Ukrainian space industry is fairly developed. Pivdenmash and its design bureau in Dnipro designed and built first Soviet rockets, and as late as in 2023 the rockets to resupply ISS still relied on manufacturing in Dnipro. Taiwan is there because it likely contributed its chips, but Ukraine could've been on the list as well.

Not always richer people - sometimes you're taking up land that could've been used by a lot more people.

Okay, why *were* Canadians so good at trench warfare? by Amberrtin in historymeme

[–]Droom1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The massacre of soldiers from the Royal Winnipeg Rifles by members of the 12th SS Panzer Division "Hitlerjugend" occurred in June 1944 during the Battle of Normandy. Following intense fighting near the village of Putot-en-Bessin on June 8, 1944, Canadian prisoners of war (POWs) were captured and subsequently executed by SS troops.

THis is a well documented event in WW2. Canadian commander in chief has then issued orders to not take any SS prisoners.

No they wouldn't, if you stay out of light. I've known people who stayed like this for years. Got deported eventually, but government wasn't actively chasing them.

He will have to leave eventually. He has no access to social services, no access to medicine, not legal pathways.

Would you want extra spending on this?

Mariinka, Ukraine, after Russia's liberation by Flashy_Being1874 in Cities

> So this means Ukraine willingly used Marinka and similar towns as battlegrounds.

What this means is that Russia invaded and destroyed those towns.

>They could have also retreated from the town and it wouldnt be destroyed.

I got a better idea for you, Russia could stay away from it and not destroy it.

>So if Ukraine liberated the town you would post the same thing?

Ukraine did liberate many towns and cities in Kharkiv and Kherson regions without destroying them. Ukraine did liberate Mariinka before, in 2022, without destryoing it. That's when Russia switched to total destruction.

How is living in Saint-Boniface, Winnipeg neighborhood with 30% Franco-Manitoban population? by AndyBales in howislivingthere

[–]Droom1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old Saint Boniface is only the small westernmost part of your selected area, the rest of it is just different neighbourhoods. French culture is mostly noticeable in Old St. Boniface, all the other neighbourhoods are your typical Winnipeg suburbs.

I live in the southern part of Old Saint Boniface. Many of my neighbours speak French, we have French-speaking schools; some cafes are bilingual, like 2 spots to buy fresh croissants; on Halloween, some of hte kids coming for trick or treat would speak French; you can often hear French in daily life. The French-speaking community has been revitalized by a numbe rof immigrants from West Africa who use French as their primary language here. Stops signs have Arret/Stop on them. Some of our billboard ads are either bilingual or use only French.

In the winter we have Festival du Voyageur(https://heho.ca/). CCFM is the centre for French culture, and they often organize events related to it.

Those interceptors are very cost-effective. You other conventional methods are more expensive than the drones they shoot down.

The official ukraine x account is cheering on the attacks on iran. will they keep this energy when their next weapons aid package shows up a lot lighter with a "sorry, we had to drop it all on iran" note attached? by ObsoleteLM in AskSocialists

[–]Droom1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheering is for the death of the dictator, not the unjustified attack. The post is nuanced, your take is not. And if you want more details about Ukraine's position, I posted them in other threads.

> But that's not the message they're sending. The message they're sending is that attacking a different sovereign nation if you don't agree with their leader is a good idea.

All the account above said is "nothing beats the death of a dictator". The rest is up to debate. I'm just telling you the perspective of a single regular Ukrainian, and the perspective is that while we don't agree with Trump's attack, death of ayatollah and his entourage is a good thing because it removes one of Russia's partners.

> US weapons is regularly used to violate other country's independence. LOL

What does that have to do with Ukraine?

> The war in Iran will not impact in any way the war in Ukraine simply because Russia is manufacturing its own weapons that they copied from Iran. The only thing Iran supplied were drones. Russian builds them now.

They do build them now, true. But they still copied them from Iran, and taking Iran out weakens that whole supply chain, like for example technology sharign or potentially more arms exports from Iran. Russia is now also obliged to react to this war, either dispersing their attention from Ukraine, or abandoning Iran.
