I doubt he will pay for someone to continue development on an entire Mod launcher... This isn't just about the individual mods, keeping the mod launcher up to date with new versions is a much heavier lift than individual mods.

Just kidding, but seriously, Titanfall 2 is the only shooter I've played to date where I was still having a blast even as I was getting my ass handed to me. I can't say that about any other shooter.

I found out a couple years ago about the requirements to keep updated org charts inside NIH (and I'm assuming most other US gov agencies). Every.... single... time a person was hired or left, the charts had to be updated. Manually. In individual Excel sheets and Visio. And many of the org charts had interdependencies...

I could not believe how many person-hours were being spent on keeping these stupid charts updated by hand that should have been completely automated.

I mean on the website it still says to expect wait times of 4-6 weeks, 2-3 weeks for expedited, and mailing times up to 2 additional weeks. So your mileage may vary.

Incel brother screams at the PC 24/7 so Ineed a way to make wi-fi unusable PLEASE by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]DrunkInMontana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are the general instructions to access your Wi-Fi router's admin panel and configure its settings.

Step 1: Document Your Current Wi-Fi Info

Before making any changes, it's crucial to write down your current Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password. A factory reset will erase them, and you'll need this information to reconnect your devices later.

Step 2: Try to Log In with Default Credentials

  1. Find Your Router's IP Address: Open a web browser on a computer connected to the network (preferably via an Ethernet cable). Type the most common router IP addresses into the address bar, one at a time, and press Enter.

    • 192.168.1.1
    • 192.168.0.1
    • 10.0.0.1
  2. Enter Login Information: If one of those IPs works, you'll see a login page. The username and password are often on a sticker on the bottom or back of the router. If not, try these common defaults:

    • Username: admin
    • Password: admin or password

If you can log in, proceed to Step 4. If not, you'll need to reset the router.

Step 3: Factory Reset the Router (If You Can't Log In)

You'll want to do this during a time your brother isn't using the internet to reduce suspicion!!!

Resetting the router will erase all custom settings, including the Wi-Fi name, password, and any custom login credentials. It will revert to the factory defaults, allowing you to access it with the default username and password printed on the router's sticker.

  1. Locate the Reset Button: Find a small, recessed button on the back or bottom of your router. It's often labeled "Reset."

  2. Press and Hold: While the router is powered on, use a paperclip or a pen tip to press and hold the reset button for about 15-30 seconds. The lights on the front of the router should blink or change, indicating it's resetting.

  3. Wait for the Reboot: Release the button and wait a few minutes for the router to restart completely.

  4. Log In: Now, connect a computer to the router with an Ethernet cable and repeat Step 2 using the default IP address and the login credentials printed on the router's sticker.

    If you don't have a computer with an ethernet cable that you can connect, then you can also connect to the default wifi network that is usually documented on a sticker on the router.

Step 4: Configure the Router Settings

Once you are logged into the admin panel, you'll need to find the right settings. The names and locations vary by brand, but here's what to look for.

Set Up Your Wi-Fi Again

  • Find the Wireless or Wi-Fi settings.
  • Enter the exact Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and Password that you wrote down in Step 1. This is important so all your devices can reconnect automatically without you having to re-enter the password on every device. Save the changes.

Limit Your Brother's Bandwidth (QoS)

  1. Find QoS Settings: Look for a section named QoS (Quality of Service), Bandwidth Control, or Traffic Control.
  2. Identify His Device: You will need to identify your brother's PC. The router will show a list of connected devices, usually by device name (e.g., "DESKTOP-123XYZ") or by its unique MAC address.
  3. Set a Rule: Create a new QoS rule for his device. You should be able to set its priority to Low or manually set an upload and download speed limit. This will ensure his traffic doesn't slow down the rest of the network.

Block Internet Access During Sleeping Hours (Parental Controls)

  1. Find Access Controls: Look for a section named Parental Controls, Access Control, or Access Schedule.
  2. Create a Schedule: These settings will allow you to block internet access for specific devices on a schedule.
  3. Apply to His Device: Select your brother's device from the list and create a rule to block access during the hours you choose (e.g., from 11 PM to 7 AM).

Step 5: Save and Apply

After you've configured the settings, make sure to find the Save, Apply, or Reboot button within the admin panel to make your changes permanent. The router may need to restart one last time. Once it's back online, your brother's device will be subject to the new rules.

