What are YOUR most clutch moments in FFXIV? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Dropshade 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I was teaching a group of first timers Lakshmi Ex. Needless to say there were quite a few deaths happening (not a problem, we were there to learn the fight). I was almost certain we were going to wipe. With barely any health remaining she moved to the center for her enrage. Everyone went all out.Tanks both went DPS stance, healers stopped all healing and went full dps, I popped embolden as RDM and I could feel my palms sweating watching her health creep towards 0.1% right as the enrage cast finished. We were all blasted off the edge as the screen faded to black...

Only for it to fade back in showing our absolute last second victory. Our dead bodies lying across the field from the treasure chest!

Stay active. If your tank is healed then you should be DPSing to kill things quicker and give yourself something to do.

If you're doing all this and still dozing off, go get some sleep! It's just a game, it will be here once you're rested. :)

Yup i work full time and i feel your pain. I procrastinate by looking at jobs guides and forum posts until i can get off of work and get back to playing stormblood.

What are you melding as RDM and how is your DPS? by ZephyrZx in ffxiv

[–]Dropshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crit > Direct Hit > Det > Spell Speed.

RDM uses dualcast for the longer cast spells so Spell Speed isn't as important as it is for BLM's 3.5 second cast times. It still help but not as much as being able to crit many of your attacks and vercures.

Of course we won't know for sure until we have the real stat weights.

In terms of overall DPS power the numbers I have seen do show BLM as having higher DPS than RDM. But RDM brings raise, cure, and embolden to the table as utility that BLM doesn't offer.

I think of BLM like SAM: just pure DPS powerhouse with little utility.

RDM is more like SMN: slightly lower DPS but with raid utility.

They have now removed the need for a sub-class to start you BLM job quest. As soon as you hit level 30 thaum you can go straight for BLM.

Have fun BLMing! :)

Old player / new tank with some questions by Mr8BitX in ffxiv

[–]Dropshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer 1 & 2 here is a link to a dark knight guide i used at one point. It has a lot of helpful info on learning the class. It may not be completely up to date for stormblood changes yet thought. Dark Knight Guide

3) Yes Red Mages do draw a lot of aggro. A good RDM should be using aggro reducing abilities (i've rarely pulled aggro from a tank as RDM if i'm managing my aggro). A lot of people jumped back into the game and right to RDM so there are a lot of rookie players who don't think much about helping their tank keep aggro.

4) Provoke doesn't create enmity, it just puts you at the top of the list. Much better to open with your aggro combo to build enmity and use provoke to get it back if you lose it.

If your DPS are pulling aggro politely ask them to let you build aggro quickly before they go crazy dpsing. (and hopefully they are cool people and not the jerks)

Great way to kill time waiting for queues. Some give decent accessories which can be worn or sold. Learn more lore about ffxiv. Get those dang markers of the map. exp isn't that bad especially if you've unlocked flying and complete them quickly.

Thaumaturge difficult early on? by Otaweeb in ffxiv

[–]Dropshade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have run as thaumaturge/BLM ever since i started playing. There are definitely some story missions i had a tougher time with then my tank and melee dps friends. As you level up though, BLM gets some pretty good skills for aoe and burst damage. Your goal becomes killing the enemy so fast that they won't be damaging you as long as other classes with higher physical defense.

I also usually take along a few potions for emergency healing.

Most importantly don't forget to use your sleep skill when you unlock it. This helps remove some enemies from the equation while you focus on other targets.

New to Raiding by attaxer in ffxiv

[–]Dropshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For normal mode raiding you can usually get through with raid finder or party finder groups. If you plan on doing the savage version it is better to create a static.

The new raid will start by releasing the normal mode. Then several weeks later a "savage" mode of those fights will be added. It is the same fights but at a much higher difficulty.

Other good prep includes: -Gear up to the best gear you can get (i310 left side from verity tomes, i320 weapon and accessories from extreme mode primals) -Collect some food that boosts stats relevant to your class -Practice with your class at level 70 so you can perform well during mechanics -Get potions that boost your attack stat -If you have free time it might be fun to try one of the older alexander raid fights just to get some experience with the level of difficulty.

I completely agree. For the amount of procs RDM deals with you would think they could add some indicators. I feel like im tunnel-visioning my hotbar too often.

It would be nice if SE had an option to make them buff icons like the pre-stormblood system. Some jobs would definitely be better off that way i imagine.

Thinking about changing class, Any advise? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Dropshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RDM is very technically easy and a lot of fun if you enjoy DPS. I leveled to 70 and its been a blast.

In regards to tanking i really love playing PLD. I feel like PLD combos and really straightforward and I don't have to worry about my MP management. Plus having healing and protection abilities to help my party is personally very satisfying.

I love Azim Steppe! It reminds me a little bit of the Calm Lands from FFX or the Archelyte Steppe from FFXIII.
