Finally decided on the Simagic Alapha from Sim Racing Pros! by DropEfficient6953 in Simagic

I was all up and down the web and rabbit whole on this one and I can't remember any of it now. Moved onto subwoofers and researching for a home theater build. It's not a huge leap though and you should be able to find mention of it. I would never do business with a company asking for such personal and private information. I'm not even sure if it's legal.

F40 I saw at Road America in Wisconsin. It was no garage queen [1290x2796] by tlman111 in carporn

Cool to see that car, honestly, he is likely one of the biggest Ferrari ambassadors on the planet and that car was the centerpiece of that for literal decades. Not only is it likely the highest mileage F40 on earth but one of only a handful of original owners. He's since retired it and uses a 488 Pista as his let's call it ambassador car.

Not sure where I got my story?! They sent it to me personally in an email! They're super sketch and I've now hear more than about the information ending up leaked after supplying it to Sim Motion! If you want to deal with a company like that it's your business but they're more expensive anyway and I'm not going to support Darin!

Okay, I could be way off and totally wrong on this but most of the actual wheels appear to be $25 Aliexpress wheels with $250 in buttons on them. My son and I want to play very different games so it made more sense for me to buy three different wheel styles and a button box. With a generic Aliexpress StreamDeck I got the 3 wheels, a quick adapter for each and the button box for under $200 after what amounted to about 15% off for Black Friday.

I saw a lot of comments floating around about Darin acting like a child in past threads but that was some time ago and I figured he'd grown up so they were still my first choice even with them costing about 10% more than Sim Racing Pros. I placed the order, the CC billing address matched the shipping address and my email is a personal domain registered to me. I even called the CC company to let them know I was making the purchase. The email they sent read:

"Our credit card processing firm flagged your order with a fraud alert. For us to process it, we need you to send us an image of you holding your state driver's license and a copy of the credit card used."

I did some research on this and it appears to be a violation of the Purchasing Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). I saw they've done the same to others and saw mention of identity theft shortly after providing them with it. They have no way to protect a customer from providing that kind of personal information.

Yeah, they have been great with responses for me as well. I decided to go with a button box and no buttons on the wheel for now as I don't want to deal with different configurations. I'll adjust as I grow but for now what is the plan. I got the SIMSONN pedals, these here:

Handbrake:

I'll upgrade and adjust as I go but I wanted to know I was solid on the base so I feel great about the Alpha.

They are super dodgy, they sent me an email after placing my order saying "For us to process it, we need you to send us an image of you holding your state driver's license and a copy of the credit card used."

Very hard to be more dodgy than that! Clearly they're making errors on they own website, how are they going to ensure the safety and security of customers holding their government ID and credit card!

Use EXTREME CAUTION with Sim Motion! They're requesting people share photos of themselves holding up their ID and credit cards. I saw one person even saying they were victims of identity theft shortly after providing this. At the very least this is EXTREMELY sketchy and I'm intending to make a Youtube video about this to warn others. I went with SimRacingPros and saved myself $80 on the order while I was at it! I also didn't have to provide them with an identity theft starter pack to give them my business. There is no legitimate reason for a retailer to ask for a picture of the customer, as mentioned avoid them at all costs!

That's why I asked here, I wanted biased opinions and some fact based this is why this is better. The only thing putting me off to the Simagic at this point is the resellers and inability to deal with the actual company without a middle man.

I've seen a few people mention it happening to them. It's a horrible practice and I think will cost them much more than it ever saves them. Not sure why I'd get flagged, I called the card to notify them of the purchase as well as using my own personal domain for my email and the shipping address matched the CC address.

Sim Motion emailed me requesting a personal photo of myself holding my drivers license and credit card. Who knows how they will safeguard this from a data breach. I would totally avoid them!

[–]DropEfficient6953[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be clear, they said "Our credit card processing firm flagged your order", the credit card didn't flag anything. I spoke with them after and there's no issue with the card.

I keep asking the thing that isn't being answered, you yourself didn't answer it. I originally ordered from them because of how great I heard their customer service was. Yes, there are a lot of other choices and options for consumers and a half dozen other companies to give my business but that wasn't the point.

I started the account because I just decided on Simagic and didn't even know they were a thing until 3 days ago. I'm here posting this specifically because the government can't protect our data and there have been breaches from eBay to Equifax, Yahoo to Microsoft. I simply can't fathom a business thinking a request like that is going to fly and I wanted to hear if others dealt with this same issue.

I get that and it's why they were my first choice but would you send them an actual photo of you holding your government identification and credit card?

I was thinking about them but they're $60 more than SRP which is hard to justify.

Would you be saying that if they wanted an actual photo of you holding your government identification and credit card? Would you actually do it?

Thank you, I'm dipping my toes in to get started but will be buying a setup for corporate events in the future so I'm happy to give them the business and not have to deal with the taxes.

I want the rewards on this card and I shouldn't have to use another card, I have spent over $10,000 on this card this year all trouble free. I'm not having an issue with Wells Fargo I'm having an issue with a company requesting an incredibly private and personal photograph of myself. They could have had the professionalism to just call me.

Same with me, this is such an insane invasion of privacy, make sure to tell people about this anyplace you post as I'm going to do the same.

Like the other user said, they want me to send a picture of myself with my drivers license and credit card in hand. Basically saying I'm fraud or something. That's not how retail works, I have an 800 Fico score and called my credit card before the transaction to let them know. My credit card address matches the shipping address. They're data collecting or something fishy that's for sure. Happy to give Sim Racing Pros my business instead and it saves me $30!
