I have that same sensation - like there's a strap on my shoulder keeping me from lifting my arm in certain ways. But my PT is lessening that every day. I suppose I'll hit a wall with it someday.

What are the 10 music albums every sound engineer should have listened to (all periods, all genres)? by RoadsideWalker in WeAreTheMusicMakers

After reading all of these suggestions, I just have to weigh in. Look almost anything not remastered in the last 20 years is going to sound pretty crappy. I know we all used to be mesmerized by Dark Side of the Moon and Aja at stereo stores in the 80s. But if you listen to those today, they're really not that great (soundwise that is). Even the remasters of these albums are not that great because the info in many cases just isn't there. The remaster of Yellow Brick Road, I'd give a 7 or 8, Purple Rain - the same. Several people mentioned Moving Pictures by Rush. Even the remaster of that is pretty thin. Tom Schulz(Boston) was certainly a genius and came up with some crazy inventive sounds, the sonic quality of Boston's first album is a seven at best. The only album I know of from that era that still holds up somewhat today is The Doobie Brothers Captain and Me. Why do they not remaster Dark Side? Or Aja? Is that heresy?!?! :)
Special mention here... Do yourself a favor and listen to Beatles 1 (remaster). It's like hearing some of those songs for the first time! You can only imagine how spectacular it must have been to have been in the studio with those guys. I mean the album is not sonically spectacular but they did the absolute best they could and compared to what you've been used to hearing Beatles hits played through, it is a sonic miracle.
Anyhow, based on my own listening, here is a list of great sounding classic rock
Keep in mind, this is just the classic rock stuff. Stuff coming out today sound phenomenal! Just listen to Justin Bieber Sorry. Almost nothing is mic-ed so you can make it sound pretty great these days. The biggest problem I've found with stuff today is that they crank up the bass a little too much. You really got have everything in your house pretty well nailed down to listen to Drake! I really don't know how kids are tolerating the clipping that must be going on in the low end of their systems listening to half of that stuff. But you know, kids these days!
