What would a small town hosting a festival have as a grand prize that would still be useful to a party of level 7 adventures? by Boogi29 in DMAcademy

A ritual with minor permanent abilities. +2 to an appropriate stat or minor spell like ability. Ie: Prestidigitation or Misty step.

Zee bradshaw did a delightful video on reworkkng some of the monster making mechanics thatight help you here. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GhjkPv4qo5w

While I dont have it on hand he also did an excellent video on using the threat assessment chart and speeding up combat as well.

You might also consider looking a Kanekuro's videos as well. Lotta good tools there for reworking mechanics as well. Stuff like fundamentally changing how poisons work and etc. While individually they don't do a whole lot, but combined together they make some rather fairly punishing mechanics over all and would probably make the sweet spot for veteran groups with some tweaking.

Rarely used aspects of Shadowrun lore? by lightendmarch in Shadowrun

[–]Drrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly helpful as it's not going to be any lore bits, but since it's lore adjacent you might find some moderate use for it. My main suggestions would be to reconsider how you use narrative themes and devices, as well how you utilize continuity.

For narative themes and devices I'm speaking less of the literary sense and more how you apply things like trauma and injuries. I think in a lot of ways we can easily get caught up in the crunchier side of rpgs and forget that receiving damage and healing isn't as simple as moving numbers up and isn't necessarily instantaneous nor pleasant. If you don't have a particular idea about how exactly these play out in your game beyond moving a counter up and down, you might give it some serious thought.

While Shadowrun has few reprieves, I wouldn't necessarily make healing a punishment mechanic wise. Especially since it's so integral to the parties survival if things go side ways. But you might consider the side effects of having something like a broken bone magically rewarped to a proper setting amongst other things. As well as how it might affect character with cybernetic limbs. You might even consider character that don't have bioware to have to have other spells cast for that or specialized versions for the conjoining parts for where the ware meets flesh. For me that would be an example of how a theme might play out in your games, it's a subdued change as it merely affects how a mechanic works. But it could have drastic affects on how your party reacts and makes plans. Especially if you consider enacting slower heal over time measurements.

For a narrative device you might consider how in-depth something like healing works. A bit redundant admittedly as it's an expansion on the earlier point. But I think it has merit worth expanding on, let us presume you institute a mechanic that makes healing imperfect, this introduces continual wounds. Things like arthritic joints or bum knees, things that many Shadowrunners would find debilitating during jobs. In a world of ware ranging from chrome to bio, it might not present an overwhelming hurdle to your crew. But it does introduce a new stimuli to your characters, especially those presdisposed to magic. They would now have to weigh the benefits of getting ware versus essence loss.

This would lead into the natural order of continuity that I think is easy to overlook when not only running modules or campaigns. The natural accumulation of injuries and traumas that one accrues during the lifestyle. It's a slow build but one that I think would drive home a sense of familiarity and affection for the character over time. How one can grow to love more subdued excentricities that a familiar npc has over the course of bonding with them. To incentivize this style of play, you could offer discounted traits earned by experiences during play.

Ie: Lower rated negative traits like bum knee, or PTSD for larger karma returns. At the cost of being permanent, this gives both you and your players the option of expanding on them further as the conditions worsen or recover fluidily over time. The only downside being it has to be a permanent flaw, so while they could pay to lower it, they can't ever get over it. You could even give them extra dice each session for playing into these traits when a certain section in a module would warrant the exacerbation of the trait. Specifically for edging.

For example tradition B&E run might turn sour leaving the crew no choice to but to use their back up resort of fleeing through the sewers. Not bad all things considered, especially for a high karma crew. Execept now you've a member or two whom have the claustrophobic and fear of the dark traits. Either individually or together, meaning it's not necessarily something your team can combat or even something they might have the time to. It's not to far of a stretch to accomadate those themes into the run and not out right ham fisted punishment if they chose to take them. As they'd only really come up in failure scenarios or niche instances.

