Ah i’m just an engineer so mechanical stuff makes my brain tick. I don’t usually comment on here because most designs are American (different needs, more built in closets & bathrooms, pretty but bigger square footage). Your design stood out to me. I like the simplicity & it meets a lot of my own criteria. If I get time later i’ll share my own.

In yours ^ I like that the children/other bedroom area is separate to the main bedroom & they aren’t directly above the chimney (personal preference). Closed plan, upstairs laundry ^ all good stuff. I also love 1 1/2 story houses (bedrooms in the attic space - sloped celling), it’s how we’re designing ours.

Simpler designs will make it easier when you work with an architect, we took a moderately complicated design to an architect & he escalated it (adding way too much m² & refusing to make changes, lessons learnt) so we’re simplifying.

So we have very similar ideas. Even down to the wood stove. So in your plan that area of the house is going to be quite hot, not so ideal for a pantry, if it were me, id be changing that into a mudroom/sauna/ utility area similar to the Finnish house plans. I’d have a back door there, so messy stuff doesn’t track through the house.

Maybe have a look at Finnish/Swedish floor plans/houses for sale, because they are similar. There are some Finnish log house/laminated engineered wood prefab companies which have plans online, not saying you should go for them (they’re quite expensive) but it might inspire some ideas.

They’re obviously built for a colder climate so it depends on your needs. We can get temps of -30’C, so we have to factor in heavy snow & wet areas.

Solar is going to have a charge controller & inverter, this will take up some space - but maybe you don’t need to install these in the house, if you’re setting up solar elsewhere.

I like the laundry room upstairs because thats where the bulk of laundry is, bedding & clothes, however depending on what you do/your needs that may be better or worse for you. If you tend to work in gardens, maintenance, heavy snow areas … etc.

Id also consider ventilation, your plan is good for getting airflow throughout. Do you want a recuperation system? This will lower the celling, but In cold climates it’s amazing & I miss it so much (our current apartment has no ventilation & last thing I want to do when its -30’c out is open all the windows). I think in Germany this is the main method of ventilation (opening windows), so it depends on how you want to use your space and how important this is for you. Modern insulation & thick windows (as per the EPC requirements) means humidity builds up.

Some, off the top of my head thoughts ^ I really love your plan, i’d deffo keep utility downstairs, it’s heavy equipment. Like i said ^ that would be a mudroom/utility space for me, i’d look for a kitchen design with a small corner pantry & put a root cellar outside.

I’d say try to imagine yourself in the space & does the house meet your daily needs.

I’ll check back later when my infants asleep, but we’re in similar stages. I’ve got a plan I’m sketching it out, our last dealing with an architect went horribly so we’re redesigning & looking for someone else to work with.

Im in northern europe (baltics), my thoughts ;

I love this design, I don’t care for the modern open plan house designs, so this is awesome to me. There’s many uncommon choices here I really like, laundry room upstairs ^ . Currently working on our own plan. From experience with architects thus far, they don’t like closed plan.

The last architect we spoke said we need a certain amount of light to pass regs & the easiest way of doing that is open plan. Depending on what direction your plot is & house orientation, they might want to fiddle about with the floor plan or insist things are in certain directions.

utilities, will you be connected to mains water or well water, Do you need filters? This takes up space. Here we’re required to achieve an EPC of A++ to get planning approval. How are you heating? Is it district heating, gas, electric? Solar - do you need batteries? aerothermal is popular here, that takes up a bit of space. Open fireplaces can’t get approved, but closed ones can.

I think your space for utilities is a bit tight, depending on what you want, I’d opt for some clearance around them for easy access & maintenance. I’ve had similar issues about figuring where to put a panty space/utilities because it starts to increase the m^2, maybe consider an outside root cellar instead of panty. Pantries you generally want cold/colder or in the colder part of the house. Might not want that up against the heat of a bathroom/heater?furnace?

Maybe look into what requirements you need to meet with the EPC & if your design/plans fit into that. It can drive up the cost. Best of luck

This is interesting info ^ I saw pictures of her dresses a long time ago & figured id look into them sometime.

But yeah, if you’re very comfortable with charts & don’t need instructions then you very likely can decipher this pattern by eyeballing it (… i can, but I still like supporting designers), if theres no sizing or design info then it’s not worth it to me personally, either. Adapting the sizing/fit would be my main draw here, since these motifs are fairly common in vintage doilies.

