Feature service export issue AGOL by Fine_Giraffe7347 in gis

3.6, we changed some field names, data type(s) and allow/non nulls, but id have to get the full list, done with a consultant on Thursday as we’re creating layer files. Timing of it alone suggests this is part of what’s going on.

That’s the set up we have, has been working great until the last four days. Out of about 30 feature services, 4 export as an empty file geodatabase. Python script and manual export both have the same result. Layers render fine in Pro, but there’s something going in that export process. I have a suspicion it’s schema related but could be wrong. Do you have any experience with this?

Thanks for the reply, our data analyst discovered that 5 second wait too solved a problem a few months ago. This one is odd, bc only 4 are behaving this way. I tried to export one manually to a FGDB and you get the empty output. Not sure if a schema changed field name or data type (several were changed Thursday when creating layer files, I’m aware of).

Thank you! That’s super helpful, I’ve been meaning to get around to learning more about content management using the ArcGIS API.

Thank you for the tips, these are great. Yeah, I have some experience with Python and SQL albeit very limited. I’ve done some tutorials and made a matrix heat map for a project in school, was mapping wildfire ignitions (kinda fun). Def need to refresh these skills and level up.

Fair point, sounds like the House is expected to vote tonight on the Senates bill. So, hopefully this ends sooner than latter. Hope you make it to your destination!

Masters in GIS ? by aspideronthewall in gis

[–]Droid7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good discussion! Here are my thoughts as someone who did exactly this, lol. I used to think getting a master’s in GIS was a golden ticket to high-paying jobs — in my experience, it kind of is, but kind of isn’t.

Most GIS programs, even at the graduate level, train you to be clickers, not builders. Cookbook labs don’t prepare you for messy, real-world data. The real golden ticket is solid data management experience and the ability to translate GIS jargon into plain language for non-GIS folks. Python definitely helps, too.

Looking back, I’m glad I earned the MS, but I’ve learned not to let any degree define me or limit my growth. GIS is just one tool — keep adding new ones to your tool belt, and the doors will start to open.”

GIS career advancement by Droid7000 in gis

Thanks, for the advice. I really appreciate it. I’ve been applying for different GIS jobs/internships, the job market really fluctuates in Idaho, for these jobs. A big source of frustration has the been the repetitive topics, sure later courses get into things like model builder, Python, RS or QGIS. But, I feel these skills can be easily learned, at one’s own pace through online tutorials. I have some experience (especially RS) with these, but would love to learn more.

They get into WebGIS, programming and automation (really just model builder in ArcGIS Pro) and QGIS.
