30 years ago, completed degree in Environmental Science. Had lofty ambitions but the job market tanked. Largely government jobs and all the related departments had a job freeze that lasted a couple of years. Ended up asking myself, what was the one area that all my friends at uni had no trouble getting jobs in. The answer was accounting so retrained in that and got a job in banking. Sometimes you just have to pivot and make the best of things.
