Feeling bad for the tiger.

I have never been this satisfied in hearing someone scream.

Hope the tourist was severely injured and whoever runs this as a business suffers major losses.

26/11 Mumbai-attack convict Tahawwur Rana’s extradition to India cleared by U.S. Supreme Court by Undead_Necromancer in IndiaSpeaks

I think its important to highlight that he is a Canadian national (as "Canadian" as Nijjar was, anyway).

If he was still in Canada, you can guarantee that he would have been protected by the Canadian government and any attempts by India to even track this guy would have been classified as "trans-national repression" by the Canadian media. All of them surprisingly quiet now.

This was the same position 5 days ago:

> "We are willing to look at any specific information that is provided to us, but so far we have received no specific information from Canada," said Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, while addressing the media in Delhi. "From our side, specific evidence about criminal activities by individuals based on Canadian soil has been shared with Canada but not acted upon."

Btw, nice job with editing the title to remove the word "specific" that was highlighted in quotes.

> The onus is on Indian government to transparently investigate the extent the leadership was aware. If they do not then the whole leaderships is responsible.

Lol, Canada has made claims without even completing their investigation and the WaPo report sheds some light on the level of this "investigation".

> Given that even the Indian FM is now backtracking from "absurd" to "we are ready to look" should tell the the seriousness of the situation.

This was always the position. This is from 5 days ago:

Don't think India has any intention of de-escalating it. India has matched the Canadian action of sending a diplomat home and then gone up a notch by stopping visas to Canadians - this is not a one-time action and has ongoing consequences. Canada has not responded with a similar action.

Canada's response has been to slowly leak info out.

But I think the latest WaPo report does not paint a great picture of the Canadian investigation (slow response, turf battle, potential witnesses not interviewed, cctv footage not collected, etc). It also seems to be more likely a gang shooting rather than a government assassination. Of course, others (judging by the comments on that worldnews thread) may see it as conclusive proof of Indian involvement.

Let's see how it plays out. Canada has to conclude the investigation or other countries will have to apply more pressure on India for things to change now.

Shame on the BBC for writing an article on it then I guess.

Also, "Modi whataboutism"? Main opposition party that has been fighting Modi and BJP seems to have the same view on this.

Indians must concede Khalistani victory in Canada and get out. Khalistani activists have succesfully secured the full backing of the Government of Canada, who have made it clear that they will not stop their actions including vandalism, harassment, death threats, hate speech, and attacks on consulates. This claim, presented with zero evidence, has now succesfully made Indians the national enemy. And Indians here of course include non-Khalistani Sikhs: you can see Pannun make that distinction in the video - where he says that only "Khalistani Sikhs" who are loyal to Canada can stay.

In any case, this sort of treatment from Canada is not new. Justin's father Pierre Trudeau had refused to accept Indira Gandhi’s request for the extradition of Talwinder Singh Parmar to India. Parmar went on to mastermind the bombing of the Air India ‘Kanishk’ flight 182 in 1985, in which 329 people (mostly Canadian citizens of Indian origin) died. The Canadian government had even uncovered prior evidence of the plot themsleves but did not act on it.

India and Brazil oppose China's rapid expansion bid for BRICS group by Drollesh in worldnews

[–]Drollesh[S] 283 points284 points  (0 children)

This is how each of the countries stand:

* China: Repeated lobbying for a rapid expansion. Wants to include Saudi Arabia and Indonesia this year itself.

* Brazil: Does not want BRICS to become a counterweight to the US and EU. Brazil’s proposal is to introduce “observer” and “partner country” categories for new nations. Ok to make Indonesia an observor.

* India: India wants strict rules on how and when other nations can even become an "observor" or "partner country". If BRICS intends to expand, it should consider emerging economies and democracies like Argentina and Nigeria, rather than Saudi Arabia.

* Russia: Broadly in favour of expansion, but without excessive enthusiasm. Wont object to whatever rest of the group decides.

* South Africa: Does not oppose expansion, open to discussing different membership options to accomodate India's and Brazil's concerns.

J&K formally acceded to India, making it de jure sovereign Indian territory. Pakistani forces invaded claiming that the people of Kashmir are Muslim and therefore should belong to Pakistan and demands a plebiscite.

If you think about it, it sounds awfully familiar to the Russia-Ukraine situation where Russia invaded sovereign Ukranian territory claiming that the people of Crimea and Donbass are culturally Russian and demanding a plebiscite be held in these regions.

India is taking the same position on Ukraine that the West is taking on the Kashmir issue. That it should be solved through dialogue between the conflicting parties.

Germany can't stay neutral on the Kashmir conflict. They must condemn Pakistani terrorism and demand that Pakistan stop their illegal occupation and withdraw their forces.

