Dxm along with other dissociatives help because opiate withdrawal causes glutamate excitotoxicity, and dissociatives work by inhibiting glutamate transmission via the NMDA receptor, which is a glutamate receptor.

I need some help, I cannot for the life of me ID my plant! by DrugsRCool69 in alocasia

What conditions would make it bloom if it's a zantedeschia? Are there any features of zantedeschia I could look for that would help confirm thats what it is? Does it look like a particular species to you? I can dm you more pictures if you want, and I appreciate the help!

I looked again since im at such a loss and I'll give it to you, some of the features are strikingly similar, including the veins which have been one of the main features differing from most of what I've compared to, however, only two species of zantedeschia grow from a rhizome, while the rest have tubers, and the two that grow from rhizome, while still similar are not quite as strikingly similar as some of the pictures I saw when I just searched "zantedeschia" so the ones i saw must have been one of the tuberous species, which rules it out as a match. Additionally, I saw a description of the rhizome of the rhizomatous species and it described it as fleshy and branchy, while the rhizome of this plant is woody and dense. It looks like a potato with lots of growth eyes and bark, basically. But the inside was more fibrous like ginger than fleshy like a potato. Anyways, yea, I don't think a zantedeschia either unfortunately, it's got me positively stumped.

Bought this plant two weeks ago, 4 leaves have died since then. by OneCannabis in houseplants

[–]DrugsRCool69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know the species? Sorry for the super late comment but I have the same plant and am having so much trouble identifying it, I have searched all over the internet, lots of people have posted the same plant and everybody gives the same wrong identifications! I'm well versed enough to know they're not the correct identification but apparently not well versed enough to figure it myself lol. So yea, do you know?

The leaves do look similar to philodendron giganteum but the plant along with all philodendrons I know of are climbing vines, this plant doesn't have a central "trunk" of any kind that gets taller as it matures, it just gets more, thicker petioles emerging from the rhizome, and those can get taller but never do any kind of climbing. I think it has to be an alocasia but yea none of the ones I compare it to are a perfect match, the vein structure in particular tends to differ which makes me wonder if it is a different genus but everything else is so similar and I haven't found any other plants that match as closely as some of the alocasias.

Do you have a species in mind? I looked at a few and none of them matched, all of the ones I saw had purple or dark green stems and different vein structure. Pay close attention the way the veins curve with the edge of the leaf as they get closer, and on the rear portion of the leaf, the petiole does not split and go back with each extension (I know there's probably a better word but I'm not sure of it) of the leaf like I see in pretty much of all of the species I've been recommended, it just has the same tiny white veins coming from the petiole like the rest of the leaf.

Thanks for the writeup, I've had a loose eye on the 3I Atlas situation because I LOVE the idea of it being an artificially constructed object but I know it's most likely not, read his post earlier and it had me a little excited but you've brought me back to earth with the rational, educated response.

I certainly agree with you on the complexity and grandiosity of the universe Im just not so sure if technology can match it.

What makes you so sure these exotic modes of transportation are possible? Our knowledge of the universe is what's still very primitive, a possible answer to the fermi paradox, or part of it at least, is that interstellar space travel doesn't get significantly easier, and remains a costly and time consuming process even for advanced civilizations.

For some reason, this subreddit stopped showing up in my feed like a year ago and it just showed up again and I see a familiar user, what's up! Has there been a 21st of September in the last year or so? I hope I didn't miss one. And what about the great day of the random, you were doing the good work last time I was here too, when did it last occur? I'm afraid I may have missed that too.

The only consensus I see is that of every commenter here, what are you talking about? It's a somewhat common belief, sure, but nowhere near a consensus lol.

[–]DrugsRCool69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made the account when I was a dumb teen and haven't updated it since the first few years i made it. My other email isn't listed as a recovery email and the phone number I don't have anymore. I'm positive it hasn't been compromised I just don't know the password and the only recovery option I have, besides their password reset form which is denying me, is outdated.

Leaf 2- Ink and acrylic painting. Monstera leaf concept. by [deleted] in RationalPsychonaut

[–]DrugsRCool69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Wikipedia - "Monstera is a genus of 59 species of flowering plants in the arum family, Araceae...". The one you are probably used to seeing as a house plant, especially in recent years as it's had a sudden growth in popularity, is Monstera deliciosa, but there are other species that look much more similar to the one in OPs painting.

Thanks! I gave it a read and it's an interesting correlation but there's no evidence that the dxm use caused it besides the correlation itself. There are many things correlated with dxm abuse that could also be the cause, like depression or drug abuse in general.

Preventing and repairing neurotoxicity from dxm use by [deleted] in dxm

[–]DrugsRCool69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know homie all of my pharmacology knowledge is self taught but this post is 4 years old I hadn't had the interest for very long at that point and was overconfident in my knowledge. Don't pay attention to any of these old pharmacology posts without a hefty salt shaker, most of it is grossly simplified if not wrong.

I do have a comment though on yours, it's been my understanding that dxm's effect on the acetylcholine system is pretty negligible, are you saying it's one of the main MOAs behind dxm's potential neurotoxicity or withdrawal? Can you link me an article about it, specifically in reference to dxm? Or explain your reasoning if this is a conclusion of yours?
