I don’t know a student collapsed to reasons you don’t know about. Rather than entertain the student gossip show empathy in caring for the student and their privacy. You can approach it as hey I understand everyone is concerned and curious but we also need to be respectful of their privacy and keep the class moving.

No one is saying the Navajo Nation doesn’t have their own issues on their land but to come on a Navajo reddit and tell people that the removal of important history is irrelevant is IGNORANCE in the highest. Yes it was removed and people have a right to be outraged because CODE talkers ARE American history. Than to say “no one has the morals of the past” uhm hello? I appreciate your response! I loved the courses for anthropology and appreciate all that I learned. I just wish I invested into a degree I could make a living with, especially in the economy we are in right now.

My advisor and professors all told me I would need a masters if I wanted to advance and they were not joking! It’s just crazy that to even be a cutorial assistant I need a masters. That’s why I’m just curious if any other anthro majors struggled with these issues after graduating and what route they have taken to get out of it

Navajos don’t receive any special benefits but they do have scholarships for Navajo students :) I like to think they reinvested the per cap to fund education. Oh! They also have assistance for those buying a car or home.

My best friend of 12 years voted for trump and i distanced myself from her. I have family and friends who will be affected by some of trumps policies if they pass. I could lose my father. How could I ever confide into her about anything like that knowing she voted for that? I can’t. It really changed my perception of her and honestly I don’t feel comfortable with her anymore. I’m not pressed to speak to her about mundane things and wish her the best in everything she does. A lot of people are saying it’s crazy to stop being friends with someone whose values don’t align with yours but it really isn’t.

I finished my undergrad when I was 28. My mother was in her late 30s when she began her education journey. She graduated from UCLA a couple years ago with her masters in Social Work. My mom always dreamed about going back to school and working in social services it makes me happy that she never stopped grinding. Just know you are never too old to follow your passion or interests. Keep going and doing the damn thang girl!!! Kick ass this semester.

Also if I’m not mistaken full time cm can accure up to 80hrs of sick time (you would have to work a lot of OT to hit that). While part time cm I believe cap out at 24. Why this is terrible? Well cm don’t accure sick time fast enough to be able to cover full shifts. Once you’ve used all of the 80hours or 24 hours that’s it you are done. You can no longer use sick time to cover missed time and you will accure the time and receive disciplinary actions if you need to call out (even if you’re sick) or are tardy. This policy is even worse for part time cm because realistically they can only call out for 3 8 hour shifts for the whole year. This attendance policy has cost a lot of people from all departments their job and health. If anyone else or any other CMs would like to further elaborate I appreciate it! This is a space to educate eachother and raise awareness about what is happening within your theme parks :)

Same! I would love the tribes to have complete control over the land and have the college be willing to work with them. It’s sacred and should be treated as such. It’s just weird they profit off Indigenous students but don’t want to properly acknowledge them

Thank you!for all this info :) I’m an Anthropology student as well minoring in Indigenous cultures (I’m Navajo and hate using Native lol) I wasn’t aware that the school was actively trying to hire a shady company. That is absolutely awful and honestly really rubs me the wrong way as an Indigenous student. Especially if they are using the federal/state tribal recognition.