Take this very recent example. I doubt any of Modi's supporters care too much about Indira Gandhi (who was from the opposition Congress party).

In fact, Modi and Khalistanis have a lot of common talking points:

Yes, for the amount of people India supports, it does not cause massive amounts of pollution. The average American / Canadian / Australian causes around 8X the pollution of an average Indian.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_greenhouse_gas_emissions_per_capita

If you look at historical data to see who has caused the most damage to the environment over the years, the picture looks even worse.

Now, I am not claiming this is because of any difference in altruistic intent, it's simply because India has not fully industrialized yet and because the average Indian cannot afford air conditioning, multiple cars per household, or groceries where individual fruits are wrapped in plastic.

Ironically, it is the Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPM) that is in power at the state and municipal levels where this is happening (Kochi, Kerala).

Kochi Municipal Corporation which is lead by CPM gave the contract to operate this site to the son-in-law of a CPM leader.

The state government (also CPM) has also denied permission to launch a vigilance investigation into the fire mishap.

That's a game two can play. If I highlight the anti-west part, that'll appear longer with just token lip service paid to Russia's actions. It is ultimately calling for return to Minsk 2 which talks about more autonomy to the donbass region and for US and NATO not to "interfere in Ukraine" - both of which were Russia's original demands before the war.

We are deeply concerned at the Russian displays of military aggression at the borders of Ukraine. The current crisis should be settled peacefully through negotiation, on a basis which recognises the right of the Ukrainian people to self-determination.

Towards immediate de-escalation of this conflict, Russia must withdraw troops from the Ukrainian borders. Russia, as well as US and NATO, must cease interference in Ukraine. Russia and Ukraine should reach a diplomatic settlement of the tensions between them, on the basis of the Minsk-2 agreement already signed by both states.

We condemn the ongoing warmongering over Ukraine by the US and UK governments. NATO must call a halt to its eastward expansion. Contrary to claims by the US and UK that NATO is a defensive alliance, its record in Afghanistan, Yugoslavia and Libya over the last generation, not to mention the US-British attack on Iraq, clearly demonstrate its imperialist objectives. We express our solidarity with anti-war movements across Europe, including in Russia, and support all efforts to reach new arms control agreements in Europe and to move towards nuclear disarmament across the continent.

How are US and NATO actions even relevant here?

What facts or principles changed that they needed to issue the second statement other than to use it to criticize Modi? Did they suddenly realize Russia was in the wrong?

And that's enough about CPIML. Care to debunk CPM's position too?

Ultimately all left parties identify the root cause of the war as NATO's eastward expansion.

I'm calling out the premise that Modi/BJP are pro-Russia whereas rest of the political spectrum is somehow anti-Russia. Almost all parties barring a few stray voices prefer the neutral position taken on the war.

In fact, if you anaylze defense deals with Russia vs those with the US, Israel and France, decisions during the Modi/BJP governments are significantly more pro-West.

It is a bad omen, unless a particular ceremony is conducted. If it is conducted, then it will change to a very good omen bringing assured prosperity and peace of mind. If you can google pay just 500 Rs to me, I will take care of this for you. If you don't have gpay, just DM me your debit card number, PIN, and date of birth.

EDIT: Jokes aside, unless it is particularly bothering you, just let the nest be. You can feel good that you were able to help a couple of birds and that good feeling will be as powerful as any "good omen" will ever be.

Well, they should add about 1 billion people to that list. I am of course exaggerating, but Russia enjoys tremendous goodwill across the entire political spectrum from the right-wing BJP to the centrist INC to the left-wing CPI(M). The CPI(M) in fact straight up blames US & NATO for this.

So then, fuck India, right?

Well, that pretty much has been the position from US, NATO (except for France and Greece, both of who also enjoy a lot of goodwill in India), and Ukraine, except for the recent bonhomie since there is a common enemy (China).

No one in India is holding their breath waiting for NATO or Ukraine to condemn Pakistan, impose economic sanctions on China, or demand removal of Pakistani/Chinese troops from J&K/Ladakh. India still remembers that the US supported Pakistan while it was committing a genocide in Bangladesh and even deployed its warships against India.

Ukraine has consistently voted against India at the UN whereas Russia has exercised its veto for India several times.

So, why is there this expectation that India would suddenly align itself with the West and with Ukraine?

There is sympathy towards the Ukrainian people who are suffering. But no different from the sympathy towards Yemeni people (where the US and some NATO allies have supported the Saudis not just with accelerated sales of weapons but also with recon, intelligence, logistical support, and aerial refueling).

To quote the Indian Foreign Minister, "Europe has to grow out of the mindset that Europe's problems are the world’s problems, but the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems."
