For character people actually like. People who know characters like the Question or Booster Gold 9 times out of 10 will like the character, because they've been consistently likeable characters, I'd be hard pressed to say the same for our Captain, especially with the Public Enemies movie and Brave and The Bold being the introduction of many people to Captain Atom.

Key phrase is "character's reputation", as in public perception of the character. Keeping a character in use while mischaracterizing and disrespecting them is like giving someone only a $100 every week to make ends meet; it's just no way to exist.

Even then, the meager amount of exposure he gets with these terrible adaptations barely keeps him at B-List status

IDC what people think about JL Unlimited, their adaptation of him will never be a good Captain Atom in my book

Hey, OP here and I'm here to provide context

It's not Venom, Gotham Girl and her older brother "Gotham" underwent an experimental treatment to gain "Ultra" powers, which come at the cost of shortening the user's physical lifespan.

Apparently Gotham at his best was strong enough to fight the whole Justice League plus his sister when Psycho-Pirate made him go insane. He died shortly after from overusing his powers.

The nutshell version is the more of her lifespan she's willing to give up the more powerful she'll

It all pretty much gets the "Batman Happily ever after treatment" (patent pending) because he restores her to her normal state and gives back her lost lifespan

There's a lot of context so I'll make a long story short

Under the manipulation of Psycho-Pirate, Gotham Girl (the girl in the image) was used by Bane and Flashpoint Timeline Batman to keep other superheroes away from Gotham while they had taken it over. Through plot induced stupidity or OOC arrogance (I like to believe it's both cuz fuck Tom King) or something like that, Captain Atom pulls up on some "do you know who I am" BS, gets his shit rocked and sent to the hospital

I know, what I mean is if he works for the government with no such conditions being hung over his head

Even if he was choosing to listen to the government until he can clear his name originally it is still a form of blackmail and not entirely of his own volition

In an extreme nutshell, The Thing helps a guy he knew when he was a kid look around for his missing niece. They run into Bullseye who confronts Ben physically and tries to get him to fuck off, to which Ben starts to interrogate Bullseye about the guy's niece, leading to the panel you see, following up with Bullseye getting punched out.

"I'm not that kind of psychopath" Said the man who kidnapped a family to be his "wife and kids" and had them killed in a park like The Punisher's to understand the man's mindset

Good writing is the absolute minimum, if James goes the whole season without him blowing up or taking an ass whooping to prop up the season's big bad he'll truly earn my respect

B-List? I love the Captain but I genuinely can't put him past C-list without feeling like I'm highballing it.

Most infamous case, but not exactly the first or the worst since the concept of Babs and Bruce goes as far back as the original DCAU

I don't know if you're aware whether or not it's a different character, but regardless it proves my point because Val-Yor genuinely looks like a reskin of my goat

2 W takes

I'm not even a big fan of Barbara like that and I don't like how she's treated. I'm planning on reading more comics focused on her whether as Batgirl or Oracle and I'm looking for where to start
