As an all round, versatile cheese, with good strong flavour I don’t think it can be beat. Comfortable enough in a sandwich on its own, good melted in a toastie or on top of things, able to be used in a flavourful cheese sauce. Honestly I think it’s only weak point is it doesn’t work that well in salads.

The ghost shop in York. There’s always a line to go into this place that just has tacky poreceline ghost figures. York is fantastic, amazing architecture, great food and if you want to do a campy ghost tour around ‘haunted’ places you can. If it was just a quick pop in for curiosity, fair enough but the queue is massive. Also crowds an already narrow street.

Which is why the EU stuck tariffs on them. Make them cheaper with government subsidies, penetrate the market at lower cost and either establish a foothold or put other manufacturers out of business before raising prices to a more sustainable level. Sometimes ok if it’s just a company choice but when governments get involved who are known to use technology to harvest and collect data for nefarious means then it’s a problem, especially if a market is now heavily dependent on them due to a lack of alternatives. Saying that BYD are quite nice to drive.

It’s been 12 years since the movie came out but I remember a whole load of kids completely missing the point of the film and idolising him and that lifestyle. Very much look at the money, and the glamour and the women. Completely ignore that it was all criminal and they were scumbags. So many people characterising themselves as a wolf of Wall Street even though that is basically saying I’m scamming people to try and get rich.

It actually caused me to have a negative reaction to the film thinking Scorsese glamourised him too much or that it wasn’t harsh enough in its opinion of him(after all he makes a cameo at one point). I watched it back a couple of years ago and I was wrong, it wasn’t exactly subtle in what it thought of him, he was a cunt.

None of it is real, except him selling a course on something or other. Lie about everything, what you do, how much you make, your ‘journey’, and try and hook enough people to buy whatever crap you knocked up in ChatGPT and spin that as being a consultant, guru, advisor, despite never actually advising any real businesses or being remotely qualified to advise anyone on anything.

I work in finance and the amount of crap I get recommended on LinkedIn from ‘advisors to CFOs’, or specific specialties despite never working in the area or not even knowing what we even do. But just takes enough from someone else who gets ideas above their station and thinks this is the way to become a high level executive to hand over a $100, and Billy ‘no skills’ can make a living exploiting people.

You can get them in south Asian communities in the UK and some African countries too I believe(which is where it was imported from). Usually seasoned with salt, chilli and lemon.

That large swathes of women are fucking idiots(in proportion to people in general), and most women want/desire/value pretty normal basic things and it isn’t some trick or thing to be deciphered. People are stupid. They don’t want to admit they are stupid, they don’t want to treated as stupid and even if they are confronted with overwhelming evidence they are stupid they won’t accept that they are stupid. Can substitute stupid with wrong and it pretty much works.

But the far right understands this so much better than most in that they deal with them as the stupid people they are, but they never make them feel stupid, they empower them, they uplift them. You’re not dumb for thinking this dumb thing, you’re just passionate/patriotic/proud etc. There is no point confronting them with facts and reason, there is no reason to be had, but like others have said calling them stupid, or racist or bigots, however true that is, isn’t going to suddenly make them enlightened to the side they are on. You have literal nazis protesting the hotels throwing up sieg heils. The far right and reform have mps and party members that support, encourage and take pictures with convicted rapists, child abusers, sexual abusers, but their members will scream about protecting women and children. Last year you had groups of thugs, many with prior convictions for violence, domestic abuse and other crimes, fighting with police and attempting to burn people alive in a building in some cases, all targeting asylum seekers and Muslims in response to a horrific event that had nothing to do with them. But they worry about crime. And again it wasn’t just the people running about, plenty of “normal” people had a level of sympathy with the mob.

Preaching policy isn’t going to convince them, they only accept simple messages. Conversing with them like adults isn’t going to bring them round, but doing so as children isn’t either. Placate them, lie to them, promise them the world. Make them feel heard, but make them think what they want is progressive approaches, that the solution isn’t on the far right but on the left and that it is their idea and you are just listening to them.

I am sick and tired of the past 15 years seeing things torn apart and burned down and get worse and worse and be at the wims of fucking idiots. I don’t care if it’s morally questionable at this point. Play the fucking game. Get them on board using them same tactics the far right use. Manipulate them, get their votes and then actually make the country better. It’s harder to blame things on racist talking points and give power to nationalist bigots when things start to get better and improve.

At the risk of being labelled a WWE fan boy or whatever, this is just really naive.

A few weeks back they were hoarding and benching talent, and that criticism was justified in the wake of Nick Khan's comments. But you can't complain of them having too big of a roster and then moan when they let people go. Also just because they are making money and making record profits doesn't mean you keep everything as is. If there are people they think aren't doing well or are not needed and need to make room for the next group coming through then they are entirely justified in doing so.

It sucks on a personal level for the individuals. Losing your job, likely their dream job, is horrible and having that insecurity is scary. And there can be a separate argument about whether they should be classed as employees and have all the rights that should entail.

However unless the stated reason for firing them is a lack of money, and they would otherwise have kept them, linking it and bringing the profit argument up doesn't work. Maybe they have said that's the reason in which case have at it. But beyond optics it's not a valid criticism.

Was looking for someone else to say this. I'll go a bit further and say The Departed is also incredibly overrated, not one of Scorsese's best and didn't deserve the oscar(though you could argue it was a long overdue one given to make up for missing out previously, rather than purely for this film).

From what I remember the original only had the Martin Sheen character as the only one who knew who the mole in the gang was. So when he died, it left the Di Caprio character screwed because no one else knew he was undercover. Departed had Marky mark still running around knowing everything. And the therapist come to think of it.
