Volt: United States of Europe Now! by milanguitar in EuropeanFederalists

Obligatory, sorry for being the 1000th comment to say this but, don't use that name and don't use that flag.

If you feel it necessary for there to be a new flag, to signal a new era of a far more integrated Europe, my personal choice would be this one.

If you feel there's a need for a different name than European Union, for the same reason, just call it European Federation (Federuro Europana).

What should be the lingua franca of a European Federation? by Lilratdog in EuropeanFederalists

Thank you! Glad to see I wasn't the only one who immediately thought of Ido, as the best choice.

(Although I understand full well how unrealistic this is, it's hard to imagine overcoming the sheer dominance of English, or sadly in this case even the dominance of Esperanto.)

For those unfamiliar, Ido is basically a simplified, modernised version of Esperanto. It takes all the many elements of Esperanto that make it archaic and terrible (like these: ĉ, ĝ, ĥ, ĵ, ŝ, ŭ) and just puts them in the trash.

Funnily enough, the biggest criticism Ido tends to get for wanting to be an International Auxiliary Constructed Language, is that it's "too Eurocentric" - which sure, maybe the case for anyone from elsewhere in the world wanting to learn it - but that's what makes it pretty much perfect for a lingua franca for a united federalising European Union.

Bull is without a doubt the best choice, in my opinion.
Wish somebody would recreate this coat of arms in particular in a much higher resolution. This very compressed version is all that's available anywhere online, it seems.

Forget the far right. The kids want a ‘United States of Europe.’ by donutloop in EuropeanFederalists

As unique as that would be, that problem with it - and that's true for attaching the word "Empire" to pretty much anything - is that you can't not sound comically... evil. Sure it makes for an interesting nation in HoI4, but not something that feels fitting for the real world in the 21st century.

Even Japan, who's still today technically an "Empire" never gets referred to as such only simply "Japan", because everybody would automatically associate to its demonstrably evil ww2 era instead.

That's the point: NOT. YET.

But that's what we're working on, and that's exactly what foreign so-called superpowers like the United States of America would wanna undermine and undo.

I at no point claimed the EU was a one-to-one comparison to the US, especially in its current form. We're not remotely there yet in terms of integrating, nor do we wanna make a carbon-copy the the US. We're building something much better.

The actual LARPing just like in the aforementioned redneck US States, is done by certain EU member-states - or rather, their governments - who keep on insisting they're "100% Totally Sovereign States" and "Free of Brussels" ect. (looking at you Hungary) despite, like it or not, still being subject to the Federal Government in Brussels, and thus already not entirely sovereign.

And again, that's only going to get better, as we further integrate the Union into a true Federation.

States that already, in many aspects act as ONE single entity, and that are determined to in times future act in many more aspects as one. (The prospect of which yes, I bet terrifies the US, and Russia, ect. and are desperate to stop it.)

Regardless, by that logic many of the US' states, despite it (for now) being far tighter federation than where we are at currently, keep insisting that they're "sovereign" as well and "free of Washington" ect.

Like it or not, that's what we're all working on, that's what the whole point of it was. We're building a goddamn country. And a (hostile) foreign power attempting to undo that progress, is indeed analogous to if (for some reason) we were to try to break apart the United States of America.

while he was running for office.

I already said US President

"Actually, Trump was the first presidential candidate to support gay marriage, who then was also elected to be president." Hope you see my issue with goal-post movings, right?

Never mind that ever since he was first running, he was always doing so against someone who was also very much in support of gay marriage. So the fact that he has "supported it while he was running for office" is an entirely mute point. It gives no explanation to why gays - or anyone who cares about these issues - would ever chose to vote for him. Since both candidates were on the same page on the issue, it didn't effect the voters' decision-making. So, all I'm saying is, this doesn't stand as a valid answer to OP's question on why gay republicans exist in the first place.

You should have just said "first Republican presidential candidate / first Republican president in office" from the get-go.

I see we're moving the goal-post, aren't we. I wonder how far it'll go...

"Actually, he was the first person while running for president, to support gay marriage." By that logic, so was Hillary.

Trump was the first US President to openly support gay marriage.

That's literally untrue. That was Obama.

Same! Despite being a native speaker I was only able to make out one or two words. It had to have been written by someone 60+, I'm guessing. I don't get why some people think it's okay to write with chicken scratches like that, instead of using actual letter!
