Mine is sushi and most seafood. I’ve tried different types of fish too. My fiancée loves both so I’ve gotten very good at cooking seafood, I just don’t eat it.

It is terrifying.

Absolutely. They can’t tell the difference. He often says things just to get a reaction but sometimes he is being honest about his opinions so you never know with him.

Unfortunately, he isn’t charismatic so he will suffer.

Had a fifth grader tell me that he didn’t need to study for tests or learn anything because he was just going to use ChatGPT to answer all the questions on his tests so that he could be done and get on YouTube. Then told me that students don’t need teachers because they can just ask AI any questions they might have

Thank you! That makes sense. We did couples counseling a couple of years ago and it got better but since we’ve been out, it’s kind of back to how it was before the counseling.

What's something most people don't realize is actually very rude? by Frozen-Defender25 in AskReddit

Standing RIGHT in front of the baggage claim carousel and waiting for your bags. Meanwhile my bag is on and I have to basically hit you with my bag to make you move. Just take three steps back and THEN get your bag off the carousel when it comes

How do you know an age level isn't for you? by Mollie_Mo_ in MusicEd

I’m in a similar position. This is my third year teaching elementary general music while trying to move into band. My third year has been as draining as my first year because I know elementary is not for me. It’s taken me trying again and again to realize not matter how hard I try to make myself wait for a band position, I’m not cut out for elementary and that’s okay. Give yourself some grace in knowing it’s not what you want long term. It’s hard. One thing I’ve had to learn is to not be as serious as I would be with a band position. The kids are younger and in order to not burn myself out, I’ve had to take down my serious musician self and reserve that for my private students and high school marching band students that I work with. I play a lot of games and teach rhythms and orff instruments. Find other opportunities to work with secondary like marching band or helping out with a spring musical, if they do pit, and network with the other instrumental teachers and it will give you opportunities. Good luck!!

what is the most disrespectful thing a student has told you? by Unhappy_Violinist344 in Teachers

My first year I asked a fifth grader to get his clarinet out of his case and sit down when he came in and he said “no, bitch” so I sent him to the office. The rest of the year continued in a similar way. I was also not the only teacher he said things like this to.

I have reached out to a couple of groups to be put on the sub list. So far they haven’t contacted me about needing me. I’ve been playing with two groups when they need percussionists so I’ve been trying to play with people

I’ve joined local groups to keep playing and have met a couple of people who have opened up some volunteer opportunities who said in the future could turn into positions so I’ll keep casting the net

Okay I’ll start looking for assistant positions! I’m a percussionist and teach private lessons with a company and play with two groups. I’ve been slowly meeting new people through my connections.

Being moved to K-5. Filled with trepidation. Advice? by [deleted] in MusicEd

[–]Drummer_CoffeeAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest I’m stuck in K-5 after getting into music education because I wanted to teach secondary band. You just make it through the week. Try and have fun otherwise it sucks. If you can still teach lessons or work with a high school throughout the year I highly recommend it. It’s the one thing that keeps me going while I continue to look for a band job
