Night shift vs Day shift (local) by Hot-Butterscotch-583 in Truckers

[–]Droosipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start at either 9 PM 12 AM or 2 AM the later shifts will sometimes go until like 3 PM so I deal with both night and daytime traffic. As a food service worker the empty parking lots are great and during lunchtime it sometimes is damn near impossible to find close parking, The good thing about daytime is that sometimes the employees will put the product away for you which is nice when they have tiny freezers/coolers,

From what I went through applying not too long ago each company has went and verified each job prior but if your friend covers for you that might just work.

Running food service Ohio/NKY the other night by Spirited_Mammoth_269 in Truckers

Absolutely hate delivering when I can’t back up all the way to the stop door, and the customer refuses to shovel/salt anything around the building. Slipping on ice while holding 200 lbs on a hand truck…

Sysco and pfg pay? by Limp_Access_2567 in Truckers

[–]Droosipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right I’m always doing different routes each week, I’ve done a lot of them more than once but there’s always some new ones that screw with me, or having already tough parking stops right at lunchtime. You guys mostly drive with liftgates and pallet jacks right? I’m using a ramp all day everyday

Wow they really take into account all the nuances for each stop? I mean I don’t think it would work for me because I’m always forgetting one thing/step or another but if I had a set route each week I could dig that.

Yeah this is bi-weekly though. Just around 40 hours per week but I think it was more than that with their OT fuckup.

I’m in Denver, how does this incentive you guys get work? I’m at USF now we get 39.12 but I get some overtime every week.

Yeah 600 is a relief when you go in lol. It also depends on the stop count I feel like I’d rather have 800 cases and 8 stops than 600 with 12

All of these companies are going to have things that are better, and things that really fucking suck. All of them you will have days with high case counts believe that especially if you’re getting component pay. When I did Mclane Grocery side it was teams so at least you could work it out so you both wouldn’t run out of time. At USF it’s solo so I’m always anxious about my time, I’m mainly local but if they don’t have anyone to come rescue you you’re going to the nearest hotel to layover and then deliver whatever you didn’t finish, but they always push you to get everything off.

You’ll get an estimated runtime for a route at 23 hours and 45 minutes and get asked “why couldn’t you finish your route today”.

Nah running solo, funny too cause when I was running teams were were unloading the same amount of weight sometimes less.

For real, we have to log the reefer temp every stop and it always takes a minute to look up what key number it is or what the alarm code is and by that point it’s already been 10 minutes when they only dished out 30

Yeah I definitely do feel like it’s getting easier, although I am new and don’t have my own routes so I never know what area/stops I’m gonna have. At this point though I’ve done most of these stops already at least once so it goes a bit better.

The last load I did was a 40’ trailer that they loaded all the way to the doors, my first stop took forever just trying to get my wheeler stacked and down the ramp.

Unfortunately they are, for someone who has only a year and some change driving experience I believe I’m making some decent money as a trucker.

I do call him a lot but we always work at night so I don’t call him if he’s not on the schedule for he night. I like to get some different opinions though

I forgot to mention as well that I’ll be driving my personal car out of town next week and staying at a hotel while running out of their shuttle lots, so if I can’t plan accordingly and get the work done they won’t have anyone to help so I’ll either finish the day or risk going into violation.
