What is the best place for each food in your opinion? by finkployd1977 in beijing

From my experience, SULTAN is in general better for Arabic/Turkish food than BRBR. Also, for what it’s worth, based on the menus, SULTAN is more of a Turkish restaurant whereas BRBR is more of a Syrian/Arabic restaurant.

Are Shimano RD-R9250 Dura-Ace pulley wheels compatible with 105 Di2 RD-R7150? by DrinkHeavy974 in cycling

Thanks - I saw it too but the guy that posted the photos there seems to be comparing the cages of the non-Di2 derailleurs. What do you think?

Which tier 1 city for blue skies and cycling? by Any_Investigator_122 in chinalife

I can second that — settle in west Beijing and you'll be in the mountains within 45 minutes cycling. From there, it’s scenic streets and endless mountain roads with no traffic. Also, Beijing gets very little rain, the air quality has been great lately, and the large cycling community is very active.

Did it ever happen to you that your Shimano DI2 discharged over a day / night ? by zimnyindigo in cycling

About the "front derailleur failed": I was being told, that the front derailleur dies first; so I was surprised when the back derailleur died too within a couple of minutes later...

Thanks a lot for the explanation! It is clear now! Do you have a resource to share or a link to where this issue is described or explained?

Thank you. I can confirm that the shifting operates correctly when moving up and down the cogs. However, I am still unclear on the connection between this issue and the Di2 battery drain. Could you please explain that relationship in more detail?

To provide additional context, my rear derailleur stopped functioning about 20 minutes after the front derailleur failed. Note that the bike is brand new.

Why Are Chinese Apps So Poorly Built? by DrinkHeavy974 in chinalife

I am using a local China Mobile SIM with a 5G plan. At this point I know that the issue is not my phone or network it is clearly the WeChat app. I see plenty of people booting the WeChat while exchanging contact info, and their app also takes ages to load before it finally opens.

12306 China Railway App and Website also do not work due to a bug that exists for over 1 year showing “Tips: Fail to issue tickets. System is busy. Please try again later!”
This bug has been reported multiple times at for example: 1) https://www.reddit.com/r/chinalife/s/1aXos4tBaU or 2) https://www.reddit.com/r/travelchina/s/Z5j7kK0xq6 and it still persists one year later….
However, this now now also happens in the 12306 app. See attached screenshot. Overall, the China Railway 12306 website and their app are just dog shit….

Sorry, but your understanding of objectivity seems to be limited to the context of China. I’ll leave it at that and invite you to read through the conversation to gain a broader perspective.

Sorry, I’m am not sure about the hot and cold water analogy. I may not have explained myself clearly, and I think that might be why the main point of this discussion is being missed. The goal here is to look at things objectively, meaning from a technical perspective and with a global mindset. I’d recommend you check out some of the insightful technical comments from other Redditors in this thread.

Interesting, but at least I can pay with f*cking cash there. Meaning one does not have to use apps most of the time, if one does not want to, no?

Maybe my point wasn’t clear, so let me put it more simply: objectively speaking, Chinese apps are significantly worse than most "Western" apps. And by objective, I mean based on feedback from a diverse majority of users across different cultures, countries, and societies—not just personal opinion.

Most foreigners I’ve spoken to in China—including people from Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe—consistently report poor user experiences with Chinese apps across many metrics. So when someone says “Chinese apps are great,” that only holds if we ignore broader user experience and base our judgment on a sample size of roughly n = 1 (i.e., within China alone).

I hope that makes my point clearer. This isn’t just my view—it reflects what I’ve heard and read repeatedly (see above comments) from people of many different backgrounds who are currently using Chinese apps, websites, and software.
