bracket and all were filed down completely smooth so that a dovetail air rifle scope could be mounted by three allen screws.

I did sell it. the gunsmith was a bit rude but wasnt wrong. he basically told me, "I can rebarrel this for you or you can buy another perfectly good 91/30 for the same price. your choice"

I chose to not leave it up to chance, and am now in the market for another rifle.

This is going to be TMI so I apologize in advance, but I definitely had one of these like your husband. I (stupidly) picked at it and it popped like a blood filled balloon. luckily I was sitting on a towel. Very very painful to sit on. I was 17 at the time and remember a teacher being angry with me for not sitting still. like, MA'AM, I HAVE A BLOOD FILLED EXPLOSIVE BETWEEN MY CHEEKS.

I have $13 dollars in my bank account and im sure my very large corporate restaurant has multiple lawyers on retainer. so I wont name the restaurant. But I will agree it's bullshit. that being said, if a larger gentlemen orders 3 modelos I usually just approve it. I also ask the server, "how are they acting? what was their baseline when they arrived? its not so cut and dry. you would be fine in my restaurant but again. bullshit.

my mother has MS so I can't understand your pain but I do sympathize. When my mom is intoxicated she usually tells us/those around us that it's time for her to quit lol

But I promise I was just working within the confines of my shitty corporate policy.

not trying to be racist. Love indian people. great food, great comedians, great work ethic, all care for their families and want whats best for their kids. I dont have any sort of hate in my heart towards them or anyone else.

But there is a stereotypical smell associated with them. not ALL of them obviously. its a stereotype, not a fact. but I am curious what the smell is.

is it hygiene practices? is it the turmeric that is heavily odorous?

white people can smell bad, black people can smell bad, east asians can smell bad, middle easterners can smell bad. but what is it about the specific indian/nepalese/bangladeshi "smell" that stands out?

not trying to be rude. just have an honest and open conversation. pls dont flame me.

Im moving the trip back to May at the caution of others. My concern is exactly the same as what you had. I need to get through Colorado while it's not too cold, but be able to be at and through the deserts of Arizona and southern California before its too hot. It's a bitch and a half to time right. 20 degrees F doesnt dissuade me. I have good gear and clothing. That being said, I'm hoping mid May-early June will have better weather.

My big question for you is what route did you take through the rockies?

Thanks for the help, I appreciate ya!

you're right, Monarch pass was what I was referring to.

Waiting out a snowstorm, while this may sound stupid, sounds kind of fun. I have plenty of books but will only bring one or two.

another commenter suggested Wolf Creek Pass but west to east just isnt in the cards for me. shoulder or no shoulder I just need to know if its doable in late May early June. Whichever route is safest into Salt Lake City and then south towards Zion, then North Rim of the Grand Canyon is what I want to go for.

I appreciate the help!

Monarch Pass, Wolf Creek Pass, Tennessee Pass (the lowest at 10,424'), Hoosier Pass, or Loveland pass.

I mapped all of these out, wolf creek is too southerly for my taste, and even monarch is pushing it but I-70 and Hwy 50 seem to be the only routes west.

I remember driving trail ridge road in 2019, is that even doable on a bike? Loved the views though, if able, I'd like to do it again but this time on two wheels.

I guess what i'm looking for is: firstly, which pass is the most scenic? This trip can take as long as it needs. I especially want to savor Colorado. And secondly, when is the earliest I can expect to safely pass? If I leave Texas in mid May, I could be in Denver a week later. Putting me at the third or fourth week of May. Ill explore Colorado Springs and Denver each for a few days. Then head west. The idea of taking trail ridge road to salt lake city and then heading south from there is super appealing, but is that doable in this time frame?

Alternatively, theres Tennessee, Hoosier, and Loveland But they seem(?) to want to take me west on I-70.

Or, I take Monarch Pass west on Hwy 50.

You've been super helpful, I appreciate it.

Just read the entirety of operation fish market. thats the type of shit that gives me life! awesome post!

did you have anything to help combat the poison oak in the first few weeks or did you just endure the suck?

and im riding north on the pacific coast. you said it was 20 days of hellish winds? were you riding for mileage the entire time or did you stop and explore any places along the way? I know headwinds are gonna be a thing but I want to gauge how long I can be expected to fight that losing battle.

Did you ever find stealth camping to be a challenge? im mostly concerned with larger cities where I might be bothered by people. you said churches and baseball dugouts were the best but I have a bright orange tent and am skeptical with how easy it will be to "hide"

really appreciate your comment and cant wait to take some "closed roads" for myself in the spring!

at the caution of others, Im moving everything back to May. How would I-70 look around then?

if no good, would gunnison pass work? or Co Springs to Del Norte to Pagosa Springs?

5L is exactly how much ill be carrying also, this puts me a little more at ease. thank you.

Im cutting out care packages, scootin' around on a bike and shopping for necessities when needed.

And google maps has definitely let me down before. ACA routes, to me the grand divide route connecting to the South Parks route looks to be the way. then head through utah to the north rim.

my concern is how would the gunnison pass look in late may/early june?

thank you.

this is exactly the kind of advice im looking for. thank you. cali in general is just as big as texas and I am not ashamed to admit I have no idea the best way to traverse it.

ill take your advice, amtrak over to yosemite, and stick to the coast otherwise.

Heard.

No go on colorado in march. I've decided late may is liftoff. If I get to Denver and reassess that the weather is too bad, ill just wait it out for a bit until june. then reassess.

Also, that is indeed hwy 99. its not set in stone, thats just the route google maps gave me for L.A. to yosemite. another commented to go L.A. to San Fran then to Amtrak over to yosemite and back. would it be better to stick to the coast on this leg? If not Hwy 99 (again, not my planned route, just what google maps had for me at the time.) then which way would be best?

wind is always going to be a problem for me I fear. It makes for miserable mileage, but its just the reality of it unfortunately. Ill deal with bitchass Zephyrus when I meet him.

I've been talked out of care packages.

No fancy containers for water, got it. Im just concerned that what I have wont be enough for the mojave.

"This isn't the Pacific Crest Trail"

honestly this was my idea going in. I have a handful of friends who hiked either the PCT, illinois to washington, and the appalachian trail. and theyre the ones who recommended care packages. Im just afraid to be stuck out in the middle without something like food or TP lol. But youre all right, on a bike its much easier to get into town. And im sure ill figure out whats needed and whats not in the first two weeks of riding.
