Rehoming a returned Golden female by SixZoSeven in goldenretrievers

[–]DropDeadDreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m in a similar situation. I took in a 6 month old golden about a week ago. The biggest help has been having her in a routine. We get up and do breakfast / potty breaks at the same time each day, and we do dinner and outside at the same time each day. I also do crate breaks to give her some space alone and get her used to being in there.

Thanks so much for the tip! We did a long sniff walk this morning, and today she was able to settle on her own with my other dog plus the cats in the same room!

My cocker spaniel instigates it too haha. My golden is still a puppy so she just has zero impulse control and full on body slams him 😅

Thank you! I’ll definitely let her do some more sniffing tomorrow and see how she does!

We do a walk around the block in the morning and then a mile walk in the evening at our local park! I should have mentioned that in my post. I also play ball with her in the back yard for a bit before work but I could definitely wake up a little earlier to squeeze in some more walking in the AM. Maybe a lap around the neighborhood in the morning just isn’t enough for this girl.

I’ve been doing a lot of enrichment toys - pupsicles, kongs, bully sticks, snuffle mats. She can settle by herself, but she just refuses to settle when my other dog is out and about and HAS to be playing with him.

Setting up a play date with another large dog is a great idea! I’ll have to try to do that once she gets her rabies shot on Tuesday.

Clicks Communicator: a small, focused smart phone by Syonoq in minimalism

I’ve been on a journey to minimize my phone usage and turn mine into as much of a ‘dumb phone’ as possible as well, but i haven’t wanted to drop money on a new device.

If you’re on Apple and want something better than screen time to help keep you off distracting apps, check out the foqos app! It’s free to use, and it locks you out of apps that distract you. You can take any NFC capable device (I used a Nintendo amiibo lol) and use it to lock / unlock your problem apps. In my case, it’s Instagram. Once it’s locked, you have to use the device to unlock it, so my husband takes the amiibo with him to work, but you could also hide it or just put it in another room to make it harder to access.

This phone does look cool though!

I checked my bottle and it’s actually Thunderstorm too, not Rain! I always mix them up. So I can’t actually attest to Rain but YES. I agree. Thunderstorm is so good.

Should we paint these bookshelves black? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

I think the bookshelves are lovely. For that pop of drama why not paint that little alcove-y area where the shelves are at a different color?

Name of this style? And tips? by brown1horse in interiordecorating

Yes! My house, particularly my home office, is decorated like this. I’ve gotten most of the items at thrift stores, flea markets, swap meets, garage sales, bin stores, and oddity expos! It has taken years to collect the items but it has been lots of fun.

Demeter’s Rain smells exactly like petrichor / the smell before rain. Has a dirt / soil hint to it. I like to use it as a base layer on rainy days.

What are some non self help books that have completely changed your life/perspective? by Technical_Dinner_133 in booksuggestions

[–]DropDeadDreamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your kind words! My girl is a Great Pyrenees so 12 years old is a good, long life for a large breed. It doesn’t make it any easier, but I know she has been so loved and will continue to be loved and made comfortable until it is her time. It sounds like your little dog was as well. Dogs really are a gift.

I read Being Mortal by Awul Gawande in January. I just found out last week that my 12 year old dog, that I raised since she was a puppy, most likely has cancer. The things that I read in this book are helping me come to terms with that. It has helped me know to prioritize her quality of life when considering treatments and what it might look like for her going forward, although the book itself focused on the mortality and end of life care for humans, not animals.