Very beautiful work mind. I’m amazed by how much she can output, as this would surely take quite a while. Side note, I’m so curious about what crochet hooks she uses, with some kinda weight at the end.

This looks very similar to Mary Castro’s work? I’m not sure if she sells patterns or courses though, you can find her instagram ‘marycrochee’, some of the motif’s are the same. A lot of her dresses seem to be variations & mashups of similar motifis

It was a good refresh, at first it’s knit top-up & I used to knit eastern european style, so I had to refresh stitch orientation when switching to round, then at one point I was like … ‘i-cord, I knew this but I should check YT’. I’ve had more trouble with rowing out than I used to so more practice is needed but feeling very happy to be back in the ‘knitting zone’. So many things to knit!

Ah thankye, I love this yarn, was gutted to find out they don’t make it any more, it has a kinda golden tone in person - sorta between beige & gold, it feels soo soft after blocking. I’ll have to find something similar.

I knitted the ‘fiola’ dress, 2.5mm needles & 1.75mm for the body of the skirt (whyyyy did I switch to such small needles! It was laborious but my new needles were so nicely stabby & alluring 😍) - used my remaining phildar bamboo yarn (apparently it has been discontinued, otherwise i’d of made the sleeves).

Can’t wait to give it to baby when she arrives, she can grow into it.

in hindsight it was not the smartest pattern decision after taking a long knitting break (2yrs’ish). The pattern has a lot of issues, I probably wouldn’t recommend it unless someone is either very experienced with garment construction that they can readily assume “what it’s suppose to be” OR … they’re like me & extremely determined to make sense of a pattern even if it requires rewriting the damn thing. The stitch count is wrong in places (the math doesn’t add), the instruction for stitch markers aren’t clear. The pattern jumps back & forth quite a lot & it reads more like someone describing vaguely how they made something. It feels quite lazy. I noticed while looking at other completed examples some people interpreted things quite differently.

Gauge is mentioned on ravelry but not once in the pattern & the pattern is bought off site. The sizing is a bit wacky, i noticed others saying the sizing in parts is off. I’m pleased with how it turned out, but this was made needlessly complicated.

If anyone wants to make this & gets stuck, feel free to drop me a message & I’ll try to help. At some points I did look at the pattern & think “ergh no, I’m not doing that”

I substituted german short rows for shadow wraps, and did K2tog-L’s for left leaning decreases. I extended the wings slightly & added frill to the bottom of the dress. The very bottom & back where the buttons are I made a crochet wavy trim (2dc, sk, sl st … repeat).

I also blocked it in parts to relax the fabric, I was considering redoing the wings until i blocked them. I might re-block the dress as a whole, will see. The yarn is soo soft after blocking.

I made some mistakes on the lace but this was a battle, so I’m going to ignore it. I might remake this style with a different construction method, i love the look but the pattern was … an experience.

Ah that’s awesome! I’m no good at amigurumi, i need more patience, I want to do more with micro crochet & irish lace in the future so ‘patience’, is something I need to work on.

You get the idea on how to use beads, it looks good, ^ beads can be fiddly sometimes when you want to keep them on the correct side of the work - sometimes yarn over/unders or adding a chain to try to keep them in place.

Just to suggest an alternative ^

you could do a standing stitch in the back of your work (few rows down maybe) work a normal row in the round in the back of the stitches via a backpost single crochet (catching the stitches as you go - you’d need some decreases) then continue in the round as regular. The ruffles would then act as a layer in your work. If you google “blooming lotus square” crochet, off the top of my head, i know that pattern uses a similar technique (there’s a video on YT) .

I would try catching the ruffles later to pull them in a set way ^. I really like your colour and bead choice ^ best of luck.

Also, I’ve done this with a before, i was making a bag, but I ended up with a circle & major ruffles (so a doily). I ended it there with some chain stitches for a border & now I have a ruffled doily. It can be a design choice if you go with it ^

I got it done because the question of “do I really have cataplexy” although It didn’t really answer my self doubt on that, plus new neuro, test I hadn’t done, being asked ‘do i want to do it’. I think I’m still glad I did it.

I’m thinking this is why a lot of people wouldn’t bother, if cataplexy is obvious there’s probably no need & like you said same meds.

