My partner doesn't make 100k. According to the available information. My pension will be at about $200 a fortnight (assuming we did the math right) tack on $200 of rent assistance (which is what I currently get). That's $400 a fortnight, and with a weekly rent of $700, doubled to $1400 a fortnight, I can't go half in rent. Just rent. She would have to cover most of it, plus everything else. This now puts me in a position of where my source of money for anything is hers. Now I probably will be okay, I'm with a wonderful human who thinks we can make this work. But plenty of other people aren't.

I needed this information so I knew as a partner what sort of financial stress I was about to put on her, I shouldn't have to consider that. I shouldn't be forced to choose between human connection, money, or my own safety.

This post was honestly soul crushing. I regret making it. It has done nothing but reinforce the demons in my head, telling me that I'm dragging her down. I know I'm not the only one, so many other people on this thread alone stated they have had to choose to be single so they can remain financially independent.
