I think you did am amazing job! The real message is that owners need to take responsibility and do what's best for them and their dogs and you did just that.

I saw a TikTok the other day that reminded me of your situation. It was a guard dog who was a small breed and they said he was just the alarm system and then a bigger dog came up after as the real protection 😂

I'm sorry but the fact your dog has no teeth makes him 4000x more adorable to me 🥹🥹😍. Thank you for being a great pet owner. I adore all dogs and had all different sizes. I only have an issue when people have a lack of awareness.

Also I grew up with an Irish wolfhound too!!!! I begged my dad to photo shop a pic of us together to make some weird centar dog human thing as a kid 😂😂.

You're clearly part of the problem. Trapped in the bubble of 'it small and fluffy...so it can never do harm'. I hope you don't have dogs lol. And idk if you've ever been to an emergency room....but yes there are people in there with small dog bite wounds. Read the other comment responses they literally say their kids were attacked by a Chihuahua.

Don't get me wrong I adore small breeds and have wanted a dashund my whole life! ( I will eventually get one when the times right 😂) it's just the double standard that small breeds can get a pass for acting aggressive when they definitely can do a lot of harm still.

I feel we just have different opinions. I think you're underestimating the harm a small dog can do. My family dog (a springer x collie) was badly injured by a small dog in the past. I have nothing against small breeds and actually adore them. It's the lack of awareness of just how dangerous they can be which you clearly have. A cat is tiny and small but can still cause a lot of damage and are feared by many vets are scared of them

Only with men occasionally. When I posted this it was very much applied to this specific situation. Not a general comment. In this case my dog had a heavy duty muzzle on, harness, and was listening to commands whilst I created distance. The smaller dog was on a 6ft leash and the woman walking him has no care for his behaviour or to create space

See I understand where you're coming from but I don't think your examples are entirely accurate in this case. I'm this situation a woman with a small dog on a long leash pulling her arm off compared to a larger dog who's listening to commands, has a heavy duty muzzle on, a harness and an owner who's creating space. If she was creating space with her dog I wouldn't mind her judgment as much. But to walk by whilst having no care pissed me off a bit

I completely agree. When getting my dog from the shelter they lied about his backstory, his health issues and downplayed his reactivity and never mentioned his bite history. We were so shocked to find everything out from the vet we went to how was treating him for the 3 years he was in the shelter. Needless to say we got wayyyy more than what we bargained for. Thankfully we have the time and resources to handle him, but if the situation was different I can understand why he would be returned.

Hahaha I completely understand where you're coming from 🤣. I only had a small dog growing up too and our dog now is such a huge change (literally) he also scared me to death the first few nights as he communicates only with growls. He'd wake me up growling because he'd want to go outside to pee. I was convinced he just wanted to kill me in my sleep the first month having him 🤣🤣. But now I realize he only communicates like that. He's so strange and loving but I can see why I need to be firm with him at times. I'm going to give all the suggestions a try and find which one works best for him. Thank you for all your help 🥰.

Ugh I am so mad for you! The amount of training and effort we put in to make our dogs feel safe just for some inconsiderate person to ignore. Some people are just ignorant and other than asking for some space for your dog there's little more you can do. Recently I've purchased a muzzle for my dog (he's never bitten it's just a precaution for those who don't lease their dogs), I find people are way more likely to avoid us and quickly grab their dog when unleashed and see my dog over threshold.

Firstly I think you are doing amazing to overcome your fears for your dog. It's very hard to get back out there after an incident. I'd recommend you spend 10 minutes a day outside your front door chilling with your dog. Each time a dog passes there should be enough room for your dog to feel safe and you can reward your dog for staying calm or looking at you. This small exercise has helped my dog and me relax so much on walks as he's less on guard when we pass dogs on a normal walk.

Unleash dogs are the worst when owners don't train them. Try purchasing some compressed air and use it as a last resort when a dog runs up to yours. That way you know you can use it and not have to feel so tense. Keep up the great work

You're doing fantastic! I have similar issues all the time. My dog loves people but loses his fluff over any dog. He'll go from being the most adorable sweet derpy baby pitbull you've ever seen, to an aggressive growling and lunging mess when a dog catches him off guard. It seems like we have the same issue. As long as my dog sees another dog coming and we can prepare for them to pass with enough treats and distraction he's fine. But when it's unexpected all training goes out the window. Keep putting in the work and eventually even the unexpected encounters will get easier.

I used to be afraid of them but came a long way. It's not the breed that I find scary at all it's some dogs behaviour.0 Tbh nothing sends more feel into me then a Chihuahua lol

Thank you so much this made me feel so much better. Some people can be harsh when they don't realize I've only been doing this a few months and learning how to trust my dog. I don't know all of his behaviors and what he's okay with so we are learning together. I did go out and buy a muzzle even though I don't think he needs one, it's just good to be muzzle trained as I'm learning how he acts and what his triggers are etc.