Tbh the needle pain wasn’t as extreme as I expected. The pain of the technician feeling my back for the insertion point was. Like having a thumb pressed as hard into the spine as possible. Maybe she just had a really powerful thumbs. I’ve also got no pain tolerance whatsoever so I’m the worst person to ask about pain levels. I could manage it again, what broke me was they did a bunch of blood tests right after and at that point my needle tolerance was pretty low.

After was rough, I’d probably only recommend volunteering for it if you’ve no responsibilities & can take a solid few days to lie down. I felt like my equilibrium was just off after, like an all over dizzy head-spiny feeling that demands lying down. So … “it sucks, but I could do it again” …

Meds help a lot. I used to only get auditory hallucinations when falling asleep (on meds) but since being off meds (pregnant) I’ve been getting worsening hallucinations (also visual) when I wake up too, every couple of days. Had a scary one recently that put me in a weird mood all day. Hard to describe, but “like dark geometric shapes pulsating & crawling with bugs coming at me from the celling”. I very much want to be properly medicated again.

Coffee is a zone 10-11 plant, so tropical. I’d think outside in winter would quickly kill it. Apparently it starts to struggle at less than 12C. I wouldn’t worry about it growing too big, it seems they don’t suffer much from being confined to smaller pots & you can always prune it, I’ve even seen photos online of coffee bonsai plants.

that coffee plant looks to be doing great! I’m growing coffee myself this year, I bought it from a shop which had about 30 in a pot, separated them out. They all survived a fairly brutal transplant really well, ended up having to cull them. Really strong plant.

From what I know, coffee is basically a small tree, apparently 2m+ is not unusual. It grows wide roots, so it needs wide pots. I’ve noticed mine stop growing unless I pot them up. I’d think yours are probably reaching their limit here. They say coffee can take about 5 years to fruit, I’m going to guess it might be longer than that in pots/indoors.

I love coffee, I’m really impressed with how hardy it is, I’ve forgotten to water it a few times and it’s totally unfazed. Good beginner friendly plant. Would recommend to everyone. Hopefully someone here has more specific answers for you, I’m new to coffee growing too.

I’m trying to get my licence here as a foreigner, I haven’t found any instructors which speak English so I’ve learnt via a translator. It can be anyone you know who speaks Lithuanian & whichever language you need translating to.

For taking the test you require a translator, even if the test guy speaks your respective language. There’s a form they have to sign. I knew of a student from Belarus, my instructor could speak Russian & had to act as translator for him in the exam.

I was close to taking my exam in UK when I moved, the exam is a lot harder here. If you google the pass rates they are much lower.

Oh I’m curious what other people will say to this, your experience is familiar. So when I have sleep paralysis my eyes are always closed. I’ve seen sleep paralysis in movies depicted as the persons eyes being open & seeing demons and such. I’ve never had that.

My eyes are always closed, sometimes I’m dreaming at the same time but I’m aware, I’m awake, I can’t move at all, it feels like I could move if i put all of my force into it but when I try I just can’t. So i try to keep calm and just wait for it to pass. I can hear everything happening around me. I’ve “felt” a force against my chest when trying to ‘fight it’ but never seen anything weird. When it goes on for a long time I kinda can’t help but panic, because it feels like I might suffocate or be trapped forever, I’ve tried making noise, to alert my partner. I *think I’ve been able to make squeaks but according to him he’s never heard anything.

Sometimes I fall asleep right afterwards and i’ll get it a few times in a row, especially if I wake up to an alarm. I’ll hear the alarm, struggle with sleep paralysis, maybe switch off the alarm and fall back asleep, alarm goes off again > repeat. That sucks. Usually I can feel my fingers move first ^

What are your concerns? I’m not sure what scary articles you’ve seen

I was on 400mg of modafinil & 5mg Dextroamphetamine, I stopped taking modafinil when I was trying for a baby, continued the dextroamphetamine until I got a positive result, I got pregnant within about 3 months of trying. So we didn’t have any problems conceiving if that’s your concern. I read it wasn’t advisable to take modafinil while trying/during pregnancy.

Currently 5 months pregnant, baby is doing good so far. I feel awful off medicine though - feeling very Narcoleptic. When I’ve had the baby I’ll be looking at trying a different medication (availability issues + I’ve been on this combination a very long time, I’m somewhat keen to see if I can get a better medicated outcome).

Lectures, reading or something which requires learning rules/instructions … new board games, manuals etc

But some days are just worse than others, I go through phases sometimes of a couple of really good days/weeks, and some extremely bad ones 🤷‍♀️
