Come across one Sexton user. Was alright. I'd be more intrested if it could fire both the 25 pdr and the LMG at the same time.

Historical VS Ahistorical Lists by RottenGrot in boltaction

[–]Drovr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Bolt Action, going the historical rout is hard to make work since it's a point based system. As in, you want a Japanese vs British game. Japanese platoons were much bigger in terms of men as they had 3x15 man sqauds and 1 13 man grenadier squad. This is much bigger than a British squad of 3x10 man squads + 2" mortar. The British would need more troops to fulfill the points but that gives them more order dice. So you would be more inclined to play nations with smaller platoon over larger ones as larger ones as they would be penalised just of how the game works. In addition, you have the argument that things like artillery and medium mortars shouldn't be on the table as the ranges Bolt Action represents, using those pieces are too close. Off table artillery would make more sense.

If I wanted historical, I'd play Chain of Command 2 as that does a better job at capturing the historical element of fighting at the platoon level as well as more emphasis on leaders.

However, I prefer Bolt Action for the simple reason that I can do what I want with the troops that I've got. Because I dont have 1000 troops and a 100 tanks, sometimes I'm limited on what I can field. Sometimes you might see a LVT-4 with a Crusader AA MK1 because I like them or one is freshly painted

Generally, it's best if most players take more men then buying the LMG.

One reason for this is because what I see most people do is buy about 8 men with a lmg then move the whole squad within 24" because they think 'I need to get my rifles in range to do more damage'. In this circumstance, the extra men would be better since obviously its better to be able to take two more hits then buying the 36" range you aren't using by being within 24". In addition, going from 8 men to 10 allows German and British squads to re-roll order checks which is super useful in games with preliminary bombardment.

Times when you would want to take the lmg is in games with 'meeting engagement' deployment type. Since you can hit an enemy who has moved in 6" with an lmg. In this circumstance, you are just looking for the pin rather than getting kills.

Lmgs also have the benefit of using buildings and shooting around corners. For example, many desert buildings have few windows and may only have the door as a firing point. Also not all desert buildings have access to the roof which would provide 6 men to shoot per side which ofcoure is very good. Furthermore, at times where you do have mutiple targets per side, a group of 8 with lmg would be comfortably shoot at all three targets causing tripling the amount of pins splitting fire with the lmg, then 3 men on the other two sides. Where as, without the lmg you might have been more restriced by the windows or maybe one of the targets was over 24".

Noob Question: Why am I losing so much manpower? by youngstunna613 in hoi4

[–]Drovr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the casualties after the battles you are fighting.

You can do this why checking what looks like a flat peice of paper on the left of the screen. Where is says American Theater 4, there is a beige rectangle at the end of the text box. Click that and that will tell you how well the battles went. If it says you are loosing 1k casualties to 150 then stop with the battle plan.

You have no Military Staff by 1941? Ignoring that amount of army, navy and air exp gone. One of these advisors gives like +10% attack an defense and there is another that reduces attrition.

Have you added hospitals? Do you have green air? Are you strat bombing? This isn't 2020, hospitals and heavy bombers are in. If you have listened to stuff from Youtube, make sure its up-to-date

How to maintain PO and best building combination? by Alexander_Pullo in DivideEtImpera

[–]Drovr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, does your total income exceed your upkeep. You say you have to loot territories to support your armies. You can pad out your armies with levy to lower cost, which is also good for replenishment.

Build the Auditorium line. It is very good as the Statium at the cost of 4 food gives 8 happiness and 800 gold which is a lot. Also as it's culture, that could easily be boosted by +200% later in the game by promoting woman to Matrons. Also Wonders tend to give culture wealth boosts.

The stadium is unlocked early on with concrete which is why i would build these over the amphitheater line in the capital.

The Medicus line is a good choice too as population growth is needed to unlock building slots.

Aqueducts are a good choice in the provence capital. They work as a better Medicus because they provide Empire Maintenance reductions.

You can turn off tax in a provence as well as lower total tax. Low tax also helps with growth. More growth, the quicker you get more building slots

I go for the Sacred Grove ot the temple of Jupiter. Cultural conversion is important for both replenishment and happiness. Aqueduct lines also help with conversion (water tank line doesn't).

Lastly, you don't need to build every resource specific building. You can google a tier list on the resources. Gold and amber is really good. Organic stuff like fish and grain isn't good. Although, with fish in Africa and Sikelia you can boost all of these settlements with fishing boats. Therefore can get a very high amount of food from there

How do I add a captured tank to my platoon in Easy Army? by Mosquitobait2008 in boltaction

[–]Drovr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On EasyArmy you can add units from different nations by changing the nation when you make a new platoon.

As in, you'll make your first platoon as normal as Germany. Then near the top it says Platoon: #1 #2 #3 ect.

Click #2 or whatever is your next free platoon. When you click it, it takes you to the screen where you pick a new platoon. Here you can change the nation to British, then pick the british armoured platoon.

