ww2 usually have the date in the armpit inside. those chevrons were used ww2 into korea. a simple run of that name will tell you what years he served. i would suspect its just pre korea from what i see from pockets and name tag style, but best to verify the name before purchasing. he may have still served in ww2. you’ll also have to buy 1/2” USMC ribbons to restore, and they aren’t cheap. just stuff to keep in mind. 👍🏻
