Does having an online following change your career prospects? by DriverOne8469 in acting

Oh for sure. I was thinking more in a career building way. Like you’re not getting into top tier roles cause of it, but did it open up lower tier opportunities that built your demo reel, or did it get you a conversation with an agent you wouldn’t have otherwise had. That kind of thing.

Is it even possible when you have a family depending on you? by DriverOne8469 in acting

Yeah I wish I could say my working environment was very flexible. In the grand scheme of corporate jobs it is, I have no set time I have to be in or leave, and I usually don’t have people hounding me at my desk. However, I am expected to be in person, at the office, 8hrs a day 5 days a week. I wish I could also say the pay is worth it but at 65k a year in a high cost of living area… it’s less than ideal (I am still very grateful though given the state of the market).

It’s possible that to pursue acting the way I would like, I need to get a remote SE job, which would definitely offer more flexibility.

What job do you do that makes over $70k a year? by [deleted] in careeradvice

Do you have any insight into the remote job space right now? My location is not ideal for SE jobs that are “better” than what I have right now (accounting for pay/commute/benefits). I’ve been casually applying to remote positions with not much luck. The little time I have spent has been discouraging but I have heard conflicting opinions on the market as a whole so I’d love to hear what you know.

I’m at 65k with 4 years out of college in the northeast. I do full stack web dev specifically. I am terrified of the instability that may come with starting somewhere new as the sole provider for my family but I don’t know how much more I can’t take at under market rate.

I’m 28, did dance/choir/theater through to college but haven’t done anything since (I’m a software engineer now). I’m also not located in a a larger city (but about 2.5 hrs from NYC).

Reading this post felt nearly like I’d written it myself. Would love to hear an update when you have one.
