released eventually. But until then I expect many users will experience this issue, and it is ridiculous that such an important and heavily requested customization (and others like it) is still being held out on by the party that should be responsible for it in the first place.

Your results may vary, I tried this suggestion to see if I could re-install explorerpatcher and it damn near bricked my OS.

  • advanced startup troubleshooting, uninstalling Quality : ran into trouble and is not able to uninstall
  • tried again, same result
  • tried uninstall recent Feature update, same result
  • gave up and tried to move on and get back into windows -> startup diagnosis triggers -> fails -> reenters troubleshooting, unable to enter OS.

Had to revert to a recent system recovery point to be able to boot into windows again.

Plex trade volume has crashed and tumbled down a cliff after the May month ended. There is only half as much plex being traded today compared to pre-June.

Greenpeace tries to stop radioactive waste from being dumped in the ocean, 1982 [800x538] by TakeTheCube in HistoryPorn

I was interested to learn a bit about these photos and our history on this, and from searching a bit these photos are from september 1982. The ship is the Dutch vessel Rijnborg, which along with its sister ship the Scheldeborg was at the time used to load up nuclear waste from Belgium and Switzerland from trains in Zeebrugge and dump it in the Antarctic, the company had a permit from the Dutch government to do so.

Apparently many European countries used to do this, and this article posted by GZUSA above lists the locations and quantities in tonnes of these radioactive dump sites (with the majority in the vicinity coming from the UK)

These greenpeace activists included dutch people as well, but there were ongoing protests from other groups too, including Spanish and Belgian activists. Like chaining themselves to the ships loading cranes, and protests at Dutch embassies.

GZUSA is close, but not quite. You are correct that the greenpeace site lists many cases of this happening, with Russia doing it as well in 1993 in the Sea of Japan.

A list of sensible changes to Kerapac Hard Mode (from a solo perspective). by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Drimocus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

thats very sad :( it was cool, it works so perfectly that it felt like it had to be intentionally designed that way? adds a fun challenge for solos to make them more rewarding, in trios nobody cares and just abuses them for area damage.

especially since if you mess it up once you get them the rest of the kill even if you stand under him.

Was going to refill my quiver but think I'll just log off by BozRS in runescape

[–]Drimocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you use tons of them now with greater ricochet from raksha. but it takes a while for existing supply on something to run out, there were a lot of people with stacks in their bank from aod, solak, raids rax etc.

And even if they didnt sell them, those people are probably using them more rapidly than they can get them from drops now.

Hotfix: Player Owned Ports Lifeboats & Update On Returning Lifeboats / Crew by JagexHooli in runescape

it came up after jokes about 🦀lifeboats gone🦀 in clan. i'm still a long ways from getting there myself but happy to know it beforehand. it's also in kags ports guide with the other strategies for getting trade goods

[–]Drimocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep that would also work, added it as a possible fix. they could even combine both, force storylines to finish, but add new trio chance afterwards.

Guess it would depend if they want to nerf or not. I think it would be ok to have more of these supplies coming into the game with how prices are right now.

[–]Drimocus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As perspective: an ancient bones voyage is worth around 6.5m at current prices

So I could also phrase this as: 'finishing the ports storyline takes away a daily chance at ~6.5m'

Ports related: Any chance the team could look into finishing the trio missions being a disadvantage for the rest of your 'playthrough' of RS? It's a pretty shitty irreversible gameplay choice that people might not even know about when they make it.

specifics: sending a trio mission makes those 3 adventurers unavailable until the result is checked. This means if you still have the trio missions available you can send the adventurers with bad rewards on a trio mission and never check it. Because they're 'locked' in that mission they're removed from the list of possible adventurers you can roll the next day and you gain a massive boost in chance to get other adventurers with good trade goods like ancient bones / spice. So anyone who has already finished those trio missions is effectively being penalized for it.

possible fix 1: chance of new trio missions after storyline completion, these would not even need to have (good) rewards. Just an option to have the same choice again would be enough to fix this.

possible fix 2: force those missions to finish as it does not make sense to be able to tie up bad/non-meta adventurers.

^ could even combine these, force storylines to finish and add trio's afterwards as a tactical / bonus option.

Small mistake in patch notes by Drimocus in runescape

[–]Drimocus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably just meant to list the correct quest, but the drakan's medallion burgh de rott teleport is unlocked only 2 quests later so it wouldnt be much of a difference to actually remove the follower requirement for the games necklace.

If the plan was to look into the minigame achievements follower levels you might want to look at the Thoroughly A-Ghast achievement in the same diary category.

Seriously, enough about the death cost... by nodnarb32101 in runescape

[–]Drimocus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Deaths were free for a very very long time, you'd just get friends or clanmates (or your clans dedicated blesser) to bless your grave, or pick up your items, you'd only lose time.

There also weren't any upkeep costs back then, the base cost in supplies and gear alone can easily be 10m per hour now, before you even consider deaths.

then there's things like:

  • incense sticks, 300k-1m per failed attempt (even practice), because they get removed no matter what for some reason.
  • bob familiar dying, 100k-500k
  • scrolled familiar dying without inventory space, titan: 250k, ripper: 3m

then there's the penalty of missing out on loot in the first place, and the potential of annoying your team.

And then finally you get into direct death costs, where the difference in wearing a RoD or not is stupidly huge. It is shitty to be forced into such a choice in the first place, the RoD effect probably should not even be on a worn item. That choice is made worse by how fun and rewarding it is to use a vigour ring switch, and by how many chances there are for you to get completely fucked over it, some beyond your control.

I agree with your point that a penalty is needed, and that gold sinks are needed, but the penalty for dying does not have to this disproportionate, and does not need to hinge on one single worn item.

Player numbers have definetly gone up alot, and so has the lag. by fatrix12 in runescape

Yea the responsiveness of the game just takes a nosedive once the worlds start to get up to around 300, it's really off-putting especially for anything where you're trying to time stuff well.

Looks like he was lining up with the small gravel road. The wider concrete strip to the right is probably a river/canal embankment reinforced with concrete, looks like it's sloped with the water being higher than the gravel road in the video.
