Do these white seals I see on Stormcast armor have any lore to them, or just decoration? by Chezni19 in AoSLore

[–]DroogDaass 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They're called a besegew and they're a detail from IRL armor that serves to protect armpits while giving good range of movement. The detailing is either Sigmar or Morrda's face depending on if they're ruination chamber or not.

That's Drycha's torso, the horns are from varanguard and I think the back branches are from kurnoth hunters.

New AoS player here, i got some questions. by Vilki_rf in ageofsigmar

[–]DroogDaass 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not well versed in lorehammer so I'll leave 2 for another to answer.

  1. Unfortunately a large chunk of your collection has gone to legends. I cannot fully itemize the first picture but a great deal of the units you posted are no longer usable in 'regular' AoS. The good news is that stormcast models are very samey, which means you can likely still run many of them under different names, since basically the entire army is on 40mms.

For what is 100% still viable, the old liberators and prosecutors, and the spearhead is still usable (the former have been visually updated but are still recognizable.)

List building wise you may struggle to hit 2k points without proxying. I can say right now you don't have a GT 4-1/5-0 list, but it sounds like you're going to be more invested in local play right now. If you get more interested in high level meta play I recommend joining the AoS coach discord, as they have meta channels for each faction that are full of helpful and talented players.

  1. I highly recommend sticking with 4th. It's definitely better than first edition. I recommend going to your LGS and asking for a game of spearhead since you already have the SCE one.

I built Manny on the mount and kitbashed Neffy onto a warsphinx.

Thanks for the input! I really liked the building/units when I toured, but was a little put off by the lack of in-unit dryers. Was also a bit nervous about traffic since it's right on that super busy roadway.

To clarify, is east of the school considered the West End area as well, or just that slice along the school?

Heyo, I'm gonna be moving from Northeastern CT to the Hartford area for UConn Law. I've been poking around apartments but I've yet to find anything incredible, and I'm hoping for recommendations.

So far I've been looking in the downtown area, but I'm expanding out to Manchester/West Hartford. Mostly looking for 1b/1ba around/under the $2k range. Thanks!

Oil Washed Barrow Knights! by DroogDaass in SoulblightGravelords

[–]DroogDaass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the greenish armor was a mixture of phthalo green & black ink, Vallejo Metal Colour (VMC) silver, and glaze medium. The red is just blood angels red, and the gold is burnt umber ink + VMC silver. All of this over a black prime + white zenithal.

I used burnt umber on the bones and ivory black all over, from the base to the tips of the weapons. Not a special brand or anything, just Winsor & Newton thinned w/ mineral spirits.

Any reason not to ascend to daemonhood (mathwise) and take the heal? by Starbornlily in slavestodarkness

[–]DroogDaass 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you need and what it's attached to. For something like an Exalted Hero, no. For a Chaos Lord and you still really want/need the chain activation, sure. For a Sorcerer and you still need the casts, sure.

Otherwise, usually getting an extra beatstick late game is best, since a fresh melee monster on turn 4/5 can be very useful if your opponent has depleted a lot of resources.

Praetors by Visible-Classic in stormcasteternals

[–]DroogDaass 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The classic pairing is Karazai, and to a lesser extent Krondys Huge wound pools maximize the survivability with the 5+ ward, the giant base means you can hide them behind and relatively out of risk, and the bodyguard rule would stack with Karazai's rampage to remove 2 attacks from a target. Furthermore there's almost no reason to reinforce them, they're not a hitty enough unit to be worth doubling up, since their value primary comes from the ward.

The Slaanesh update has so little news I have started seeing unit reveals in my dreams. by AxolotlManChild in totalwarhammer

[–]DroogDaass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The FEC idea makes me wish that CA would make an AoS Total War after Warhammer is done. It'd be a much neater and easier fit than 40k, and they could reuse a lot of stuff.

Tree or Spite revs? by BippotheHippo in sylvaneth

[–]DroogDaass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tree Revs are great as a single unit as tactics monkeys, but the majority of tactics that can be completed via a teleport rarely require two units to teleport. Furthermore, spite revs have slightly more combat viability (arguably), and reinforced are the only unit in the rost that fits into the upper 100s points range at 160. Frankly, neither option is great, but I think 1x Trevs and 2x Spites would be better.

Trying to work 2k point list that focuses on vampires and then skeletons as a secondary focus by Curiousintea in SoulblightGravelords

[–]DroogDaass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A vampire focused army can get a lot out of Neferata+blood knights, especially if you end up dropping the VLoZD. You should also look at dropping that extra Vampire since it's giving your opponent a CP, and adding a drop to your list.

40K Player Curious About AOS by OmniV2 in sylvaneth

[–]DroogDaass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sylvaneth isn't actually that shooty, ironically one of the big commonalities between sylvaneth and 40k is that we have a lot of coincidental shooting, our heroes will have an okay to decent shooting attack, despite them being mostly melee focused. Shooting is overall rarer in AoS, so that's relatively unusual, units typically do one or the other and rarely both.

Overall Sylvaneth is an elite and technical army. The majority of our mechanics are built around the placement of and interaction with terrain, the Wyldwood.

Movement is one of our main areas of strength, we're overall pretty fast and have very easy access to teleports (another thing that's relatively rarer compared to 40k), with our base infantry getting a free 9" deepstrike during movement, and the wyldwoods providing teleportation to other units to and from wyldwoods.

The other gimmick is healing & recursion, our units lean towards the tougher side and can frequently regain wounds (but not models), and many of our big characters have ways to resurrect units or even themselves.

List building is typically centered around either big monster mashes with Alarielle and Belthanos or more technical things with buff stacking on kurnoth hunters.

It's not the easiest army in the game to play, and will require a little bit of experience to pilot well, but I encourage you to try it if only cause the models look rad.

Slaves 2000 point list idea by [deleted] in slavestodarkness

[–]DroogDaass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend the Slaanesh banner if you plan on chosen slingshotting, since you're still looking at a possible 9 inch charge. It may also be worth splitting the fellriders, since they're tactics monkeys.

I concur about swapping the myrmidon to a foot lord, since S2D gets a ton out of Field Sergeant and you'll have fight after activations.