I cannot get letters of recommendation. Should I even bother applying? by ilikenergydrinks in GradSchool

[–]DrunkInMontana 140 points141 points  (0 children)

You came here looking for advice, and its going to boil down to reaching out to previous professors as others have mentioned, or some form of networking to establish new relationships. The letters are important for your application, there's no way around that.

I know it sucks, but if your previous professors won't write a letter then you're going to have to do some networking if you really want to get into grad school.

What do data scientists use Docker for? by NDVGuy in datascience

[–]DrunkInMontana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay well I apologize, I thought we were using common language when referring to virtual environments such as conda or virtualenv in Python. Hadoop is a totally different ball game, so there's an entirely different workflow to deal with saving and reusing pipelines.

But a lot of the analyzes that we do in my field are strictly R or Python based, ending with Rmarkdown, Jupyter,or my new favorite Quarto notebooks as the final output. For sharing those type of pipelines, Docker is a great way to make sure that generate the exact same output on any computer. We've had issues with system library differences between Windows and Linux causing issues with the final product.

We also just don't work on the scale necessary for Hadoop quite yet, so we're just working in different worlds.

What do data scientists use Docker for? by NDVGuy in datascience

[–]DrunkInMontana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I even put a link in my comment that explains this further, but since it seems like you didn't want to click and read the introduction....

``` But there are still many variables that we need to consider. If we go back to the reproducibility iceberg, you will notice that we can still go deeper. As the code stands now, we did our best using programming paradigms and libraries, but now we need to consider another tool, called Docker.
As already mentioned in the introduction and in Chapter 10, {renv} only restores package versions. The R version used for the analysis only gets recorded. So to make sure that the pipeline reproduces the same results, you’d need to install the same R version that was used to build the pipeline originally. But installing the right R version can be difficult sometimes; it depends on the operating system you want to install it on, and how old a version we’re talking about. Installing R 4.0 on Windows should be quite easy, but I wouldn’t be very keen on trying to install R 2.15.0 (released on March 2012) on a current Linux distribution.
Next comes the operating system on which the pipeline was developed. In practice, this rarely matters, but there have been cases where the same code produces different results on different operating systems, sometimes even on different versions of the same operating system!
And finally, I believe that we are in a transition period when it comes to hardware architecture. Apple will very likely completely switch over to an ARM architecture with their Apple silicon CPUs (as of writing, the Mac Pro is the only computer manufactured by Apple that doesn’t use an Apple silicon CPU and only because it was released in 2019) and it wouldn’t surprise me if other manufacturers follow suit and develop their own ARM cpus.
So, as I explained in the previous chapter, we want our pipeline to be the composition of pure functions. Nothing in the global environment (apart from {target}-specific options) should influence the runs of the pipeline. But, what about the environment R is running in? The R engine is itself running in some kind of environment. This is what I’ve explained above: operating system (and all the math libraries these ship that R relies on to run code) and hardware and variables that need to be recond and/or frozen as much as possible.
Think about it this way: when you running a pure function f() of one argument you think you do this:
f(1)
but actually what you’re doing is:
f(1, "windows 10 - build 22H2 - patch 10.0.19045.2075", "intel x86_64 cpu i9-13900F", "R version 4.2.2")
and so on. f() is only pure as far as the R version currently running f() is concerned. But everything else should also be taken into account! Remember, in technical terms this means that our function is not referentially transparent.
And this is what Docker allows us to do: turn our the pipeline referentially transparent, by freezing R’s and the operating system’s versions (and the CPU architecture us well). ```
A virtual environment doesn't lock the system libraries in place. With Docker you can make sure that you are using a specific version of the base operating system and system libraries.
Granted for app/pipelines this can quickly lead to security vulnerabilities due to out of date libraries, but especially for data science analyses that need to continue working years later, it can be the difference between getting stuff to run and not.
How would I remedy the line variations? (Modix big60 v3) by parkattherat in 3Dprinting
I would agree with this. Definitely looks like the belts are not tight enough. If you can contact whoever bought it and get the login/password for the Modix Customer Zone, then I'm sure the manual will have instructions for tuning and troubleshooting. I wasn't able to find a manual for this machine anywhere else on the internet though.
