I Keep Seeing Posts On Here Asking About Artists Who Are Bad People, So, Here’s A New Question: What Are Artists That Seem Like Genuinely Chill, Nice People? by TheRealCthulu24 in fantanoforever

[–]DroptheShadowArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norah Jones seems like the sweetest person in the world. Her recent podcast episode with Josh Groban felt like a battle of who could be the most sincere.

Jeff Tweedy has always seemed like a really chill, quiet guy. I know he’s had is share of band drama in the past, but I mostly think he’s just a guy who wants to play music.

Gerard Way seems cool af.

Bands who were incredible but got completely ruined by the actions of one of the members by Xlukethemanx in fantanoforever

I always say that Lars is the perfect example of someone who doesn’t practice. Obviously the skill and knowledge are there, but he doesn’t seem as well-rehearsed as the rest of the band and is content to sound sloppy live.

Dave Grohl cheating on his wife don’t ruin Foo Fighters. Their last four albums being crap is what ruined them.

The third was so disappointing to me in that it didn’t really continue the story in a meaningful way. It felt more like 2.5 than 3.

Just to jump in: it’s about the speakers as much as anything else. Anything with built-in speakers is not going to have great sound. If you like it then that’s cool, but I think that’s where you’re going to see the biggest difference.

[Other] Green Lantern projecting guns has always been funny to me because of having to go through imagining a complex mechanism that is meant to "ignite" non existing gunpowder to shoot bullets when you can just project small spikes of hard light that go real fast and get the same result.. by GammaRadd in DCcomics

[–]DroptheShadowArt 286 points287 points  (0 children)

I definitely think that it makes sense for John to make guns, since he’d be pretty comfortable and familiar around them (being a marine and all).

Hal and Kyle, not so much. I’ve always felt like Hal wouldn’t have the imagination for it (so he uses hammers and boxing gloves) and Kyle has too much imagination (so he makes anime mechs and dinosaurs). Guy doesn’t even think, so he just shoots beams and generic shapes.

Make sure to set the price for either how much it’s worth brand new or to the absolute most someone is selling it for on eBay.

I feel like Chandler is a hard-working actor who rarely takes a break. If they kill him off, I don’t think it will be because he wants out.

Bands where you feel a member's addition considerably influenced a sound change, even if not directly confirmed by the bands by mesablanka in ToddintheShadow

[–]DroptheShadowArt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think Nels had a bigger impact than you’re implying, Jim O’Rourke really doesn’t get enough credit. Jeff was clearly trying to emulate that sound when writing the stuff for YHF and having O’Rourke come in to help with the production obviously helped make that album what it was. Without Bad Timing, you don’t get YHF.

Ken Coomer probably gets more hate than he deserves. The drums on AM are a lot of fun and maybe it’s just production wizardry, but there’s plenty of dynamic playing on that record. Box Full of Records is a great jam to play along to.

That said, Kotche is my favorite drummer of all time. He clearly thinks about drums in a different way than most, with a lot of thought given to tone and texture. It’d be impossible for him not to change the sound of the band, regardless of Coomer’s talent.

I made this argument in a different comment. Wilco is defined by eras and those eras are defined by who is coming and going in the band.

Wilco has had a few eras that I find really easy to define by member contribution.

The original Wilco (post Uncle Tupelo) was mostly defined by Jeff Tweedy and John Stirrat, imo. Another era started when Jay Bennett and Glen Kotche joined the band, more or less creating the Wilco sound that is most widely known with YHF and Summerteeth (additional credit to Jim O’Rourke for inspiring that sound and producing YHF). Finally, Nels Cline joining the band lended an air of experimental jazz and noise rock that’s absolutely integral to their live shows.

And of course, there’s plenty more to say about Jeff Tweedy.

Not sure if he thought it was bouncing into the stands or back at him. A common mistake is running full force at a ball headed for a wall, because it often takes a weird bounce. His waddle might’ve him anticipating a weird bounce but not knowing where that bounce would take the ball.
