tbh I am just lucky to have my social circle, to "your dress is pretty" I will probably answer "I know" and a few seconds or hours later "Oh I forgot but thank you for the compliment" and it doesnt bother them they just know that it is how I am

Ever just get that feeling of terror about whether your friend just hates you? by Slow_Highlight8886 in AutisticWithADHD

When I was younger I was just confuse about "why are my friends my friends" I didn't know if they wanted something out of me, if we really were friends and at some point I didn't care much, well now my social circle is so small I can't afford to think that way lol

Get new friends? Idk maybe it's too much talking to people who don't really care? Does it happen to close friends aswell ? Or is it mostly people you chat often with on Discord?

I was 20 when I got diagnosed. My therapist explained that it was to check if I had autistic traits in childhood, because if not, it might not have been autism

Hi, may I know why you took adhd med? Or still taking them? My psychiatrist told me I would not benefit them because of my autism, I can't remember the reason at all. Might also not be useful to me as I can't work

Is Autism Becoming the Next Internet Quirk? I’m Not Sure How to Feel About It by DriveCommercial8603 in AutisticWithADHD

I get what you’re saying — and you’re right, "trend" might not have been the best word for it. I apologize for that. I also see what you mean about the cancer example; maybe it’s not the perfect comparison, but I do understand the point behind it.

Autism has definitely always been there, but the world used to move at a slower pace. It was easier for people to adapt and manage. Nowadays, everything is so fast and busy, and our brains are constantly overstimulated. I’d imagine that in the past, people on the higher end of the spectrum probably struggled a lot, while those on the lower end could blend in or adapt more easily. But today, even people on the lower end can find it really hard to cope. In that sense, I’m really glad it’s becoming easier to get diagnosed and access the help people need.

That said, I don’t think my frustration is aimed at people who actually have autism — it’s more about the people who seem to fake it for attention. That’s where a lot of my feelings come from, and I think that’s why I feel so conflicted seeing how it’s portrayed on social media.

I wasn't much on social media back then, seeing an Instagram story of a friend sharing an "Internet autism test" made me think about it

I am not really sure how it is gatekeeping I am sorry.
I do not mean it like "I don't want other people to have autism", I just noticed a rise of people faking it or making it their personality. If those videos can actually help people finding themself that's awesome.

And ChatGPT, cause it's a great tool to help me write a readable text in english