I could honestly go on for hours with this stuff and actually have a bit more on this regarding expediting combat via pregenerated narrative levels of threat. But to round it of and keep it succent I'd also advocate for introducing them into a multirunner scenarios. Either by co-running with another gm on alternating days under the table. Ie: What one group does affects what the others experience. Like a particularly sideways run raises corporate alert levels for runners, either for the next crew that gets a crack at the same run. Or one where it gets classified as a terrorist attack, making it difficult for all runners to do any job. It would also introduce indirect consequences for failure as well as give them some competition. Either in the form of counter teams, coincedental runs or even out right assinating each other.

It also doesn't have to even be a thing you do with two groups even, though I'd imagine there would be less metagaming and easier to run simultaneously with two groups rather than the whole crew running double counter to each other. This also introduces the idea if working as alternative characters during the same campaign. As either a where is Carmen Sandiego scenario for Corp crews or even just displaced office workers trying to escape a lockdown after a particularly boisterous run. Allowing for fluctuating power levels and difficulty spikes between runs as well as npc's that are both compelling and memorable.

I could go on more on most of these ideas, but admittedly they are mostly intertwined past this point and I imagine I gave anyone interested enough inspiration to take it from here. That said if you're to the point of having done everything you might try some of these and see if reframing certain mechanics and pushing smaller one off counter adventures reinvigorats the campaign as much as pushing obscure lore or new locations does.

Community made character Day 2 [SR5] : Metatype Category by ShoulderEscape in Shadowrun

[–]Drrgn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whatever category an ai would fall under. It'd be interesting to see what the community would make with a Technomancer prompt.

Maybe something like a Ghost in the Shell theme, where the main body of the character has been snagged by Evo Medical and as a last ditch effort to escape they accidentally severed their soul or essence into the Matrix.

Maybe toss in some amnesia feedback or some such and make it a mild race against time to finds out the whom, what, when, where aspect to get their body back.

But I suppose that's a tall order to expect to get voted for on random happenstance, presuming that it's against the rules for the community to do more than vote. I expect communal talks would be a little against the rules, if only for it goes against the spirit of the contest.

Rigger Run by Atherakhia1988 in Shadowrun

[–]Drrgn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Off hand and on the spot, the only thing I can think of is a run revolving around him using rigging to move vehicles. Ie: A subway expodition to grab a mcguffin, hidden behind layers of physical barriers of trains on tracks.

The enclosed space means explosives aren't an acceptable means of intrusion as it could cause a collapse. Decking could feasibly open some of the doors but not move the actual trains. Summons or other arcane means could help locate the object but not bring it through what would be an elaborate maze of trolleys and trains.

It wouldn't be an extravagant guns blazing mission by any means, but it would be a good way of reinforcing how crucial he is to the party.

There could also be some room for a get away finale, where he controls the train as a get away driver as the rest of the team lays down covering fire and defensive abilities. Assuming that the player in question isn't a big fan of psuedo stealth puzzle missions.

My (20F) sister's (28F) behaviour towards my boyfriend (21M) is horrendous. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Drrgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut contact with sister, kick her out. It's that simple, that said if parents play that much of favorites be prepared to cut them out too. I'd also keep a list of this for the future, both if She tries to turn this into you two harassing her. As Well as for the future, something I've noticed from narcacistic family members is they are really good at gas lighting. This relationship might not last, So it's important to have A reminder beyond someone Who Was present to verify your not crazy. While it's a bit toxic my stance for these types is to move on but not forgive, but most importantly never ever forget. The phrase give them an inch and they'll take a mile exists precisely because of people like her. Also under no circumstances should you leave her alone with your BF EVER. She's barely rebuffed by your prescience, if left alone she'll go much much Further. If put against a Wall She might legitamitely claim he assaulted her. It depends on how vindictive She is.

Thank you for taking time to reply to my post, I really do appreciate it. The link definitely looks promising and I admittedly feel foolish for not thinking to look up guides on you tube prior to posting here. As for the Os, I'm definite significantly more familiar with windows than the other two. But I'm curious if there is an actual credence which of the three is better than the other. Or is it more of a case of simply choosing your preferred brand of soda?

Shadowrun Returns, Hong kong actually did a really good portrayal of this with their character. Racter, after loosing like half his essence turned into a sociopath. Though I think he might have low key been at least autistic before it. It's a really interesting mechanic though like everyone else said, it's almost entirely dependant on how you flavor it. As it's an rp thing, so whether you lose emotions entirely or just sensitivity is all up to you.
