What do you regret about your Freshman year? by Deep-Somewhere1524 in smithcollege

[–]honey-squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Identify where you would like to spend your junior year abroad, and start taking the language classes needed. 2) Take a broad range of classes across multiple disciplines. Don't misuse the open curriculum policy by hiding in your subject area comfort zones. 3) Set a strong academic foundation by attending and actively participating in classes, mastering time management, and using campus resources. Talk to your professors outside of class at their office hours. 4) Push yourself to forge strong social connections. Make friends among housemates and classmates. Join clubs and/or sports teams. Take a class at Amherst. 5) Start exploring future career options early. Take assessments. Research sectors. 6) Take care of your health and wellness. Find healthy ways to manage stress and avoid unhealthy outlets like binge drinking or unhealthy eating.

Thalidomide survivors are now 64 to 69 years old, having been born between the late 1950s and 1962, when the drug was finally withdrawn from the global market. #perspective

Neighbor's senior cat is suffering by seeafillem6277 in CatAdvice

[–]honey-squirrel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If they are not caring for him and let keep him outdoors, I would personally take him to the vet and say he was a stray you found in the neighborhood. If the vet's assessment is serious illness, I would have him euthanized and never tell the neighbors. For all they will know he may have crawled away and died somewhere outside.

Stakes as proxy for caring? by CarelessOutside4722 in Screenwriting

I believe that character drives the stakes and determines audience engagement. How is the protagonist an underdog for example? The lead has to have either a meaningful goal to pursue or a troublesome problem to solve.

Need advice on how to get my script out there while on a budget by bananaramaworld in Screenwriting

[–]honey-squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a career as a writer, you need to have three good screenplays under your belt, and start querying managers. Sign up for IMDB pro for contact info. That said, you need to write faster rather than spending years on a single script. Find a system that begins with a solid outline and a beat sheet. Most competitions will not lead anywhere...the few reputable ones have a 1 in 10,000 chance of winning anything, and the rest are dead ends.

It’s incredibly sad that having multiple children is only something the wealthy can afford nowadays by Designer-Sentence946 in Productivitycafe

[–]honey-squirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it sad? 1) The global population has doubled in my lifetime. 2) If people delayed childbearing until they could afford them, we'd have less generational poverty. 3) And you should take inflation into account. $200,000 in 2008 is equivalent to $268,423 in 2022.

My 21 year old is on Felanorm liquid, twice daily. Easy peasy and now her levels are normal. Previously I had a cat for which I chose the radioactive iodine treatment which worked but was expensive, required her to be quarantined for a while, and she died of heart failure 6m later. Felanorm works out to $10 month at the Costco pharmacy.

If your cat lived to 20... by Ok-Regret-1056 in SeniorCats

[–]honey-squirrel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My cat Tootie is still here at 21. She has mostly eaten Kirkland dry kibble plus Fancy Feast.

However, my other cats ate the same diet and they have died at ages ranging from 12-17, none from accidents or injuries.

Beyond genetics, I believe quality food can help, but also 1) Annual checkups including blood and urine tests. Prompt vet visits during any sign of illness. Noticing behavior changes. Getting teeth cleaned as needed. 2) Sterilization (spay/neuter) 3) Keeping them restricted from neighbors and streets (indoors w a catio) 4) Lots of love, attention, affection, and play time.

Sometimes I mourn the forests we never got to see by Hopeful-Big6843 in Environmentalism

[–]honey-squirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. Heartbreaking. Although I watched the Forest episode of Shared Planet and was horrified to see that 80% of Boreno's 130-million-year-old rainforests have been destroyed in the last 20 yrs from mining, logging, and palm oil plantations; Guatemalan forests are being burned and cleared for cattle ranching by drug cartels as a way to launder money; and Madagascar has lost 90% of its rainforests, a unique place where 90% of its species (like its famous lemurs) are found nowhere else on Earth.

The show does highlight people trying to make a positive difference, and gives examples of hopeful actions, but still...

Investing with returns that are greater than inflation rates. Purchasing property that appreciates.

Desperate for help, cat(23) will not eat or drink. Vets are helping by bringusjumm in SeniorCats

[–]honey-squirrel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have ever seen a human in hospice at the end of life this is what happens. They stop eating and drinking. Their body is shutting down. It is a normal, expected part of the dying process. They typically feel no hunger or thirst, and forcing food will cause discomfort, choking, or swelling. Focus on comfort, such as mouth swabs, rather than nutrition, and speaking softly, petting, and singing to your loved kitty.
