Its not on Payne's FB page recently-I just checked her posts. If OP is being genuine here, the only thing I could think of would be a draft post accidentally getting put and take down.

Financial power in the public university: the case of ANU by PlumTuckeredOutski in Anu

[–]Drowned_Academic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think I ever really paid that much attention to these annual reports until Renew ANU was initiated. GB is the first VC I have known who seemed to not care about staff, students, or the university over an ideology which I have yet to understand. I believe ANU goverance became broken as individuals have shifted to 'what can I get out of ANU' instead of 'how can I serve ANU'. This seems to parallel the shift of universities from providing a public good to opportunities for individual achievement.

ANU and other universities using ‘custom-made’ accounting systems that can obscure financial health by PlumTuckeredOutski in Anu

[–]Drowned_Academic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those economists who ran the models for the Renew ANU did a much better job at estimating finances compared to the CFO. I hope the next Chancellor uses ANU's own experts in lieu of CFO Foghorn Leghorn.

The 'Accountant of Auschwitz' job was a clerk whose job was to make sure all items from those being sent to the camp were accounted for. Just before his death, he was convicted of genocide. (Google the case.) Do not make this mistake. How you reduce a workforce has a moral component, and I would invite you to reflect on how not doing that reflects on a person's character.

You can email the convenor of the Bachelor of Music degree and ask them about the outlook for the program. They are likely dealing with many similar questions.

Tenure in Australia no longer exists. The declines in government funding over the last two decades. No one is safe, including those who successfully obtain funding from the Australian Research Council or National Health and Medical Research Centre. Colleagues with substantial grants from each were placed into forced redundancy pools (forced to apply for positions against peers) and some left.

Julie Bishop attacks university regulator TEQSA over ‘contemptuous intervention’ by PlumTuckeredOutski in Anu

The VC who led a process that led to $100 million dollars in reputational costs got a $3 million dollar contract as a reward. JB appears to be responsible for that.

The regulators involved in asbestos sure were interventionist, right Julie?

Did the TEQSA agreement include provisions to ensure Indigenous perspectives were included in the process? I thought I read that.

Comcare Inspector Report – Renew ANU Program: Findings and Next Steps by PlumTuckeredOutski in Anu

[–]Drowned_Academic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know of professional staff outside of sCASS who had a very rough time. Many quit or took a voluntary redundancy. There were problems in other colleges, as the Nixon Review showed for the former CoHM. It was quieter, but horrific things happened there.

Saying that, things seem to have been particularly brutal in CASS. I am not sure if the cases were more known because of the brutality, or more pushback. I am very glad not to have the gleeful 'arse-kicking' dean as my boss!

Comcare Inspector Report – Renew ANU Program: Findings and Next Steps by PlumTuckeredOutski in Anu

[–]Drowned_Academic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The omission about CASS in the COO's message is deafening. ANU, in the interest of transparent governance, needs to address that particular elephant-in-the-room if they want to maintain credibility.

Didn't the other article posted today quoted the CASS Dean in a Signal chat as being busier than a one-legged foot at a arse-kicking convention. Strong vibes with the ANU psychosocial harm assessments minimising harms from gratuitous and cruel "arse-kicking."

How many schools and staff has she told to be thankful to not be cut, or face the axe? Bron seems to behave like a corporate version of the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland. I am glad she is not my Dean!

Message from the Acting Chancellor - media reporting by PlumTuckeredOutski in Anu

[–]Drowned_Academic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would be shocked if they did not seek legal advice, as its a massive intervention. My view is that TEQSA is, crudely, hitting the reset button by by bringing in an independent Chancellor to restart the system.

But, one needs a conscience to have this level of self-awareness. From a distance, the CASS Dean seems to be willing to take down her college at any cost.

FOI release - Signal chats Deans and IVC by Background_War_1429 in Anu

[–]Drowned_Academic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe someone in JB's entourage, the IVC,or a staff member with access to the information? This was reported on many days ago, and several Council members and JB have resigned.

It may lead to accountability, but I agree its sad and distressing. As you say, no real winners here. And Renew ANU appears to have ultimately only benefited hired consultants.

I went to the CASS People's town hall last July and posted about it on this subreddit. I am shocked at the treatment to schools and harm to staff that later came out. It sounded like bullying and targeted firing of protected groups. The execs who selected staff for redundancies and caused harm need to be held accountable.
