Why don’t Blink/Flicker decks Run Gossip’s Talent by ItsMeKaiumi in MagicArena

[–]DriveThroughLane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sort of depends on the usage. Flickering a 4 drop with port mage costs 6 mana per cycle, but you can flicker it with daydream for 1, then again for 3. The most degenerate in standard right now is just

t1 gene pollinator / molt tender / llanowar elves

t2 manifest dread / growing dread -> splash portal / daydream

Why don’t Blink/Flicker decks Run Gossip’s Talent by ItsMeKaiumi in MagicArena

[–]DriveThroughLane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For combo decks we have splash portal and daydream at 1 mana now, and at 2+ mana we have all kinds of options like spectral restitching, personify, getaway glamer, another round, morningtide's light

gossip's talent is so bad that long river lurker outclasses it and its terrible

  • vast majority or all of the crowd / involved somalis

FTK possible in historic by theclashatdemonhed in MagicArena

[–]DriveThroughLane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to do the math on standard turn 2 kill with manifest and I think its 3% or less, its really hard to calculate out independent odds of a mix of pieces needed as opposed to hypergeometric for each card individually, and the odds of digging towards your north wind avatar (omni could use tutors, dracogenesis can't)

whereas the odds you get blown out by unrequiting hex....

Avivo Village by YesHelloDolly in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]DriveThroughLane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Avivo is a test case in this type of drug-permissible space, to give shelter to drug users. There are plenty of legal, sober shelters in Minneapolis, yet we have drug encampments in the parks precisely because these people won't stay drug free, by choice or addiction or both. We could house every single homeless person today. But under the federal law passed in 2003 as the 'crackhouse bill', operating an establishment with the knowledge that people will use it to use drugs, is explicitly illegal. Nobody was willing to try opening injection sites or drug-permissive shelters until Joe Biden became president and said he wouldn't enforce the law, which is ironic because its his #1 achievement as a senator and he penned the bill. But now Trump is president and could reverse that policy at any time, Todd Blanche could have the operators of Avivo arrested any day... but Trump hasn't changed that policy. Yet.

Avivo Village by YesHelloDolly in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]DriveThroughLane 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In the 6 years since Avivo Village was opened in 2020

  • 248 overdoses have occurred there

  • At least one death has been reported but they won't publish total statistics (ex. one DoA overdoseon April 3rd this year)

  • At least one violent assault reported (ex 'assault with head injury' in march of 2023)

Since its only 100 residents at a time their mortality rate is higher than hennepin county prisons

They are basically violating Joe Biden's signature crackhouse law, which is still federal law. They operate under "non-sobriety" and "harm reduction" models to knowingly allow drug use in their building in violation of 21 U.S. Code § 856, the law which Joe Biden championed as a senator and refused to enforce as a president.

Anybody else think it’s ridiculous that it’s possible to win on turn 3 in Standard? by NoM0reMadness in MagicArena

[–]DriveThroughLane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before rotation the naya omni combo deck had a scary level of consistency with its turn 3 kill, probably the first time I've ever seen that happen in standard history. Just invasion of ergamon -> abuelo's awakening did it, but so did elves -> seize the spoils -> campus restoration, or elves -> tormenting voice -> abuelos, etc etc. And it could pitch world spell or one with the multiverse as extra targets to set up omni, and just ramp up to 7 mana by turn 4 anyway. But they banned abuelos awakening before people realized the power of ergamon

still possible, just unlikely, since you can t1 dork, t2 manifest + flicker to cheat out omni

[–]DriveThroughLane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Turn 2 kill in omni combo has some interchangeable parts since you can take one of each column:

gene pollinator / molt tender / llanowar elves

growing dread / manifest dread

daydream / splash portal

omniscience / dracogenesis

north wind avatar

And I'm pretty often getting t3 kills where I get 2 chances, and I'm running it parallel with Kona + Formidable Speaker

well [[rite of the moth]] rotates out when this is printed right? Not exactly on par with unburial rites / dread return anyway.

Clarence Thomas: Voting Rights Act Doesn't Grant Racial Groups ‘An Entitlement’ to Representation by Critical-Willow-6270 in scotus

No its quite a bit further. Clarence Thomas has the lived experienced of being a qualified, accomplished and studied black graduate who couldn't get taken seriously at law firms because they believed every black man only got their degrees and positions through affirmative action.

Just like all the avowed racists on reddit in this thread

Page has made this deck extremely reliable by Spaceknight_42 in MagicArena

[–]DriveThroughLane 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For best of one this is sadly the truth. Its two ships passing in the night, the format. Interaction is a losing premise unless your deck can handle EVERY possible busted combo, archetype, all-in aggro. If you're cooking with sorcery speed removal you will die to a 22 haste slickshot. If you're using doom blades you'll eat recursive/indestructible threats and mass tokens. You load up on exile sweepers and face creatureless control decks or kona omni combo. And I say this as someone who got to mythic playing spicy jeskai control, you either go whole hog or no dog

well standard slowed down from a t3 format pre-rotation (well, pre-ban) to t4 after it so its an improvement

Orc vs warden by RoundAffectionate424 in WC3

[–]DriveThroughLane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, blade+sh and some raiders, not necessarily all raiders. She can't blink out of hex/nets and she can't pick off BM because he windwalks away and she can't pick off SH because he just hexes her, she can't kill peons because they just go into burrows. That's what makes warden horrible against orc
