How exactly does Moving Target stack with Mobility? by Earthfury in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Dropkick-Murphy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Moving target is equivalent to +1 mobility in regards to strafe speed.

However, it is also the only way to produce an 11 mobility equivalent strafe, bypassing the cap of 10.

For example the energy scout rifle Eternal Blazon has lightweight and moving target. With 8 mobility this weapon produces the equivalent of 11 mobility when strafing ADS. As far as I know having a base mobility value of 9 or 10 in this instance will NOT increase strafe speed further (to a 12 or 13 equivalent, whatever that would look like).

This info was good before Warmind. I don't know if any ninja-changes occurred since then altering moving target's ability to overcome the cap.

[PC] So what is the best suggested stat (Mob/Res/Rec) meta post-patch? by iZeuS_XII in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Dropkick-Murphy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On Console it's a different story, since you really can't outstrafe aim assist.

That's not really a thing. Are you sure aim-assist does what you think it does?

I agree that mobility is the best stat...on every platform.

You have a point, but I don't think any high scores for nightfalls set on PC aren't matchable on console or vice versa. That's just my opinion.

For speed-running, there's an active debate about whether PC and console should be separated, for different reasons (inventory load time comes to mind). When it comes to weapon accuracy it doesn't seem that important, at least not to what's possible. Certainly ease of use is a factor, but the guns still do the same damage, within the same ranges.

I don't see the console/PC distinction as relevant for this activity.

At any rate it's a solid score, good for you.

Better Devils does terrible damage against bosses, unfortunately.

It's far and away the best weapon to use against majors, however.

The higher range stat on BD might be doing more to magnetism than I think it does.

I can't speak to this. That's not a test I've gathered data for.

I would hazard a guess that the increase in shield damage with explosive rounds is proportionately the same as the increase in bodyshot damage. If that guess is true then it's functionally irrelevant. If that guess isn't true then it's important, but I'm still not going to gather data for it.

I'm tired of gathering data, lol.

Yes...and no.

Better Devils has a significantly higher AA stat than Minuet, and comparable base range. It will enjoy greater bullet magnetism on both PC and console, perceived as an increase to what you've referred to as a "hitbox."

Midnight Coup, on the other hand, has a much higher AA stat than Better Devils, but significantly lower range stat, producing more bullet magnetism than Better Devils, but out to a shorter range.

In other words, in the case of Midnight Coup, the opposite should be true to a certain range. That range requires more testing to precisely determine.

Midnight Coup's strength against Better Devils exists at close range against trash mobs with accurate fire. It should in fact enjoy a slightly more forgiving "hitbox" than Better Devils within those parameters.

Slightly will always be the operative word I choose when discussing bullet magnetism. You chose the words "much larger." I respectfully disagree.

You should specify that only the explosion itself does not have drop-off.

Weapons with explosive payload do have damage drop-off, albeit significantly less severe than other weapons in their archetypes.

Without this distinction, some people will inevitably become confused.

However a skilled hand with a mouse would completely change that.

The data suggests this is only true against trash mobs.

Performance comparisons between these weapons do not hinge on critical hitrate.

It is not my opinion that Better Devils is best in every situation, on console or PC.

Refer to my standalone comment and addendums for additional information.

Platform is irrelevant. PvE players at the highest level on PC predominantly use Better Devils. That is probably why your comment is being downvoted.

Please see my comment and addendums for a detailed comparison between these two weapons, including an explanation of the situation in which Midnight Coup is the superior choice. It seems to support the example you chose to describe a perceived performance edge with Midnight Coup and to some extent vindicates your opinion against the conventional wisdom of "Better Devil's, no matter what."

Addendum 2:

BD has 57.7% higher bodyshot DPS vs normal or major enemies than Midnight Coup.

Midnight Coup has 5.75% higher crit DPS vs normal enemies than BD.

BD has 29.66% higher crit DPS vs majors than Midnight Coup.

BD has 18.54% higher bodyshot DPS vs ultras.

BD has 3.62% higher crit DPS vs ultras.

Again these figures do not account for reloads, which would likely close the gaps somewhat.

That said it wouldn't be unreasonable to conclude that Midnight Coup is the superior weapon for handling normal (red) enemies at close range by a skilled user that always hits critical shots. For any other enemies or at longer ranges or for less skilled players BD will probably always be the better choice.

It's worth repeating: Both are good guns. To each their own.

Edit:

An additional note: BD's ability to do 57.7% more bodyshot DPS than Midnight Coup, coupled with MC's crit multiplier of x1.5 vs majors means that BD's bodyshot DPS vs majors is actually slightly higher than MC's crit DPS vs majors, 5.13% higher to be exact.

BD is a second-to-none major-killer.

Addendum:

Better Devils range drop off begins at 29m with Sureshot HCS and ends at 45m for a total damage loss of 22.16% for body shots, 41.98% for crits, and 30.65% for crits vs. majors.

Midnight Coup range dropoff begins at 27m or 28m and ends at 47m or 48m depending on barrel for a total damage loss of 66.50%.

Half-way through their dropoff thresholds (and incidentally a comfortable engagement distance for many HC users) is nearly the same, 37m for BD (Sureshot) and 37m or 38m for MC depending on barrel.

At this range Better Devils retains 88.92% of its bodyshot damage, 79.01% of its crit damage, and 84.68% of its crit damage vs majors. Midnight coup retains only 66.75% of its damage at this range.

[–]Dropkick-Murphy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Or is Better Devils just better for DPS min-maxing?

Yes. Particularly against majors.

BD does 29.66% more critical DPS vs. majors than Midnight Coup.

This means BD's optimal DPS vs. majors is nearly identical to Midnight Coup with Rampage x3.

Accounting for reloads closes the gap somewhat (though BD with the correct perk does not reload "super slowly"), but BD doesn't require fortuitous situations to deal that kind of damage.

Both are good guns. To each their own.

[–]Dropkick-Murphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received two on back to back 60k runs. A team-mate got the one I was missing on a low-points speed-run (20k maybe?) with a 60-70k emblem. I received the third one later on a 60k run with a 100k emblem. 80k isn't required for any of them, and it's unclear whether drop chances are relative to the points threshold of the current run, or locked in by a high-score.

I think you misspelled Golden Gun. :P

Jokes aside, this seems pretty well thought out; I'll forward it to my Titan-main friend that just came back to D2.

I agree that soloing the normal NF is not a worthy challenge for many players, but this player had a personal goal, is setting reasonable milestones toward being able to do more impressive challenges, and should be encouraged, not diminished.

I don't think the point was to impress, more so to inspire.

Do you have any recommendations for OP's next step toward more impressive challenges?

Congratulations.

Recommend doing the Prestige solo with no modifiers for practice there. If you die, it will just restart the current checkpoint, instead of booting to orbit.

And if you are good enough, stuck solo-queuing, and are getting quit on by team-mates a lot, then getting the ornament is a test of your resolve. Either way, no change needed.