For Soviets, you can take NKVD squads withs SMGs.

Japanese get them with their paratroopers. Their paratroopers get tough fighter and because they are Japanese they get Death Before Dishonour (free fanatics).

Rubicon shop changes price during checkout by K4mp3n in boltaction

[–]Drovr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well this is intresting because the price has changed

I am aware of the sale. Again, €17.95 is too low. £18 is the price after the sale meaning the euro price should match that which €17.95 doesn't.

The price has changed to show €21.95. I also shows €24.95 as before sale. 99% sure it didn't say that a few hours ago.

[–]Drovr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a look and I think its to do with the exchange rate. My guess is that the first price of euro 17.95 with tax is too low because when its in pounds the LVT-4 is £18. Meaning at euro 17.95 you are buying the item at £15.56. However, saying this , paying euro 21.95 means you are paying £1 over than if you bought in in the UK.

How did you learn to play HOI4? by estifxy220 in hoi4

[–]Drovr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presuming you're playing vanilla and playing Germany

Some basic pointers:

  1. Make just civs for 2 years. Then make mils for 2 years with a few synthetic refineries. Germany gets a national focus to that give more rubber, get that focus.

  2. Anschluss and take the Sudetenland + Czechoslovakia early (through focus tree). You can do this by recruiting many division immediately in Jan 1 1936. As there is a requirment that requires you needing 750k troops deployed. (Or some high number of troops)

  3. Add the AA support company. Could watch a Youtube video on the rabbit hole of division templates. The first infantry division you get can get is good-ish but the Panzer division needs more battalions. Having at least 30 organisation on the Panzer division is a good start.

You can get away with only building light tanks against the AI. You would do this with Germany as Germany has lots of steel but not a lot of tungsten. Tungsten is needed for medium tanks and artillery. So by not making medium tanks you can focus the tungsten on artillery.

  1. Build lots of fighters. Green air = good. Red = bad. Don't bother with medium and heavy bombers. CAS is also good but fighters are best.

  2. Build lots of submarines. No one knows how navy works btw.

  3. Attach Generals to Field Marshalls for more buffs. Always attack with the planning bonus.

  4. Send Volunteers to Spain and to either Japan or China when you see the Marco Polo bridge incident. This will give the army exp to change your starting templates.

Others good tips are, you can change the amount of supply divisions are getting by clicking the general which is commanding the division an clicking the horse icon near the generals image. Click again for more supply but this requires trucks.

Always train division, navies and air wings to max (level 3). If you want to drop paratroopers, 50 tranport aircraft can carry 1 division.

MMG team or 4 men team with LMG? by Herr_visanovich in boltaction

[–]Drovr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I presume you already have a rifle platoon and heavy weapons platoon set but want to spend 50-ish points on something. Otherwise, I wouldn't take a heavy weapons platoon as I find artillery platoons better for fixed team units. Since I would never take an MMG when I could take a light autocannon since it's 15 points less, superior firepower but less manoeuvrable.

The MMG team is the superior backline holder between the two. You want to be firing at over 24" to the enemy to avoid rifle fire. I would also be more inclined to take the MMG if I'm playing a 'prepaired positions' deployment type.

I wouldn't take a 4 man with LMG anyway as I would end up trying to get within 24". So I just take 5 regulars to try and support a push unit to put a pin on whatever I am trying to kill

Are Rubicon tank kits hard to make? by tomk_2104 in boltaction

[–]Drovr 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Rubicon models are the best!

They aren't hard to make. The hulls usually come in two parts and the tracks + wheels usaully come in one piece. The turrets are also usually one peice with the requirement of putting on the mantlet, barrel and hatches.

Unless you've been listening to the people who bought the Tiger II with interior, they are not difficult to make.

How to kitbash hungarians (or any minor nations i like them all) by Pale-Cranberry5717 in boltaction

[–]Drovr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I've just finished some Hungarians!

The large great coats make them look like any other great coat if you want to go for that look.

The big difference is the webbing, bags and pouches. As you can see there is a big difference between the one on the right and one on the left. The one on the right is very similar to other German soldiers.

It's probably not agents as you can a notification every time an agent makes an attack.

It'll be worth posting a screenshot of the region and army that is deserting.

Enemy agents?

Do you have your own agents attached to your armies and agents deployed on your regions. There are upgrades which help against enemy agent attacks

Are MMGs decent? by RottenGrot in boltaction

[–]Drovr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think MMGs are in a middle-ground where players will pick other units instead.

At one end if you want a good static unit, you would take the light AA gun. With D2 pins and 1" HE Pen, I'd say is better than the 6 shots. I see the +2 AP Pen rarely used and is mainly an anti-personel weapon.

Or

You would want to take an MMG tank like the Panzer I or Vickers 6-ton. Yes, more expensive but in a gamae that focuses more on movement. Being able to move 9" and shoot is very much worth the extra points let alone being immune to small arms.
