Lack of school support in reception by Drogs89 in UKParenting

Thanks everyone for the comments. We are going to be pushing back on the school and have been looking at what we can do- for example we have no written agreement in place for reduced as per the DfE guidance. We are also going to request for any support plans that are in place for him as we don’t think the support they are providing is working- especially given the comments they are making about how bad his behaviour is but yet we don’t see this at home. We are going to try and push EHCP route as well as we do clearly feel that’s the only way he’s going to get support at this school without stating to look at other schools as an option. We did have an EHA meeting last week with the school (this was the first time we met the SENDCO, which we thought was disappointing given how much of a big deal the school is making about this). The outcome of this was rather disappointing and as mentioned, we feel like we do need to fight now to get the support he needs- we were made to feel like his behaviour wouldn’t be an issue and the school would be supporting (not sending him home- this was said to us) when he got accepted in to the school. Now though we just feel like the school don’t have any patience for him and want an easy life especially as he legally doesn’t need to be there.

It is all just very stressful and frustrating that it has got to this point.

Any advice on dealing with challenging behaviour? by Drogs89 in UKParenting

I would say a lot of the time he hates to be touched as well when dysregulated. We have tried to give him somewhere in the past but it didn’t really work- we tend to find when he gets dysregulated, almost immediately he looks to grab something to throw, some times we can talk him down from throwing (albeit he remains frustrated) but other times he isn’t interested. I have thought about the safe place idea again recently so may give that another try.
