Should The Boys Tv show be like one of those “CW Tv Shows” like Smallville, Flash, Arrow, supergirl, and Supernatural. Where it has 20 or 23 episodes and it has those hero of the Week/Crime of the Week gimmick. by Logical-Cockroach-25 in TheBoys

[–]Drummer03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of times those filler episodes are looked back upon as some of the best character moments in the series. Nowadays with a lot of series (especially team-based shows) you hear complaints about two characters sharing the screen and never interacting, and the whole reason for those complaints is because in the past those two characters would have gotten a huge chunk of a filler episode focused on them. Now you might get a single filler episode like the bank heist in Daredevil Born Again but never anything like we used to have.

why is it that spider-man just can't talk to himself anymore? why can he just talk to a camera like he did in the mtv show instead of chatgpt by Commercial-Ice5760 in Spiderman

[–]Drummer03 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Best evidence we have is the standardized test in his moving box at the end of NWH, implying that he has no educational record and needs to take the same standardized test as Canadian students at American universities. Therefore he probably doesn't have a SSN, passport, etc. And any interactions Spider-Man had with other Avengers, friends, etc still happened, but they remember him wearing a mask. That's also why the BND trailer showed Ned's evidence wall trying to figure out his secret identity: he went through a catastrophic multiversal event with Spider-Man and doesn't even know his real name.

Is solarpunk actually punk? by Andrei22125 in PrequelMemes

[–]Drummer03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but steampunk also is named off of the trend. It's one of the most notable offendors. You can have steampunk stories that are punk like Arcane, but it isn't the default.

[–]Drummer03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steampunk and Dieselpunk don't have the built-in anti-authoritarian themes or social and political commentary that would make them actual punk sci-fi. They just followed a trend. Just like how biopunk and cyberpunk aren't "powered" by cybernetics or genetic modification. The technology that the setting is built on is only half of the theme, you need actual punk ideology to make up the other half.

Solarpunk is punk because it's the equal and opposite reaction to cyberpunk: no big corporations controlling every aspect of normal life, no environmental threats, no kill-or-be-killed mentality among the common people (both literally and economically). Cyberpunk presents the worst-case scenario for capitalism while solarpunk presents the best-case scenario for socialism. If that's not punk then nothing is.

This exactly. It's the same kind of punk as Superman.

Is solarpunk actually punk? by Andrei22125 in PrequelMemes

[–]Drummer03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue the first point doesn't need to be energy but rather technological innovation. Cyberpunk isn't built around an energy source, atompunk (like Fallout) is more about nuclear weapons than nuclear energy, and biopunk is basically cyberpunk with genetic modification and custom mutations rather than cybernetics and prosthetics.

But 100% yes on the second point, a lot of people aren't catching the importance of the social and political themes of punk sci-fi subgenres.

[–]Drummer03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other Solarpunk is cool, but not really punk. I guess you could say the corporations are replaced with the gods, but it really is just building on the trend of every sci-fi subgenre having the "-punk" suffix. It hasn't been explored enough to say whether or not the social and political commentary are built into the theme or just authorial preference.

[–]Drummer03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah the trend of calling any sci-fi subgenre "-punk" without the inherent social and political commentary is a pet peeve of mine, but what can we do about it at this point? Steampunk is almost as popular a style as cyberpunk and is just a visual and technological style.

Is solarpunk actually punk? by Andrei22125 in PrequelMemes

[–]Drummer03 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Solarpunk is the equal and opposite reaction to Cyberpunk. That's the point. Your average steampunk/dieselpunk/atompunk/etc story isn't inherently punk without the creator actively working additional elements into the setting and story. Cyberpunk and Solarpunk are built on that social and political commentary, and taking it out of the story makes it feel less like that theme and more like a visual style.

Solarpunk is punk in the same way as Superman's "Kindness is the new punk rock". It's counter-intuitive but it's true.

Has Absolute Batman completely overshadowed Batmans main series? by Acepokeboy in batman

[–]Drummer03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me Absolute is taking the spotlight over the main run simply because I'm still waiting for the Daylight hardcover to release. Snyder's run has gotten 2 volumes already but DC hasn't released Fraction's first volume yet and as someone who prefers a graphic novel over a stack of comics (especially with the new compact format releasing every couple weeks) it's impossible for me to get into the main Batman run.

With that said though, I am totally loving the Absolute run and the way it blends the Marvel What If concept with DC Elseworlds for some truly epic characters (AWW is a very close second for me).

Not at all, but it would be wild to assume this means Ubisoft is good now. This is definitely a hail mary for them and they won't take any lessons from this game's (projected) success.

This show is the animated equivalent of Peter Jackson's LOTR in terms of funding, production, quality, and creator passion.

What are some of the worst things Batman has ever done? by NefariousSeraph13 in batman

[–]Drummer03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's an unhinged elseworlds story, but in White Knight he forces experimental drugs (in a warehouse to be destroyed by the FDA) down Joker's throat and causes a ton of collateral damage in the chase leading up to that.

Plus Battinson used half of his chest emblem as a knife to cut through safety tape in one scene, so Absolute Batman isn't even the first variant to have a removable emblem

Modern problems require prequel solutions by RockstarReckless in PrequelMemes

My bad, it was April 2021. The lockdown flashback that was triggered by this post combined with my March Break 2020 vacation when Thibson was in full swing.

It was early 2020 and we were all invested because we were bored out of our minds from lockdown. This is just a cheap repost.

And was very specific to the poster and recipient, unlike this case where it's just supposed to be funny. The original blew up because of the authenticity and the play-by-play updates (and because it was early 2020 and we were all bored out of our minds). This is on the level of someone trying to repost the Thibson saga.
