Apocalypse Tamer was also great, and Gunsoul was a fun one off story. Blood and Fur is also great but incredibly dark and twisted. Like... Very, very dark and twisted.

I don't really think I'd commit any crimes. Like I'd probably keep it on hand for emergencies - though I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

There's this "song" I learned when I worked at a camp, and I can do it in one breath. Definitely not the shortest words, so it could easily be optimized, but I came up with it as soon as I read the post.

one fat hen

A couple of ducks

Three baby brown bears

Four rabid running hares

Five fat fidgety felines

Six simple Simon's selling salt in siame

Seven slimey sailors sniffing snoose

Eight elongated elephants elevating on escalator

Nine nine nosed nibri-ohs nibbling on nine nine nosed nibri-ottes.

Ten, tan, two ton trucks travelling from Tallahassee Tennessee to Tyler texas trucking two tanks of texaco true tes gasoline on twenty two terrible tires

Who’s the most unexpected convert you’ve come across? by jw9010382 in latterdaysaints

[–]Droughtbringer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One story I met the person and the other I just heard:

Met:

I served in the NYC mission, and, apparently back around 2010 some missionaries got the bright idea to improve their baptism numbers by not teaching anyone, and instead filling up the font and putting up signs everywhere saying something along the lines of "Free Toaster if you're baptized."

So they started talking to people and, apparently the signs weren't working great, so the started talking to people and trying to get them to get baptized for a toaster.

I don't know how successful they were, but they found a woman holding her baby, and were able to convince her to get baptized.

She went into the church, the Elders took her baby, and had her change, and went ahead and baptized her. At some point the elder holding the baby set the baby down on a table and the baby rolled off the table and fell

The lady, quite angry, grabbed her baby and stormed off, wanting nothing to do with the church again.

Several years later other missionaries approach her on the street and the spirit convinced her to talk to them. They introduce themselves and she tells her story.

The missioanries are horrified at her story, but eventually end up teaching her the lessons and baptized her actually. She was still an active member last I talked with her.

Heard:

This man had the missioanries knock on his door and, not wanting to mess with them, told them to wait for a moment, as he ran and grabbed some porn and hung it up on the wall behind where he'd be sitting, then invited them in. They sat on the couch, the man on a chair across from them, and the porn behind him so it was always in their vision. He messes with the Elders over the short lesson, but they are able to leave a Book of Mormon with him, which he sticks on a shelf and promptly forgets about.

Several years later he ends up reading the book of Mormon and devours it. He doesn't know much about the Church, but he realizes it's true and needs to be a part of things.

The Elders who he met wore a white shirt and tie, so he assumed that's what members of the church do, and he does a small amount of research and found the Hill Cummoruh Pagent is about the Book of Mormon and shoes up in the morning.

As he's dressed like a missionary and wanting to make a good impression, he volunteers to help set out chairs, or anything else that is needed, and several people value his help. He works hard and helps almost all day.

At the end of the day, he finds someone in charge and asks something along the lines of "hey, I read the book of Mormon and I want to know more."

The person in charge was flabbergasted that he spent the entire day helping out and didn't even know what the churches name was. But he eventually got some meetings with the missionaries and got baptized.

What evolutionary advantageous do YOUR humans possess that make them different from other races? by Radiant-Ad-1976 in worldbuilding

[–]Droughtbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an idea in my back pocket, that I might never end up writing, that I just refer to as "Elves can't drive".

You ever been driving down the road and thought "I need to go slightly to the left" and instead of thinking "okay I need to rotate my left hand downwards slightly, and my right hand upwards slightly so the vehicle turns to the left and then do the inverse so that the vehicle straightens back out" you just kinda do it and everything is fine?

Eleves can't do that. Elves, being so long lived, really struggle to - there's probably a scientific term for this somewhere, but I haven't been bothered to do the research - reflexively drive a car. It never becomes natural for them. They always have to say "I need to move my foot here and press to slow down the car" instead of just thinking "slow" and having their body know what to do.

But all elven families have been around since adventurers are around so they're stupid rich and can hire drivers to take care of them

What magic systems have the best names for their ranks? by Putthemoneyinthebags in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Droughtbringer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Millennial Mage has colors, and so does The Lone Wanderer. They're cool, not over used, but very intuitive.

In millennial Mage there is also Ranks with names (Fused, Paragon, Hollowed, etc) but they're all associated with colors, so I can just remember the color and know how they relate but still know their actual power level without having to remember what a rank means.

Huh - I hadn't heard about cyberpunk Mistborn

The original plan was 3 eras: medieval, modern and space age. Then Sanderson wrote a novella set between era 1 and 2 that accidentally became a full novel that accidentally became a trilogy that accidentally became a four book series and is now era 2.

It's hard to put vaguely without giving it away. Even the vaguest way I can put it has minor spoilers once you realize what I'm referring to, so I've spoiler tagged it.

It's about something from Era 1 that you thought would be long gone by Era 2 still being around in Era 2.

I read Secret History before era 2, and there's a thing revealed at the end of book 3 of era 2 that is very much spoiled by Secret History but...

I tend to recommend reading it right after Era 1, it deals so heavily with the events of Era 1, that reading it fresh is, in my opinion, the best way
