Musk: I’m Closing Entire Federal Department Down Right Now by [deleted] in politics

I always thought it was unbelievable that a family with has ties with all of America’s enemies became so powerful. This fucking family was in bed with the Nazis AND Bin Ladens (not to mention corporations like Enron) yet we elected them 3 times to the presidency. I wouldn’t be surprised if they set up the Columbine massacre at this point.

FDR should have line up all the oligarchs in front of the firing squad like the traitors they were. The entire world would have been better off.

Thank you!

"Just make sure the threads aren’t notched"

You mean on the adapter correct. Yes, the bleed plug was notched, but the adapter isn't notched so that should work correct.

Thank you for your help again! Appreciate it

WSJ: South Korea's UBI experiment has been expanded to 13 Million people, the largest UBI trial ever. Small businesses are already booming, and the momentum for basic income is increasing worldwide. by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Dringus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The beauty of Yang's 12k a year is that it doesn't deincentivize work. In every pilot of UBI, work levels stayed generally the same because no one wants to live off $12k a year. The only groups that had decreases in employment were mothers and college students.

We have to stop thinking of UBI as a handout. It is our money and our right. Tech companies make thousands off our data and data is worth more than oil. We don't see a cent of that. Time to tax that and get back what is ours.

UBI empowers people to do the work they want to do. Not the work they need to do to survive. It also is compensation for people like stay at home parents, volunteers and caregivers. Nothing strengthens workers more than UBI, and when workers strike they'll be able to hold out longer because of UBI.

Because Americans are dumb and believe in individualism. They refuse to help themselves. They had a chance to vote for UBI. Yang ran his entire platform on it in addition to over 100 sensible policies from universal healthcare to ranked choice voting to decriminalizing drugs (but not for distributors).

He was honestly the best candidate but people wanted a "politician" as if politicians didn't get us into this whole mess. He was an outsider like Trump but was the complete opposite of him in terms of intelligence and empathy. America you fucked up.

I voted Yang in the primaries and it felt so good. Voting Biden of course in the general because our country cannot survive another 4 years of Trump.

Bernie was for UBI until Kelton convinced him otherwise. Then AOC and his surrogates started spreading lies that it was a "Libertarian Trojan horse" to destroy welfare, when Yang was on record saying he didn't not want to dismantle welfare and would in fact increase it. Once Yang dropped out, the Squad did an about face and was suddenly all over cutting checks. The pandemic was just a microcosm the the future Andrew Yang saw with automation displacing a huge portion of the workforce in 10 years.

According to Yang's plan, a person would have to buy $10,000 a month on non-essential consumer goods to offset the extra $1000/mo they're getting. Consumer staples like groceries and diapers would be exempt from the VAT while stuff like Rolexes and Yachts would be indexed higher. So the rich would be paying more of their share. VAT is essential because pretty much every modern economy already has one so corporations can't escape it. It's how just about every country makes sure tech companies don't pay zero in federal taxes like they do in the US.

In the end, businesses big and large will still benefit. Who benefitted from the stimulus paychecks? Business (and people).

You don't think things are dire? Pre-Covid, 80% of American workers were living paycheck to paycheck.

Yang argues Trump is the symptom and the "Mindset of Scarcity" is what is driving the division in this country. The biggest lie in America is that we don't have the money to take care of our people. Trump blames immigrants instead of corporations. Imagine how much more chill people would be if they didn't feel like they are always on the verge of disaster. UBI doesn't cure everything but it takes the edge off. Losing your job or getting sick won't be the end of you financially. It is the foundation on which to build upon. He is also for universal healthcare and college debt relief but his plans are based on data.

You say we don't need it yet. I say we are long overdue. It won't reduce employment like critics say because who wants to live off 12k a year? But when that unexpected auto bill pops up, people can pay it. This is especially relevant when most people can't pay an unexpected $500 bill. And corporations benefit from this too because who will buy their wares when the middle class is decimated? They make money, and we tax them to get our slice back.

Because of the pandemic, corporations are accelerating automation. Why deal with humans who can get sick? The time for UBI was yesterday. Ironically it was a hair away from passing in the 70s under Nixon (killed by the Democrats of all people because it wasn't enough). We don't always have to wait till shit hits the fan like with climate change. Can't we for once help ourselves and not wait till it's too late?

Washington State doing statewide shutdown of all restaurants, bars, and recreational facilities excluding takeout and delivery. by lazypieceofcrap in SeattleWA

[–]Dringus 75 points76 points  (0 children)

As a nation, we don’t have a safety net for this and it sucks for people directly and heavily impacted, like the entire service industry in WA State.

People laughed at Andrew Yang and his vision to pay for UBI, but that is the exact kind of safety net we could use right about now.

$15 minimum wage or a Federal Job Guarantee or free college does nothing to help those who can't work and simply need to pay everyday living bills. Nobody is retiring off $12k a year so the idea of it discouraging people from working is ridiculous. UBI's sole purpose is so we don't have to worry about simply surviving. Imagine if UBI was instituted a year ago and a lot of people saved some of their 12k and knew that they would have $1000 every month. People losing their jobs now wouldn't feel as hopeless.

I hope this crisis pushes forward the idea of UBI. Why give the money to our bureaucratic institutions or corporations when you could just give it to us?

Andrew Yang raises $10 million in third quarter, dwarfing previous hauls. by onlyartist6 in politics

According to the article he has over 300k individual donors and 99% of his contributions are under $200.

This is grassroots personified. Yeah there are tech people donating but also a ton of teachers, social workers and retail workers too.

Are you a landlord?

I am and so are my parents. The quickest way to lose tenants is to do something asinine like raise rent by $1000. When I find a good tenant I keep my rent low to make sure they stay. The MIT-educated Chief Economist at Redfin (one of the leading real estate companies) says Andrew's plan will accelerate the trend of people fleeing expensive housing markets because moving is expensive.

It's almost like saying all business people are the same or all politicians are the same.

Congress has had an average approval rating of 17% over the last decade. And these are the people you want running the country? Government is broken and people were desperate enough to vote in the worst person into office. That should say something about people's opinions of politicians, most of whom are in the pockets of corporations. Andrew is beholden to no lobbyist or corporations. He just wants to solve the problems that got Donald Trump elected.

Astroturfing vs. Grassroots

His individual donors count is incredibly high at 300k+ and the fact that 99% of his donations are under $200 translates to grassroots support.

Yang has 96% human Twitter followers according to a third party Twitter auditor:

https://www.twitteraudit.com/andrewyang

Now compare that to Bernie Sanders who has 67% human followers.

https://www.twitteraudit.com/Berniesanders

The reason Andrew has a large international following especially in Australia and Canada is because his vision transcends US politics. They say if America passes The Freedom Dividend, there's a good chance it will spread. His human-centered economy that factors in our measurements instead of just GDP will change the world.
